The Nevada secretary of states office on Friday reported there are 1,464,819 active registered voters statewide who are eligible to participate in the Nov. 8 general election.

CARSON CITY The Nevada secretary of states office on Friday reported there are 1,464,819 active registered voters statewide who are eligible to participate in the Nov. 8 general election.

There are 577,679 Democrats, 488,861 Republicans and 304,528 nonpartisans. The rest are minor- party registered voters.

Democrats represent 39.4 percent of the total active registered voters, Republicans 33.4 percent and nonpartisans 20.8 percent.

The numbers were released one day before early voting for the general election begins in Nevada.

The total number of active registered voters is up by 251,626, an increase of 21 percent, compared to the 2014 general election close-of-registration figures.

In the last presidential election in 2012, there were 1,257,621 active registered voters, with 526,986 Democrats and 436,799 Republicans. President Barack Obama won Nevada in 2012.

Active Democratic voters in 2012 were 41.9 percent compared to 39.4 percent this year; Republicans accounted for 34.7 percent in 2012 and 33.4 percent in 2016. The biggest gain over the four years was in nonpartisan voters, from 17.4 percent in 2012 to 20.8 percent this year.

I have been thinking about the Democratic Party and whether or not its members are more numerous than the opposing faction.

Evidence to suggest this is the case:

This suggests that the partisan lean the American electorate is about D+4. I believe that it might be closer to D+5 now for various reasons and the fact that 2012 was the mean result. This can get a little bit fuzzy because of independents.

If we look at opinion polling, Gallup has collated party affiliation polls back to 2004. The most recent poll at the time of writing gives a D+11 advantage. Looking just at the net Republican/Democrat advantage, ignoring Independents, we can create the graph below â with positive percentages representing a Democrat lead, and negative percentages representing a Republican lead.

In Texas, voters dont register by party affiliation like many other states, making it unclear exactly how many Republican or Democratic voters are in the state.

But about one-third of the 1.3 million new voters since November 2018 come from three counties: Harris, Travis and Bexar all deeply bluesince 2016.

The balance of party identification among registered voters has remained fairly stable over the past quarter century. Still, there have been modest fluctuations: The new analysis, based on combined telephone surveys from 2018 and 2019, finds that the Democratic Partys advantage in party identification has narrowed since 2017.

Overall, 34% of registered voters identify as independent, compared with 33% who identify as Democrats and 29% who identify as Republicans. The share of registered voters who identify with the Republican Party is up 3 percentage points, from 26% in 2017, while there has been no change in the share who identify as Democrats. The share of voters who identify as independents is 3 points lower than it was in 2017.

When independents and those who dont align with either major party are included, 49% of all registered voters say they either identify with or lean toward the Democratic Party; slightly fewer say they identify with or lean toward the GOP. In 2017, the Democratic Party enjoyed a wider 8-point advantage in leaned party identification .

Democrats have held the edge in party identification among registered voters since 2004. The current balance of leaned party identification is similar to where it stood in 2016 when 48% of voters identified as Democrats or leaned Democratic and 44% identified with or leaned toward the GOP and in 2012 . Thirty percent of young Americans believe that history will judge Donald Trump as the worst president ever. Overall, 26% give the 45th president positive marks , while 54% give Trump negative marks ; 11% believe he will go down as an average president.

Twenty-two percent of young Americans surveyed agree with the statement, I want Donald Trump to play a key role in the future of Republican politics, 58% disagreed, and 19% neither agreed nor disagreed. Among young Republicans, 56% agreed while 22% disagreed, and 21% were neutral. Only 61% of those who voted for Trump in the 2020 general indicated their desire for him to remain active in the GOP.

If they had to choose, 42% of young Republicans consider themselves supporters of the Republican party, and not Donald Trump. A quarter indicated they are Trump supporters first, 24% said they support both.

Voter Registration Indicates Growing Democratic Majority In Maine

Democrats currently have 386,786 registered voters and Republicans have 295,122. Though both numbers are expected to change the closer we draw to the 2020 election.

The Maine Secretary of States Office has compiled data that show; enrollments are the highest since at least 1990, the first year with available statistics, the Portland Press Herald reported.

The number of unenrolled voters in the state declined to 339,782. There were more than 367,000 unenrolled voters in the state in 2014, after which the figure began to decline.

The secretary of states office compiled the data after the July 14 primary. Maine is headed into a very competitive general election cycle in which the states electoral votes, a U.S. Senate race and a U.S. House of Representatives race are all under close watch.

Jim Melcher, political science professor at the University of Maine Farmington, credits the boost to the recent primaries since March. He mentions that the gains may simply be an artifact of primary voters who wanted to participate. Maine does not allow unenrolled voters to vote in primary elections.

Republicans also saw some gains since March, largely fueled by the July primaries in the 2nd Congressional District.

This measures how strongly a state leans Republican or Democratic compared to the entire nation. Following each election, this index is updated to provide the most accurate results.

CPVIs is calculated by taking a look at the average Democratic or Republican share of the last two presidential elections compared to the national average. Results of the CPVI are broken down by congressional district and by state. By using this data, you can quickly determine which states are more Republican or more Democratic.

Based on the latest CPVI data, Wyoming is the most Republican state in the nation. Following behind is Oklahoma, then Utah taking third place.
