Women Presidential And Vice Presidential Candidates: A Selected List

WATCH: President Trump asks Pence to be 2020 running mate

Many women have sought to become President of the United States. A number received national attention, either as pioneers in the electoral process, as potential candidates, or as candidates of minor parties with a significant national presence. Others were from minor parties or were fringe candidates who entered major party primaries. Only one woman, Hillary Clinton, was a major-party nominee for president. She was nominated by the Democratic party in 2016.

One woman has won the office of the Vice President: Kamala Harris in 2020.Three women have been nominated to run for the office of Vice President: Kamala Harris by the Democratic party in 2020, Sarah Palin by the Republican party in 2008, and Geraldine Ferraro by the Democratic party in 1984. Another woman, Frances Sissy Farenthold, had her name put into nomination for Vice President at the Democratic National Convention in 1972. In addition, Toni Nathan, the 1972 Libertarian candidate for Vice President, became the first woman to win an electoral vote when one Republican elector voted for her instead of for his partys candidate. It is worth noting that other women throughout history have had their names placed into nomination and/or earned electoral votes for vice president, but they did not receive wide support.

FILE – In this Jan. 17, 2021, file photo Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., introduces Vice President Mike Pence and second lady Karen Pence to speak to Army 10th Mountain Division soldiers in Fort Drum, N.Y. The Republican congresswoman has endorsed former President Donald Trump in 2024 and is considered a potential running mate.

Former President Donald Trump is officially making a third bid for the White House, launching his 2024 presidential campaign just a week after Republicans performed below expectations in the midterm elections.

In order to make America great and glorious again, I am tonight announcing my candidacy for president of the United States, Trump said Tuesday at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida. I am running because I believe the world has not yet seen the true glory of what this nation can be… We will again put America first.

Trumps candidacy isnt unexpected, but historic as he was the first president in U.S. history to be impeached twice his sole term ended in violence as supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, waving Make America Great Again flags and chanting Hang Mike Pence. If elected, the real estate mogul and former reality TV star would be the only president besides Grover Cleveland to serve non-consecutive terms.

Former Vice President Mike Pence is considering his own 2024 bid and has since gone from Trump, raising the question: Who will be Trumps running mate?

Who Is Trumps Running Mate Key Questions After Trumps 2024 Announcement

After months of teasing a third campaign for the presidency, Donald Trump is now officially seeking an Oval Office comeback.

Mr Trumps entry into the 2024 Republican presidential primary just one week after a disastrous result in the 2022 midterm elections is no surprise to anyone who has paid attention to his public appearances over the last two years.

The twice-impeached ex-president never stopped holding his signature campaign rallies, and has never stopped raising funds for his Save America political action committee .

But after most of Mr Trump chosen candidates for Senate and a handful of key governors races fell flat against their Democratic opponents, his road back to the White House may not be so smooth this time.

Here are some key questions the presidents new bid raises:

Who will he choose as his vice-presidential pick this time?

Well, it wont be Mike Pence. Mr Trumps loyal sidekick from his first term became persona non grata in Maga Country after he refused to illegally hijack the certification of 2020 electoral votes to install the ex-president in the White House for a second term.

Mr Trump hasnt indicated who he might consider choosing as a running-mate this time, but people close to him say his one and only criteria will be whether the person he picks will exhibit complete and total loyalty to him.

But because he needs to win the nomination first, we wont know who hell pick until the 2024 Republican National Convention if he is the GOP nominee.

Donald Trump 2024 Presidential Run

Trumps announcement ended as the attorneys filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission for a named Donald J. Trump for President 2024 committee. The filing marked the new campaign would correspond to an existing Trump Save America Joint Fundraising Committee, authorizing Trump to raise funds for other political efforts.

His campaign will be conducted by Florida operative Susie Wiles, former White House political aide Brian Jack and veteran strategist Chris LaCivita.

His son, Donald Trump Jr., is busy with his political operation, whereas daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, have moved away from Trump since he vacated the White House.

Trumps haste to declare his 2024 run comes in an attempt to protect himself against several investigations he is currently involved in.

He is facing a legal battle with a congressional committee on his tax records. The Department of Justice is enquiring about him in a criminal investigation into his mishandling of secret government documents. A congressional committee investigating January 6, 2021, U.S Capitol attack by his allies issued a warrant for Trump to testify under oath before the committee. Another inquiry is going on into his social media company, Truth Social.

Trumps real estate business, The Truth Organisation, is on trial for Tax evasion and fraud in New York.

Biden May Seek GOP Running Mate if He Wins Democrat Nomination â USA Herald

Former President Donald J. Trump announced at a rally in Latrobe, Pennsylvania that not only is he running for a second term in 2024, but his running mate is none other than former President Donald J. Trump.

