What News Channel Supports Trump

Trump Has A New Favourite News Network And It’s More Rightwing Than Fox

Historian Victor Davis Hanson on why he supports Trump

The US president has started giving plaudits – and access – to One America News Network, an obscure TV outlet that can outfox Fox

Donald Trump and Fox News are said to have one of the strongest marriages in political showbusiness. But there is a young rival hoping to outfox Fox and catch the US presidents wandering media eye.

The obscure One America News Network makes up for its lack of clout or viewers by covering every Trump utterance, recycling conspiracy theories, downplaying Russian threats, bashing the mainstream media and championing the Make America Great Again agenda.

Most Americans have not noticed, but the most powerful one has. The president rewards OAN with shout-outs and access wildly out of sync with its reach, leading some observers to suspect that he is playing OAN and Fox News off one another to ensure their undying affection.

It is a stark example of how Trump as media commentator cuts both ways: while deriding mainstream outlets as enemies of the people, he champions those that offer flattering coverage. Others, however, condemn OAN as a Fox News wannabe that is run on a shoestring with a team of underpaid and inexperienced staff.

Were the only network that I know of that will carry the presidents speech in its entirety and, regardless of whos the president, Charles Herring said. I really dont care who the president is: left-leaning, right-leaning, you like him, you hate him, it just seems like thats a function of the news.

Before One America News Network host Dan Ball finished an interview with guest Jim Jordan this past week, he asked the Ohio Republican congressman for a favor.

Please put some pressure on AT& T and DirecTV for us, said Ball, whose Real America airs nightly on the right-wing cable channel. OAN would love to continue broadcasting on that platform and we know for a fact it is all political behind the scenes on why theyre doing that to us.

Earlier in the week, Ball solicited viewers to send him dirt on William E. Kennard, chairman of of the board at DirecTV parent AT& T, including any evidence of marital infidelity. OANs 80-year-old founder, tech entrepreneur Robert Herring, also went on camera to plead with viewers to ask other cable and satellite providers in their areas to add the channel to their lineups.

The desperate calls for help which would be considered unseemly on a traditional cable news outlet follow DirecTVs Jan. 15 announcement that it will drop San Diego-based OAN from its service in April. DirecTV, which AT& T spun off last summer, accounts for nearly half of the 35 million homes that can receive OAN on cable or satellite TV. The channel is not broadly distributed enough to be measured by Nielsen.

Progressive groups, which have lobbied companies to drop OAN, lauded DirecTVs decision.

One America News Network , also known as One America News , is a far-right, pro-Trump cable channel founded by Robert Herring Sr. and owned by Herring Networks, Inc., that launched on July 4, 2013. The network is headquartered in San Diego, California, and operates news bureaus in Washington, D.C., and New York City.

The company said in 2019 OANN was available in 35 million homes and that its audience ranged from 150,000 to as large as 500,000, though that year Nielsen Media Research estimated its viewership to be about 14,000. By July 2022, the network was available only to few hundred thousand people who subscribed to smaller cable providers.

In October 2021, Robert Herring Sr. testified in court that the network was created at the urging of executives of AT& T, which through its subsidiary DirecTV has since been the source of up to 90% of the network’s revenues.

The network’s prime-time political talk shows have a conservative perspective, and the channel has described itself as one of the “greatest supporters” of Donald Trump. Trump himself has promoted both the network and some of its hosts. The channel is known for promoting falsehoods and conspiracy theories.

Fox News needs Donald Trump to win but not for the reason you think.

A press release landed in media reporters inboxes last week: Fox News Channel Earns Highest-Rated Primetime Monthly Average in the History of Cable Led by Tucker Carlson Tonight. Carlson, Foxs biggest moneymaker, drew more than 5 million viewers on average to his show last month, with Sean Hannitys program close behind. Ratings for Fox News overall surged 43 per cent during the third quarter from a year earlier as it moderated the first U.S. presidential debate and covered the race and the many controversies surrounding it in its own Fox way. Stirring outrage among an ever-loyal audience of President Donald Trumps supporters has worked for Fox these last four years, but the election result could make or break the next four, or longer.

Foxs continued dominance is all but ensured if Trump wins again, as they both fight the same perceived enemy, the radical left. But should Democrat and former Vice President Joe Biden be elected, as polling predicts, Fox may face a new, genuine adversary: Trump TV.

