Republican National Convention 2024

Republican presidential nomination in 2024 is âTrumpâs for the takingâ

This page will provide an overview of the 2024 Republican National Convention. The national nominating convention is the formal ceremony during which the party officially selects its nominee and adopts a party platform. The delegates are individuals chosen to represent their state or territory at the convention.

For context, this page provides the following information:

What About The Democrats

Democratic President Joe Biden has said he plans to seek a second term in 2024, so there’s unlikely to be a competitive primary process among the Democrats. But even if there were, it’s unclear whether Iowa Democrats will continue to hold their traditional first-in-the-nation caucuses in 2024 and beyond.

The Democratic National Committee has spent months weighing the presidential nominating calendar, indicating it plans to impose changes. Iowa is a primarily white, agricultural state that has trended farther to the right in recent years. National Democrats say they want to launch the presidential nominating process in a state that is more broadly representative of the party’s base. The DNC’s Rules and Bylaws Committee has said it will make a decision after the midterms.

Table Of State Territorial And Federal Results

This table shows the partisan results of president, congressional, gubernatorial, and state legislative races held in each state and territory in 2022. Note that not all states and territories hold gubernatorial, state legislative, and Senate elections in 2022. The five territories and Washington, D.C., do not elect members of the Senate, and the territories do not take part in presidential elections instead, they each elect one non-voting member of the House. Nebraska’s unicamerallegislature and the governorship and legislature of American Samoa are elected on a non-partisan basis, and political party affiliation is not listed.

What To Monitor: Polling Data

Polling data is fluid and changes over the course of an election period. In the early stages like now , candidates with the most name recognition tend to poll the strongest. Thats why on the Democratic side former VP Joe Biden and 2016 candidate Bernie Sanders were early polling front-runners.

As lower tier candidates who have difficulty fund-raising drop out of the race, and TV debates start crystallizing voter opinion, the numbers begin to consolidate around one-to-two front-runners heading into the primaries.

For simplicity purposes, monitor two well-respected polling aggregators:

Haley, the former governor of South Carolina, headlined an event for the Republican Party of Iowa in suburban Des Moines in June 2021. She also attended a slew of other events on behalf of local party operations and Iowa elected officials.

At a June 2022 event in Sioux Center, Haley said she will run for president in 2024 if theres a place for me.”

What I’ve always said is, I love this country, she told reporters. I had the pleasure of serving the state that raised me and defending the country I love so much. And if it looks like there’s a place for me next year, I’ve never lost a race. I’m not going to start now. I’ll put 1,000% in and I’ll finish it. If there’s not a place for me, I will fight for this country until my last breath.

South Dakota Gov Kristi Noem

Noem is among the potential 2024 Republican presidential candidates whove been overshadowed recently by other top contenders, but shes back in the news over the border. Though Noems not a border state governor, she announced last week that shes sending up to 50 South Dakota National Guard members to Texas to secure the border at the request of Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott.

The tab is being picked up by an out-of-state megadonor whos also given to Trump and the NRA, according to The Washington Post. Its unclear if the arrangement is legal, experts who spoke to The New York Times said, and Gov. Asa Hutchinson, R-Ark., said the move sets a bad precedent.

Trump Is Actively Plotting To Steal The Midterm Elections

Rolling Stone,

If you were actively under investigation for attempted murder, a thing youd probably want to avoid in the meantime would be going out and trying to murder someone else. Most people understand, without needing it to be explained to them, why this would be a bad idea. And then theres Donald Trump. He hasnt been implicated in any murders nor is he currently trying to kill anyone . He is, however, said to be actively plotting to steal the midterm elections, and the presidential one after that which seems pretty wild given that hes reportedly under criminal investigation for attempting to steal an election just two years ago.

Rolling Stonereports that in recent months, Trump has convened a series of in-person meetings and conference calls to discuss laying the groundwork to challenge the 2022 midterm election results, according to four people familiar with the matter. But hey, you might be saying, whats wrong with challenging election results if you have a legitimate reason to do so? And the answer is nothing, except that in this case, the ex-president has a well-documented history of challenging results simply because he doesnt like them, and basing his case on total lies.

And, of course, Trump isnt just plotting to undermine democracy in 2022.

Though were still more than 1,300 days away from the 2024 presidential election, potential candidates are already making stops in early caucus and primary states and working behind the scenes to prepare for a possible run.