I cant trust anyone else but me.

donald J. Trump

Trump explained to the MAGA crowd that former Vice President Mike Pence stabbed him in the back when he certified the fake electoral votes from the 2020 election. He continued to say that the reason why the United States never had one person serving as President and Vice President at the same time is that no one had ever thought of the genius idea before.

Other Republican hopefuls are now scrambling to decide whether or not they are also going to be their own Vice President. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis went on the record and stated hes running for President, Vice President, as well as a Supreme Court Justice. Mike Pence hasnt released his position yet. Those close to him believe he may court evangelicals by being the Vice President under a Jesus is LORD administration.

Professor Andrew Canard studies Republican psychosis at the Theological Institute of Theology . His books include Christofascism and Republicans Are Just National Socialists With Bad Fashion Sense. He thinks that Trump cant legally run for both offices, but that will not stop him from trying and possibly succeeding. Whos going to stop him? The conservative Supreme Court?

Pence Scrambles As Trump Considers New Running Mate For 2020

Mike Pence has already had to deal with rumors that he is going to be replaced on the ticket by Nikki Haley.

Trump is still privately questioning whether to keep Mike Pence as his running mate, Yahoo News reported on Thursday.

Behind the scenes, tensions have been mounting among Trump, Pence and their top advisers ever since the GOPs resounding losses in the 2018 midterms, the outlet reported.

After the party lost control of the House and Democrats secured a historic popular vote victory over the GOP, Trump asked aides about replacing Pence.

According to Yahoo, Trump hasnt let go of his concerns and during his August vacation at his New Jersey golf resort, Trump advisers say he continued to ask about how removing Pence from the ticket would be received.

At the same time, Pences team is reportedly concerned about a push from Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner to replace him with a woman on the ticket. Trump has always been weak with women voters he lost them to Hillary Clinton by 13 percentage points and they are a major reason he has never had a positive approval rating.

Just a few weeks ago, Pence was publicly humiliated when former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley started a rumor about her possibly replacing Pence. Pence then had to reassure supporters by publicly addressing Haleys comments.

There are certain pockets out there that want to solve their problems by replacing the running mate, a Pence adviser told Yahoo.

Trump Pence Rivalry Intensifies As They Consider 2024 Runs

NEW YORK Former Vice President Mike Pence is becoming increasingly brazen in his willingness to counter former President Donald Trump.

The two will hold dueling events in Arizona on Friday as they stump for rival candidates who offer dramatically different visions of the Republican Party in a critical battleground state. Days later, they will once again cross paths as they deliver major speeches on the same day in Washington, D.C.

The encounters mark a more confrontational phase in the fraught relationship between the former running mates and once close confidantes who could soon find themselves competing against one another in the 2024 GOP presidential primary if they both ultimately choose to run.

I think this is a continuation of the larger message that Pence is trying to embody here, which is the Republican Party should look to the future, said Scott Jennings, a longtime party strategist. This is going to be the existential question for the Republican Party: Are we going to listen to a slightly different view than Donald Trumps? Right now, the standard-bearer for this is Mike Pence.

That description marks a striking turnaround for Pence, who spent his four years in the White House as Trumps most loyal defender. But Trump turned on his vice president when Pence refused to go along with his unconstitutional efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election, putting Pence in the crosshairs of a violent mob on Jan. 6.

Are Their Policies Aligned

There are a number of issues in which the pair could campaign on a united front, such as immigration. Trump made a key campaign promise in 2016 to build a wall across the US.-Mexico border to stop illegal immigration. Greene has pushed for tougher policies as well, including recently calling for a complete four-year pause on immigration to the U.S.

Greene has also shown support for the former president amid his constant battles and investigations. During her three years in office, Greene attempted to launch impeachment hearings against President Joe Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland, and called for former top White House medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci to be “fired” for his response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

When FBI agents raided Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in August, Greene suggested the agency needed to be defunded.

However, there are several hot-topic policies that Greene supports that even Trump may consider too extreme, at least for the time being.

Greene has described herself as a Christian nationalist. Christian nationalists support the idea that the U.S. should solely be governed as a Christian nation. In comparison Trump, whose daughter Ivanka converted to Judaism before marrying Jared Kushner, frequently calls for more respect from the American Jewish community and took several steps to appeal to Jewish voters and maintain ties with Israel as president, including moving the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Potential Democratic Presidential Candidates

Trump asks Mike Pence to be running mate in 2020

The Democratic presidential primary field was expected to be large in 2020.The New York Times reported in September 2017 that, “In interviews, more than three dozen leading Democratic donors, fund-raisers and operatives agreed that it was the earliest start they had ever seen to the jockeying that typically precedes the official kickoff to the campaign for the partys presidential nomination. It is a reflection of the deep antipathy toward President Trump among Democrats, and the widespread belief that the right candidate could defeat him, but also of the likelihood that the contest for the nomination could be the longest, most crowded and most expensive in history.”

The following 18 politicians and public figures were discussed as potential candidates for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination.