Trump along with this family always seemed to want fame more than the presidency. If he loses, the real loser is Fox News. It will be interesting to see how that plays out, but investors already know what happened to Dr. Frankenstein.

For OANN, being seen as pro-Trump is a key part of the business model.

For example, the channel advertises commercial-free coverage of every single Trump rally and sometimes shows the warm-up speakers as well.

It wants recognition in exchange. Back in March, the channels main Twitter account complained when Trump thanked his supporters in the media without mentioning OANN. Not a single mention of One America News one of his GREATEST supporters @OANN calls bulls***, the tweet said.

The channel, headquartered in San Diego, launched in 2013 into a very difficult market for independently-owned cable channels.

Distributors are reluctant to add more channels to an already-jam-packed cable bundle. Thats why, six years later, OANN is still relatively obscure. Verizon and AT& T-owned platforms carry OANN, but other distributors like Comcast and Charter do not, so the channel is not available in most homes.

But Robert Herring and his son Charles, the president of OANN, are pressing forward. They see the channel as an alternative to Fox and all the other news options on TV, including CNN.

Like Fox, OANN is a combination of newscasts and fiery conservative talk shows. Many hours of the day are just an old-fashioned news wheel, with a heavy dose of international headlines. Bombastic talk shows and segments featuring Jack Posobiec, a notorious pro-Trump Internet personality, are mixed in. At times the content veers into conspiracy theory territory.

Trumps repeatedly discredited attempt to overturn the November results has been given continued sustenance by the Fox News star.

Fox News has been the most-watched cable news channel for 19 consecutive years, thanks to its effective positioning as a right-leaning alternative to other TV news outlets. As the rest of the traditional TV business declined in 2020, the channels audience grew. Fox News became the most-watched network in all of cable TV, according to Nielsen.

The network expected an audience falloff once Trump lost the White House, as it had seen viewers tune out after Barack Obama, a Democrat, defeated his Republican opponents in 2008 and 2012.

But Trump remained the main story in the weeks after the 2020 election with his unfounded charges of voter fraud, leading to the insurrection at the Capitol by pro-Trump rioters that killed five people, followed by the second impeachment trial. Depressed Trump supporters tuned out of Fox News during coverage of those events, while the ratings for MSNBC and CNN surged as viewers who dont habitually watch cable news were tuning in.

Fox News has managed to ride out ratings fluctuations in the past, but it took longer this time. The network has ranked first in viewers since Bidens inauguration, although it still trails CNN in the 25 to 54 age group important to advertisers.

Murdoch also tried to counter the notion that Fox News has veered too far to one end of the political spectrum.

Trump Is Angry That Fox News Is Ignoring Him And Focusing On Other Potential 2024 Candidates Report Says

  • Former President Donald Trump hasnt appeared on Fox News in 100 days.

  • According to The New York Times, hed rather have negative coverage than be ignored.

  • Trump has reportedly complained to aides that Sean Hannity, a longtime friend, is also overlooking him, per the NYT.

Former President Donald Trump is reportedly angry that Fox News is no longer putting him front and center in its coverage, according to The New York Times.

The Times reported that it would be more than 100 days since the former president was last interviewed by the network.

Fox News, which Trump appeared on around eight times more than any other TV channel during his presidency, is instead focusing on other potential candidates for the Republican nomination in 2024, per the newspaper.

Instead of broadcasting a Fox News aired a Laura Ingraham interview with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, The Times said.

A live broadcast of Trumps event with conservatives in Washington earlier this week was ignored by Fox News for a live speech by former Vice President Mike Pence.

According to The Times, which cited two people who have spoken to the former president recently, Trump is angrier about being ignored than he would be if Fox News were to cover him negatively.

Trump has recently complained to aides that Sean Hannity, who he was once friends with, also seems to be overlooking him, per The Times.

On March 18, 2021, OANN aired a segment which contained the phone number of New York Times reporter Rachel Abrams, who they claimed was “fishing for information” from disgruntled OANN employees for a “hit piece” and called on viewers to “stand up to intimidation by the left” by contacting Abrams. OANN also posted a tweet with the number on its Twitter account, which was deleted after more than 6 hours by Twitter for violating its rules on personal and private information. On April 18, 2021, Abrams published an article in The New York Times, which cited interviews with current and former OANN employees stating that the channel had broadcast reports they considered to be “misleading, inaccurate or untrue”, and that some employees were hoping the channel would be sued by Dominion Voting Systems, which it later was. Marty Golingan, one of the employees who was interviewed, was fired by OANN after the article was published.

