Mississippi Advances Bill Against Covid Vaccine Mandates

JACKSON, Miss. Anyone in Mississippi could cite a sincerely held religious objection to avoid a public or private employers COVID-19 vaccination mandate, under a bill that advanced Wednesday at the state Capitol.
COVID-19 vaccine mandates have not been widespread in Mississippi, but Republican Sen. Brice Wiggins of Pascagoula, said President Joe Bidens attempt to set a mandate for federal contractors could have caused big problems for Mississippis largest private employer, Ingalls Shipbuilding. Wiggins said he is proudly vaccinated but believes getting the vaccine should be a personal choice.
To me, this is about government overreach, Wiggins said.
The spectators galleries were packed Wednesday, and people applauded as some senators denounced vaccine mandates.
Mississippi has one of the lowest COVID-19 vaccination rates in the United States. About 51% of eligible residents in the state have received at least two doses, according to a Mayo Clinic vaccine tracker. The national rate is 65.1%.
More than 12,000 Mississippi residents have died of COVID-19 since the pandemic began two years ago, according to the state Health Department.
The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Mississippi had 408 deaths per 100,000 residents, as of Sunday. That compared to the U.S. rate of 288 deaths per 100,000 residents.

Don Shaw and Tom Dzikowicz started Aardvark Pest Control in March 1976. Four months later, Dave Laughlin joined the business and became the third owner. Dzikowicz left the business in 2001.

Question: What does Aardvark offer?
D.L.: We do residential and commercial pest control, which includes remedying problems and also preventing them.

D.S.: Safety.
D.L.: Safety. We have training that’s put on by the Michigan Pest Management Association and monitored by the Michigan Department of Agriculture. We have to renew our license every three years, and we do that by training. That’s how we keep up to date on all the techniques and safety measures.
Question: What types of pests do you handle?
D.S.: Wood-destroying insects, ants, roaches, mice, spiders and bed bugs.
Question: How do you get rid of the pests?
D.S.: We have traps, baits and liquid residuals.
