Who Is Trump’s Financial Advisor

Don't Miss

Hes Cooperated With Prosecutors In The Past

Former President Trump advisor seeks to be Oklahoma senator

Weisselbergs name hasnt been particularly important in the Manhattan district attorneys court battles over Trumps tax records. But he has played a role in different investigations from federal and state prosecutors.

The chief financial officer testified for federal prosecutors in Manhattan who secured Cohens guilty plea. Weisselberg helped the Trump Organization reimburse Cohen the $130,000 hush-money payment he made to Stormy Daniels, the adult-film actress who said she had sex with Trump during Melania Trumps pregnancy.

Weisselbergs name didnt appear in the charging documents against Cohen, and he was never charged for his participation in the scheme.

Cohen hasnt forgiven Weisselberg. When the news broke that prosecutors were looking into Weisselbergs family, he spoke out on Twitter.

Remember that Allen Weisselberg received immunity from the SDNY to provide information and testify against me for the @StormyDaniels payment. #KarmaBoomerang,Cohen wrote.

In a separate investigation, for Trumps now defunct charity foundation, Weisselberg testified for prosecutors working for New York Attorney General Letitia James.

Weisselberg told prosecutors he had little knowledge of the Trump Foundations operations and testified he had no knowledge that he was on the Trump Foundations board of directors in a deposition transcript reviewed by Insider.

Weisselbergs vast knowledge of Trumps finances has made him a target in civil lawsuits as well.

One Decade Of Business Dealings

A useful snapshot is Trumps record during the 10 years before he won the presidency. From 2006â2016, The New York Times went through every business deal that the Trump Organization announced or that was reported.

The 60 deals reflected a highly uneven track record of business success: One-third of them never got off the ground or soon petered out. Another third delivered a measure of what was promisedâbuildings were built, courses taught, a product introducedâbut they also encountered substantial problems, like lawsuits, government investigations, partnership woes, or market downturnsThe remaining third, while sometimes encountering strife, generally met expectations, according to The New York Times.

Any deeper examination of the former presidents business record would be incomplete without looking at his series of high-profile bankruptcies and other failures. Below is a list of some of the highlights, although it is by no means comprehensive.

This weekend, a video of Trumps spiritual adviser, Paula White, surfaced showing her preaching some potentially ungodly words.

We command any satanic pregnancies to miscarry right now! she says, before clarifying: We declare that anything thats been conceived in satanic wombs that it will miscarry, it will not be able to carry forth any plan of destruction, any plan of harm.

White has since claimed that her words were taken out of context she wasnt praying for literal miscarriages, just metaphorical ones! Right. Whatever the case, its not the most outlandish thing shes ever advocated.

Trumps Unofficial Advisors On Va Had Significant Access Influence Over Policy: Report

Who is Carl Icahn? Donald Trump

A trio of executives with personal ties to President Donald Trump wielded even more influence over Veterans Affairs policies while he was in office than previously thought, running afoul of federal transparency and lobbying laws, according to a new report released by the House Oversight Committee on Monday.

The result of the Democrat-controlled panels months-long investigation found that the arrangement violated the law and sought to exert improper influence over government officials to further their own personal interests.

That included communications with Trumps daughter, Ivanka, and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, using personal email accounts to evade public disclosures of the discussions into department reforms and decisions about upgrading VAs electronic medical records system.

The three men at the center of the controversy Marvel Entertainment CEO Ike Perlmutter, primary care specialist Dr. Bruce Moskowitz, and attorney Marc Sherman were all members of Trumps Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida in 2017 when Trump tapped them to be unofficial advisors to his administration on VA issues.

At the time, White House officials insisted that the arrangement was simply an opportunity for the president and key advisors to gather ideas from outside business experts.

But a ProPublica investigation into the group in 2018 found the trio had significant access to and influence over VA officials, without any official public oversight role.

Five Months At Rikers

Prosecutors charged The Trump Organization and Weisselberg in July 2021 with scheming to defraud, tax fraud and falsifying business records for awarding “off-the-books” perks to senior executives.

Weisselberg was accused of concealing and avoiding taxes on $1.76 million of income.

