TOLEDO, Ohio Republicans and Democrats are finding some common ground this election their campaign signs are being stolen.
The Bowling Green Police Division is one of many area police departments getting calls about this issue. Lt. Dan Mancuso said signs from both parties being taken from front yards, businesses and other private properties.
We have been receiving reports of stolen political signs, we do traditionally get those every election cycle, Mancuso said.
I came home from shopping and all of them were gone! I felt like this was a violation of my freedom of speech said Perrysburg resident Rodney Franks, who had his Biden signs stolen along with other Democratic signs.
At my house, weve had four signs taken over the last two campaigns, Trump supporter Mario Dominguez said.
If you plan to put out a campaign yard sign, the best way to protect it is by keeping it in a well-lit area, close to your home. If you have security cameras and can position it within the frame of the camera that can also help.
But sometimes even security footage isnt enough. If you catch someone on camera stealing your sign and police find them, it can be tricky proving the campaign sign they stole is actually yours because campaign signs are very similar to one another.

A man who thought people were stealing yard signs promoting Donald Trumps re-election bid shot multiple victims in Kansas on Saturday night, according to a report.
A police supervisor for the Topeka Police Department said at least three people were shot this weekend, with at least one victim suffering potentially life-threatening injuries.
The alleged shooter had confronted people about stealing signs for the presidents campaign, according to the Topeka Capital-Journal.
At least one victim was shot multiple times by the time the police responded to the incident on the 1300 block of NW Eugene, local news outlet 13-WIBW reported early Sunday.
The victims and alleged suspects involved in the case have not been identified by police. The Topeka Police Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Then, the city complained that he was violating a local ordinance over how tall a sign could be. And then, he decided to fight back, going to the media about his plight.

I live in a quiet Missouri City neighborhood at the end of a cul-de-sac where I may be the youngest person on the block, and Im not young at all.
In my daily walks, the Texan in me has me half-heartedly waving at every car that passes and politely delivering a Hows it going? to anyone sitting on their porch.
That includes the three houses that have me itching to throw in a little something extra post-pleasantries.
Were now three-plus weeks past Election Day, and those three houses still have Donald Trump signs or flags or both in their yard.
Im primarily a sportswriter. I completely understand irrational fandom.
Theres a guy a few houses down from me who faithfully hangs a Georgia Tech flag from the front of his house every college football season. Last month, his Georgia Tech Yellowjackets lost a game to Clemson 73-7. My neighbor didnt waver, and neither did his flag. Hes a Georgia Tech Man, Clemson be damned.
And Im guessing the same goes for my Trump supporter neighbors.
Their guy lost, but theyre going to Tammy Wynette it for as long as they can.
Now, the elections over and nearly all of those people, except for those three houses, have ditched the political signs and started decorating for Christmas. The relatively few Biden-sign owners have done the same.

The headline, McCain Blasts Obama As Out Of Touch In Burma-Shave-Style Billboard Campaign, suggested that the Republican candidate was using road signs as anti-Obama poetry, in a style similar to the shaving companys long-running campaign, that lasted through the 1960s.
The jokethat McCain was relying on outdated marketing methods to campaign at a time when Obama was basically inventing the big data campaignwas worth a chuckle or ten. But hidden in the satire is a grain of truth. Burma-Shave did inspire political campaigning, because it highlighted just how effective signage could be in the right context.

Three people were shot Sunday in Kansas during a confrontation between multiple people and a man who believed they had stolen several of his lawn signs supporting President Trump.
When officers responded in North Topeka at 11 p.m., they found one person had been shot several times inside a car that had crashed, reported WIBW. The individual was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Two other victims also showed up at the hospital with gunshot wounds in connection with the case, police said.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing and no arrests have been made.
The police have not released the names, ages or genders of those wounded.
Federal law enforcement have been planning for the possibility of violence and disruptions as Election Day looms.
The FBI is also investigating a Trump Train incident from Friday, in which a Joe Biden campaign bus was surrounded by a dozen pickup trucks driven by Trump supporters as it traveled down a Texas interstate.

NEW BEDFORD, Massachusetts A Massachusetts homeowner has his neighborhood talking after placing an electric fence around his yard sign in support of President Donald Trump.

The navy veteran says six of his Trump 2020 signs have been stolen from his yard, WJAR reports.
The lifelong Democrat who just turned Republican said hes simply had enough.
Thats what our country is about, different opinions and being able to voice those opinions in a fair and equitable manner, Oliveria said. You have to be able to respect each other, because well never get anything accomplished if we dont.
Oliveria says the sign has stood its ground for two weeks since the electric wire was added.
Oliveria said he had another sign on his lawn, which encouraged people to vote, that was never touched.
The legality of electric fencing in residential areas in Massachusetts depends on the laws and regulations of the community.
If someone or their pet is hurt by the fencing, it could lead to legal trouble down the line.

When most people think about political signs, they generally think about them in terms of the rectangular 18×24 setup that has become the standard-bearer in yards around the country.
Steve Grubbs, however, doesnt think in those terms. The Republican political operative, who spent six years as an Iowa legislator in the 90s and was once the head of the Iowa GOP, launched a company in 1999 called VictoryStore.com, and its treated him well ever since, earning revenue in the tens of millions during election years.