Late last month, C-SPAN kicked off its Road to the White House coverage with a speech by former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Iowa, and former Vice President Mike Pence is scheduled to give the keynote at a dinner for a social conservative group in South Carolina on April 29.

Us Sen Tom Cotton Of Arkansas

Cotton has been raising Iowa eyebrows since 2016 when he stopped to meet with the Iowa delegation at that year’s Republican National Convention. The senator has been a regular visitor since, making appearances on behalf of elected officials like U.S. Sens. Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst.

In July of this year, he completed his seventh visit to Iowa since 2020. He attended events in support of 3rd Congressional District candidate Zach Nunn, Grassley, Ankeny-area legislative candidates and the Story County Republican Party.

I think, obviously, Iowa and New Hampshire as the first in the nation caucus and first in the nation primary play a huge role for any person running for president, he told reporters. Maybe one day there will be a Republican nominee who doesn’t win in Iowa or win in New Hampshire, but I wouldn’t want to be the person that stakes a campaign on that.

Former President Donald Trump

Trump told Fox News host Sean Hannity that he made up his mind about whether hell run for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination again, but he didnt say what the answer is, keeping the 2024 field open, for now.

The former president held his first post-White House rally in Ohio on June 26 the first since his inflammatory Jan. 6 Save America rally that preceded the failed insurrection attempt at the U.S. Capitol by his supporters. Trump called it the first rally of the 2022 election, but no cable news network carried it live, not even Fox News.

The rally came in the middle of a busy few days in June for Trump. Trumps personal attorney Rudy Giuliani had his law license suspended in the state of New York over his false and misleading claims about the 2020 election, and a week ago, The Trump Organization and its Chief Financial Officer Allen Weisselberg were indicted on tax fraud charges and accused as part of a two-year investigation that began when Trump was still in office. Weisselberg and lawyers for the Trump Organization both pleaded not guilty.

The former president has reportedly told others that he wont have to wait until 2024 to return to the White House. The New York Times and other news outlets have reported that Trump expects to be reinstated as president by August.

The Possible Candidates Who Have Stayed In The News Traveled Recently To Iowa Or Other Early Primary States Or Finished High In Recent Cpac And Western Conservative Summit Straw Polls

The way-too-early race for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination has entered a new phase.

Though its still a long way off from anyone officially declaring their candidacy, former President Donald Trump has officially returned to the campaign trail and other would-be candidates are making more trips to early primary states to stump for Republicans there and speak with voters. Trump came in first in straw poll at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Texas Sunday with 70%, followed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis at 21%, and a host of other potential candidates at 1% or less.

Back in April, Deseret News looked at the early field of potential 2024 Republican presidential candidates. Since then, some have begun making moves that suggest theyre serious about preparing for a possible run, while others have kept a lower profile. The possible candidates in this list are based on whos stayed in the news, traveled recently to Iowa or other early primary states, or finished high in a recent Western Conservative Summit straw poll.

Trump Backs Rival To Top Wis Republican Who Wont Decertify

MADISON, Wis. Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday endorsed a little-known Republican challenging Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, accusing Vos of doing too little to overturn 2020 election results in the swing state.

Trump called Adam Steen a rising patriotic candidate ahead of Wisconsins Aug. 9 primary, in which Vos, the states most powerful Republican, is heavily favored.

Also on Tuesday, the Trump-backed candidate for Wisconsin governor said he would back Trump for president in 2024, less than 24 hours after he wouldnt commit to supporting a Trump presidential run. Trump is hosting a rally for gubernatorial candidate Tim Michels in Wisconsin on Friday.

If President Trump runs again in 2024, I will proudly endorse him, Michels said on Twitter in a message promoting his rally with Trump on Friday in suburban Milwaukee.

Thats a change from what he said Monday at a televised town hall when Michels was asked whether he would endorse Trump should he run for president in 2024.

2024? Im focused on this election right now, Michels said. I have made no commitment to any candidates in 2024. What I am focused on is beating Tony Evers.

Michels, co-owner of the states largest construction company, faces former Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch in the Aug. 9 primary. Kleefisch is endorsed by former Vice President Mike Pence who will be campaigning with her on Wednesday, two days before Trump arrives.

Whos Running For President In 2020

Former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. is the presumptive Democratic nominee to challenge President Trump in the 2020 race.

The field of Democratic presidential candidates was historically large, but all others have dropped out. Mr. Trump had also picked up a few Republican challengers, but they have also ended their campaigns.

    Running

Has run for president twice before.