This included rent for a Manhattan apartment, lease payments for two Mercedes-Benz vehicles, and tuition for relatives, with Trump signing the tuition checks.

Weisselberg’s plea agreement calls for him to serve five months at the Rikers Island jail, though he could be freed after 100 days. It also include five years of probation, and the payment of $1.99 million in taxes, penalties and interest.

The jail sentence would begin after the Trump Organization’s trial concludes. Weisselberg could have faced 15 years in prison if convicted at trial, including on a grand larceny charge.

During Thursday’s hearing, Weisselberg removed his mask as Justice Juan Merchan described each count of the indictment. Weisselberg agreed that the accusations against him were true.

Weisselberg gave up the CFO job after being indicted, but remains on Trump’s payroll as a senior adviser.

Judge Could Unseal Trump Warrant Affidavit

President Donald Trump’s senior advisor Stephen Miller tests positive for coronavirus

Meanwhile, a federal judge on Thursday ordered the Justice Department to put forward proposed redactions as he committed to making public at least part of the affidavit supporting the search warrant for former President Donald Trump’s estate in Florida.

US Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart said that under the law, it is the government’s burden to show why a redacted version should not be released and prosecutors’ arguments Thursday failed to persuade him.

He gave them a week to submit a copy of the affidavit proposing the information it wants to keep secret after the FBI seized classified and top secret information during a search at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate last week.

The hearing was convened after several news organisations, including The Associated Press, sought to unseal additional records tied to last weeks search, including the affidavit. It is likely to contain key details about the Justice Departments investigation examining whether Trump retained and mishandled classified and sensitive government records.

The Justice Department has adamantly opposed making any portion of the affidavit public, arguing that doing so would compromise its ongoing investigation, would expose the identities of witnesses and could prevent others from coming forward and cooperating with the government.

What To Watch For

The Trump Organization could be forced to pay fines if found guilty at trial, while Weisselberg could face a prison sentence of up to 15 years if hes found guilty of grand larceny, the most serious charge against him. The Washington Postnoted that none of the charges against the ex-CFO carry a mandatory prison sentence, however, meaning its possible he could face no prison time at all.

House Jan 6 Panel Subpoenas Trump Advisors Associates

The House special committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol has subpoenaed four of former President Trumps advisors and associates who were in contact with him before and during the attack.

The panel subpoenaed former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, former White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications Dan Scavino, former Defense Department official Kashyap Patel and former Trump advisor Stephen K. Bannon.

Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson wrote to the four men that the panel is investigating the facts, circumstances, and causes of the attack and asked them to produce documents and appear at depositions in mid-October.

The subpoenas are a significant escalation for the committee, which is now launching the interview phase of the investigation after sorting through thousands of pages of documents the committee requested from federal agencies and social media companies. The goal is to provide a complete accounting of the events related to Jan. 6, when Trump loyalists quickly overwhelmed police and interrupted the certification of Joe Bidens election victory and to prevent anything like it from ever happening again.

The committee also cites Meadows work to overturn Trumps defeat in the weeks prior to the insurrection and his pressure on state officials to push the former presidents false claims of widespread voter fraud.

The Donald Trump Advisers Who Brought On The Capitol Riot

In the days after New Years, a senior White House staffer and a campaign aide told Newsweek, the people around Donald Trump were just hoping to get through the final two weeks of Trumps term without a major incident. Hoping was about all they could do, said the aide, since there has never been anyone who can control Trump.

By the evening of January 6, after an angry mob of Trump supporters had ransacked the Capitol building, those hopes were in tatters. Since the November election, Trump had taken his bitterness over the outcome and, with the help of close aides and advisors, channeled it into a campaign to delegitimize Joe Biden and set up another run for the presidency in 2024. In the process, he fueled the belief among his supporters that the outcome of the election could be overturned. On January 6, reality intruded, and that hope turned into rage. And when it did, Donald Trumps hopes for a comeback died.

For months before the election, Trump had tweeted his concerns about mail-in ballots, viewing them as invitations to widespread voter fraud. When he woke up on November 4 to find that his lead the previous night in key battleground states had evaporated thanks in large part to mail in ballots, Trump concluded that hed been screwed, as he told a friend later.

