Driving The Used 2016 Jeep Patriot

2016 Jeep Patriot High Altitude Review

Jeeps have a long history of favoring off-road capability over on-road comfort. Most models of the Patriot, though, dont stand out in either setting. Yes, you can get a Patriot that is Trail-Rated to slog through mud, snow and up to 19 inches of water, but to do so you must option up to the Freedom Drive II package. On the asphalt where most Patriots will roam, Jeeps least expensive SUV is simply outclassed by newer rivals that offer better performance, handling, ride quality and fuel economy. Neither of the Patriots available 4-cylinder engines feels very strong, and the CVT transmission does more for fuel economy than it does for performance, although the optional 6-speed automatic improves the latter. Highway ride and handling are okay, as long as you dont compare the Patriot to a more refined small SUV of which there are plenty.

Kbb Vehicle Review And Rating Methodology

Our Expert Ratings come from hours of both driving and number crunching to make sure that you choose the best car for you. We comprehensively experience and analyze every new SUV, car, truck, or minivan for sale in the U.S. and compare it to its competitors. When all that dust settles, we have our ratings.

We require new ratings every time an all-new vehicle or a new generation of an existing vehicle comes out. Additionally, we reassess those ratings when a new-generation vehicle receives a mid-cycle refresh basically, sprucing up a car in the middle of its product cycle with a minor facelift, often with updates to features and technology.

Rather than pulling random numbers out of the air or off some meaningless checklist, KBBs editors rank a vehicle to where it belongs in its class. Before any car earns its KBB rating, it must prove itself to be better than the other cars its competing against as it tries to get you to spend your money buying or leasing.

Our editors drive and live with a given vehicle. We ask all the right questions about the interior, the exterior, the engine and powertrain, the ride and handling, the features, the comfort, and of course, about the price. Does it serve the purpose for which it was built?

We take each vehicle we test through the mundane parking, lane-changing, backing up, cargo space and loading as well as the essential acceleration, braking, handling, interior quiet and comfort, build quality, materials quality, reliability.

Used 2016 Jeep Patriot Pricing

2015 Jeep Patriot for Sale in Albany, NY

The 2016 Jeep Patriot has an alluring Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price just over $18,000, making it the least expensive new SUV, but youll have to forgo such comforts as power windows and air conditioning. Better-equipped versions run in the $20,000 range, and a Latitude model with the High Altitude package can bump $30,000. At these prices, most Patriot models still undercut the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Ford Escape and Subaru Forester, but those rivals are newer and generally more appealing. Still, theres no denying that the Patriot is an inexpensive SUV to buy and own, and its just coming off a win for the Kelley Blue Book 5-Year Cost to Own Award in the Compact SUV/Crossover category. Be sure to check the KBB.com Fair Purchase Price to see what others in your area are paying for their new Jeep Patriot. Long-term residual value is another aspect in which the Patriot lags competitors.

Used 2016 Jeep Patriot High Altitude Edition 4dr Suv 4wd Consumer Reviews

4 years later, still love my Jeep Patriot. I am sorry they are not making any more. It really is a good little care. Very comfortable and dependable. Ok, so it doesn’t look like everyone elses car, but that is part of the charm. Guess it doesn’t matter if I give a good review since they have gone the way of the Dodo bird. So sad.

I am ecstatic about my Jeep Patriot. It handles great, feels comfortable. I can’t say enough about it. The fuel economy says its 24-26, but I’m getting 27-29 in the High Rocky Mountains of CO, and live at 9000 ft elevation. The steering is a little tight at first until you get used to it’s touchiness. After 3 weeks, I have adjusted or it’s gotten better. The only problem I have with it so far is the sunroof leaks when I’m in the high pressure car wash. Water splashes me in the head and face. I took it in for service and they are fixing this soon. I also opted for the lifetime warranty, because I intend to keep this Jeep for life. It’s my 3rd Jeep, and I couldn’t be happier. I thought I’d be sacrificing power and durability for better gas mileage over the Jeep Rubicon, but I was completely wrong. I have not sacrificed anything but the removable top and I have benefitted way beyond my expectations. The ride is smooth and quiet. They had me at heated seats and sunroof.