Is known for his down-to-earth personality and his ability to connect with working-class voters.

His eight years as Barack Obamas vice president are a major selling point for many Democrats.

Signature issues: Restoring Americas standing on the global stage adding a public option to the Affordable Care Act strengthening economic protections for low-income workers in industries like manufacturing and fast food.

Main legislative accomplishment as president: a sweeping tax cut that chiefly benefited corporations and wealthy investors.

Has focused on undoing the policies of the Obama administration, including on health care, environmental regulation and immigration.

Was impeached by the House of Representatives for seeking to pressure Ukraine to smear his political rivals, but was acquitted by the Senate.

Signature issues: Restricting immigration and building a wall at the Mexican border renegotiating or canceling international deals on trade, arms control and climate change withdrawing American troops from overseas.

Ended her campaign in March 2020 and said she would back Mr. Biden.

Odds On Which Candidate Will Drop Out Next

When the early state primaries and caucuses are ongoing, sportsbooks usually post a fun political prop on the next candidate to drop out. These futures odds tend to focus on the side that is in opposition to the incumbent, but in 2024, we expect to see legitimate challengers on both sides of the aisle.

However, if Biden makes it through his first three years in good physical and mental health, there is a strong likelihood that the 2024 campaign could be a repeat of 2020: Biden vs. Trump. The heat of these campaigns is still a long way off, and anything can happen between now and then, but the odds are the highest and most profitable the further out bettors lay action on them.

Gov Ron Desantis : Unclear But A Likely Rival

Trump once called DeSantis his “great friend,” but their relationship appears to be on the rocks as DeSantis is increasingly heralded as a potential rival in the 2024 primary. Sources close to the former president said the two haven’t spoken since early summer, The Washington Post reports. Trump has yet to endorse DeSantis in his November re-election race, despite doing so in 2018 DeSantis likewise hasn’t asked Trump for an endorsement and according to Politico, doesn’t plan to do so.

DeSantis has yet to announce plans to run for president, but he also hasn’t denied that he is considering it. He has been touring swing states and headlining Republican rallies throughout the country.

DeSantis told Fox News reporters “nice try” when asked if wanted to run in June. The Post reports that he told Arizona donors who inquired about his 2024 ambitions that “I’m governor of Florida, and I’m running for re-election in Florida.”

Women Presidential And Vice Presidential Candidates: A Selected List

Florida Governor Tops Trump In 2024 Presidential Poll | MSNBC

Many women have sought to become President of the United States. A number received national attention, either as pioneers in the electoral process, as potential candidates, or as candidates of minor parties with a significant national presence. Others were from minor parties or were fringe candidates who entered major party primaries. Only one woman, Hillary Clinton, was a major-party nominee for president. She was nominated by the Democratic party in 2016.

One woman has won the office of the Vice President: Kamala Harris in 2020.Three women have been nominated to run for the office of Vice President: Kamala Harris by the Democratic party in 2020, Sarah Palin by the Republican party in 2008, and Geraldine Ferraro by the Democratic party in 1984. Another woman, Frances Sissy Farenthold, had her name put into nomination for Vice President at the Democratic National Convention in 1972. In addition, Toni Nathan, the 1972 Libertarian candidate for Vice President, became the first woman to win an electoral vote when one Republican elector voted for her instead of for his partys candidate. It is worth noting that other women throughout history have had their names placed into nomination and/or earned electoral votes for vice president, but they did not receive wide support.

Who Will Run For President In 2024 Here Are The Top Gop Prospects

While political talk is focused right now on the 2022 Midterm Elections, there’s already speculation about potential 2024 GOP presidential candidates.

It comes as no surprise that most of that 2024 conversation centers on Donald Trump. He’s been strongly hinting at another run for president. He certainly sounded like a contender when CBN News spoke to him a few months ago.

He was asked what would make him not run. “Well, I guess a bad call from a doctor or something, right?” former President Donald Trump says. “You get that call and say, ‘Sir, how you doing? Come on down here and see us because we got a bad report. Right?’ … So things happen through God, they happen, but I feel so good. I hate what’s happening to our country.”

“You know, David, you and I have known each other a long time and I will tell you that for right now my focus is entirely on doing everything in my power to support the conservative cause and win back to Congress and statehouses all across this country,” Pence says. “In 2022, we’ll let the future take care of itself. I promise to keep you posted.”

The ultimate wild card is Donald Trump. Recent polls show him with a commanding 43-point lead over his closest challenger Ron DeSantis.