In reporting this book on the Republican Party, I spoke with the former president several times, and we discussed media coverage that debunked his unfounded claims about the 2020 election.

A lot of people dont want that, Mr. Trump told me in an interview about a month after President Bidens inauguration, referring to critical if accurate news reports about his behavior. They dont want to hear negativity toward me.

Conspiracy Theorist Jack Posobiec

Far-right conspiracy theoristJack Posobiec was employed by OANN as a political correspondent from 2018 to 2021. Posobiec was a prominent proponent of the Pizzagate and murder of Seth Rich conspiracy theories.

In September 2018, Posobiec interviewed a pro-Hitler online poster known as Microchip on OANN without indicating that person’s affiliations, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center. The SPLC said the two men had worked together in spreading disinformation for several years, including the false claims propagated in Pizzagate. In 2020, during the George Floyd protests in Buffalo, New York, Posobiec falsely reported and promoted another unsubstantiated conspiracy theory regarding pipe bombs.

Why do so many rightwing American women have bottle-blond hair, often worn girlishly long? Im thinking of Kellyanne Conway, Ann Coulter and almost any woman on Fox News.

Excellent question, Jonathan! I was pondering something similar myself recently while looking through Ivanka Trumps fashion collection on ivankatrump.com, which seems to be one of the only places it is stocked these days. The grimly bland suede pumps, the simpering floral shifts, the just-flirtatious-enough body-skimming little black dresses welcome, people, to death by mainstream feminine. You know how your mother goes on about how you wear too much black/denim/weird stuff, and you cant figure out what the hell it is she expects you to wear? Well, allow me to introduce you to Ivanka Trump. What a shame it seems to be sold almost nowhere these days, as these are the clothes your mother dreams of. Oh well, looks like shell have to put up with you in your awesome Bella Freud jumper and Topshop wide-legged culottes combo for another weekend!

Dynamic Shifts Between Fox News Donald Trump

Former President Trump while in office could usually turn to Fox News for comfort. There were differences from time to time, and Trump made headlines occasionally by going after personalities on Fox most famously Megyn Kelly during a 2015 GOP presidential primary debate.

But for the most part, Trump, a rabid cable news follower, could tune in to find Fox News star hosts heaping praise on him and his administration while lambasting his critics and political enemies.

Trump still has his supporters on the network, but the dynamic between a former president openly flirting with another run for the White House and Rupert Murdochs top media asset is definitely changing.

For one thing, Fox is more focused on President Biden, a subject of relentless prime-time attacks, than Trump, and the network didnt air Trumps speech this week in Washington, D.C., even as it did air a portion of an earlier address Tuesday by former Vice President Mike Pence.

Trumps superpower is getting all the coverage. Thats not happening anymore. Fox is not covering him 24 hours a day, said Daniel Cassino, a media expert who wrote a 2016 book about the networks influence over American politics. So it seems that is leading to frustration that hes not dominating Fox the way he did before.

Character is revealed in a crisis, and Mr. Pence passed his Jan. 6 trial, The Wall Street Journals editorial board wrote last week. Mr. Trump utterly failed his.

Unite The Right Rally In Charlottesville

Fox News hosts and contributors defended Trumps remarks that many sides were to blame for violence at a gathering of hundreds of white nationalists in Charlottesville, Virginia. Some criticized Trump. In a press conference on August 15, Trump used the term alt-left to describe counterprotesters at the white supremacist rally, a term which had been used in Fox News coverage of the white supremacist rally. Several of Trumps comments at the press conference mirrored those appearing earlier on Fox News.

According to Dylan Byers of CNN, Fox News coverage on the day of the press conference was heavy with whataboutism. The average Fox viewer was likely left with the impression that the medias criticism of Trump and leftist protestors toppling of some Confederate statues were far greater threats to America than white supremacism or the presidents apparent defense of bigotry. Byers wrote it showed that if Fox News has a line when it comes to Trumps presidency, it was not crossed on Tuesday.