Trump Executive Weisselberg Pleads Guilty To Tax Fraud

Donald trump

Weissellberg has spent decades at the Trump Organization, his plea deal may compel him totestify against the company.

The former chief financial officer of Donald Trumps company, Allen Weisselberg, has pleaded guilty to tax violations in a deal that would require him to testify about illicit business practices at the Trump Organization.

Weisselberg entered guilty pleas to every one of 15 felony charges in a New York court on Thursday, before Justice Juan Merchan.

He had been charged with accepting more than $1.7m in off-the-books compensation from the former presidents company across 15 years, including untaxed perks like rent, car payments and school tuition.

Merchan asked Weisselberg in court Thursday if he had deliberately avoided taxes on those perks. Yes, your honour, Weisselberg answered.

Merchan agreed to sentence Weisselberg to five months incarceration at New York Citys Rikers Island jail complex, although he will be eligible for release much earlier if he behaves well behind bars.

That is far shorter than the many years in state prison he could have faced if, rather than plead guilty, he were convicted at trial.

The judge said Weisselberg will have to pay nearly $2m in taxes, penalties and interest.

The plea bargain also requires Weisselberg to testify truthfully as a prosecution witness when the Trump Organization goes on trial in October on related charges.

Trump has not been charged or accused of wrongdoing.

More: Longtime Trump Organization Cfo Expected To Plead Guilty To Tax Charges Say Sources

“In one of the most difficult decisions of his life, Mr. Weisselberg decided to enter a plea of guilty today to put an end to this case and the years-long legal and personal nightmares it has caused for him and his family,” said Weisselberg’s attorney, Nicholas Gravante Jr. “Rather than risk the possibility of 15 years in prison, he has agreed to serve 100 days. We are glad to have this behind him.”

Weisselberg repeatedly answered “Yes, your honor” as Judge Juan Merchan asked a series of questions about the scheme to evade taxes, admitting that he falsely underreported compensation, including a luxury apartment on Riverside Drive in Manhattan, multiple Mercedes Benz cars, cash, private school tuition for his grandchildren, and additional homes.

As part of his plea deal, Weisselberg, 75, agreed to serve five months in prison followed by five years of supervised release. He also agreed to testify against the Trump Organization when the company goes on trial in connection with the alleged compensation scheme beginning in October.

If he does not testify truthfully, the deal is off, exposing Weisselberg to additional prison time of between five and 15 years.

“The defendant must agree to testify truthfully at the trial of the Trump Organization,” assistant district attorney Joshua Steinglass said.

Weisselberg must also pay back taxes and penalties totaling $1.94 million.

Weisselberg and the company are accused of defrauding tax authorities in order to heavily compensate certain beneficiaries at the company, including Weisselberg himself.

The purpose of the scheme was to compensate Weisselberg and other Trump Organization executives in a manner that was off the books: the beneficiaries of the scheme received substantial portions of their income through indirect and disguised means, with compensation that was unreported or misreported by to the tax authorities, the indictment read.

The scheme was intended to allow certain employees to substantially understate their compensation from the Trump Organization, so that they could and did pay federal, state, and local taxes in amounts that were significantly less than the amounts that should have been paid, it continued.

The presidents accounting firm has found itself at the center of this high-stakes fight. The American arm of a global firm, Mazars has portrayed itself as an innocent bystander in the war between Trump and his pursuers, dragged into the conflict merely for possessing the trove of subpoenaed records. Its the firms first burst into the media glare apart from an unfortunate moment of tabloid coverage in 2016 after one of its New York partners stabbed his wife to death in the shower of their suburban home. Mazars has said it will abide by whatever decision the court makes in the Trump matter.

But Trumps accountants are far from bystanders in the matters under scrutiny or in the rise of Trump. Over a span of decades, they have played two critical, but discordant, roles for Trump. One is common for an accounting firm: to help him pay the smallest amount of taxes possible. The second is not common at all: to help him appear to the world to be rich beyond imagining. That sometimes requires creating precisely the opposite impression of whats in his tax filings.