Politicians

  • Brian Schatz, U.S. senator from Hawaii
  • Sally Yates, former acting attorney general

Business executives and public figures

  • Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase
  • Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft and co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
  • Bob Iger, CEO of Disney
  • Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, actor and professional wrestler
  • Michelle Obama, former first lady of the United States
  • Oprah Winfrey, mass media owner and philanthropist
  • Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook founder

Trump Suggests Pence Would Not Be 2024 Running Mate If He Runs Again

WASHINGTON As former President Donald Trump teases a third bid for the White House, he is signaling that his old running mate wont be joining the ticket this time around.

In an interview with The Washington Examiner on Tuesday, Trump said: I dont think the people would accept Pence as his running mate on a prospective 2024 ticket. Trump would first need to secure the Republican nomination, of course, before formally selecting a running mate.

Mike and I had a great relationship except for the very important factor that took place at the end. We had a very good relationship, Trump said. I havent spoken to him in a long time.

Trump is referring to Pences refusal to overturn the 2020 election after Trump urged him to do so. Pence has since said that he lacked the power to do so, but Trump has criticized that position, arguing that Pence could used the power of the vice presidency to block President Joe Bidens election. The overwhelming majority of constitutional scholars have said Trumps position is without merit.

Trumps remarks come as Pence has increasingly distanced himself from the former president. As NBC News reported this week, Pence has broken with Trump more in the past five weeks than he had in the previous five years as he considers a 2024 presidential campaign of his own.

Kanye West Confirms 2024 Presidential Campaign Asks Donald Trump To Be Running Mate

Kanye West has confirmed he will run for president again in 2024, but it was a question he had for Donald Trump that made the latter scream.

William weighs into shock royal race row

Kanye West has confirmed he will contest the 2024 US presidential election as a candidate.

West, now known as Ye, posted his first campaign video for his second run for Americas highest office. He also ran in 2020, garnering 70,000 votes, compared to Joe Bidens 80 million.

The video, which was a one-minute and 51-second stream of consciousness ramble recapping a meeting he had with Donald Trump at the former presidents Florida compound, Mar-a-Lago, revealed Wests campaign logo, a simple YE24 against a blue background.

West also claimed in the footage that he asked Trump to be his vice president, with Trump most perturbed at the suggestion.

Trump started basically screaming at me at the table, telling me Im going to lose. Has that ever worked for anyone in history? he said.

Trump announced last week he would run again for president in 2024.

Wests 2024 presidential run follows a tumultuous few years for the rapper, producer and provocateur in which he has forged ties with far-right figures, including Milo Yiannopoulos and Nicholas Fuentes. He attended Trumps Mar-a-Lago dinner with the latter.

Fuentes is a white nationalist and Holocaust denier. In the video, West claimed he urged Trump to listen to loyalists such as Fuentes.

Does Trump Need A Female Running Mate

Paul Manafort expressed his loyalty to former President Donald Trump in a new interview with incoming NewsNation host Chris Cuomo, saying he believes the former president will run again for president in 2024.

Cuomo also asked Manafort about Ron DeSantis and if he thinks Trump can beat the Republican governor.

Although DeSantis has not declared hes running for president in 2024, he appears to be building his political brand, which is toeing the line between the establishment and MAGA movement.

Manafort responded by saying Trump needs someone like Tim Scott in his corner, not DeSantis.

Former GOP Communications Director Tara Setmayer disagreed, telling NewsNations Ashleigh Banfield on Tuesday night that Trump is probably going to pick a woman when it comes to his running mate.

Weve already seen several Republican women that are vying for Trumps affection, from Kristi Noem to Elise Stefanik to others. Setmayer said. That was an interesting out-of-left-field answer from Manafort.

There are four Republican women most often mentioned as possible Trump running mates: Nikki Haley, Elise Stefanik, Kristi Noem and Sarah Palin.

Haley is the most prepared on paper. She was the governor of South Carolina and Trumps ambassador to the United Nations.

But, despite their close working relationship and friendship, theyve had their differences. In 2016, when Trump was running, Haley said shed endorse any Republican except Trump.

Election Day And Beyond

No, Democrats haven

Early on November 4, despite the fact that no clear winner of the election had been determined, Trump declared victory from the White House, stating that he did win the election. At that point, results from states such as Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan and Georgia were unclear. Although Trump was leading in the vote count of those states at the time, experts believed that many of the still-uncounted voteswhich included votes from large cities and mail-in ballotswould turn out to favor Biden.

On November 5, the Trump Victory in Wisconsin group declared it would be chasing our absentee ballots over in Pennsylvania for people who had yet to vote. Also that day, the Kenosha For Trump group sent an email urging volunteers to make phone calls to Pennsylvania Trump supporters to return their absentee ballots. However, votes had to be postmarked by November 3 to count as legal votes in Pennsylvania, and Trump himself has described late votes as election fraud.
