Under his leadership, the Justice Department, which is traditionally independent from the President, became highly partisan and acted in Trump’s interest.Bloomberg News reported in October 2019 that during a 2017 Oval Office meeting, Trump had asked Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to pressure the Justice Department to drop a criminal investigation of Reza Zarrab, an Iranian-Turkish gold trader who was a client of Trump associate Rudy Giuliani. Tillerson reportedly refused.
Trump attempted to host the 2020 G7 Summit at his Doral Golf Resort, from which he could have made significant profits. Trump visited his properties 274 times during his presidency. Government officials were charged as much as $650 per night to stay at Trump’s properties.
In the lead up to the 2020 election, Trump and Postmaster GeneralLouis DeJoy, a close ally of Trump, sought to hamper the US postal service by cutting funding and services, a move which would prevent postal votes from being counted during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Trump has fired, demoted or withdrawn numerous government officials in retaliation for actions that projected negatively on his public image, or harmed his personal or political interests, including Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey, Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire.
House Republicans Plan Investigations And Possible Impeachments With New Majority
WASHINGTON House Republicans’ majority will be smaller than expected, but they’re eager to use their new oversight powers and pass a spate of bills to draw contrasts with Democrats and give the Biden administration heartburn.
In this moment of divided government and fierce partisanship, its perhaps appropriate that the GOP conference is expected to be led by Reps. Kevin McCarthy of California and Steve Scalise of Louisiana, veteran lawmakers known more for their skills in political combat than for their policy acumen.
Although House Republicans will still face a Democratic White House and Senate aimed at blocking their legislative aims, McCarthy who is working feverishly to cement his ascension to speaker despite growing discontent in his ranks has already made it clear the party plans to launch investigations into the Biden administration and at least one of the presidents family members.
A Radical Plan For Trumps Second Term
Former President Trumps top allies are preparing to radically reshape the federal government if he is re-elected, purging potentially thousands of civil servants and filling career posts with loyalists to him and his “America First ideology, people involved in the discussions tell Axios.
The impact could go well beyond typical conservative targets such as the Environmental Protection Agency and the Internal Revenue Service. Trump allies are working on plans that would potentially strip layers at the Justice Department including the FBI, and reaching into national security, intelligence, the State Department and the Pentagon, sources close to the former president say.
During his presidency, Trump often complained about what he called the deep state.
The heart of the plan is derived from an executive order known as Schedule F, developed and refined in secret over most of the second half of Trumps term and launched 13 days before the 2020 election.
The reporting for this series draws on extensive interviews over a period of more than three months with more than two dozen people close to the former president, and others who have firsthand knowledge of the work underway to prepare for a potential second term. Most spoke on condition of anonymity to describe sensitive planning and avoid Trumps ire.

Sen Tuberville On Trumps Potential Presidential Bid
When asked about former President Donald Trumps planned announcement Tuesday evening, Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville of Alabama said he is a supporter of the former president and had dinner with him last week where the two discussed when is the best time to launch a presidential campaign.
I gave him my thoughts and opinions on when to, when not to , but he’s going to do what he thinks is right for his campaign, Tuberville said.
Tuberville said the former president has some negatives to overcome but said he believes they will resolve themselves when Trump is on the campaign trail and starts talking about issues.
Tuberville, who said Trump helped him get elected, dubbed Trump the heir apparent when asked whom he views as the current leader of the Republican party but added that the GOP is searching for one.

An Unprecedented Race Is Forming
Trump’s speech sets up an unprecedented campaign: A candidate seeking to become the first ex-president to reclaim the White House since Grover Cleveland in 1892 all while under criminal investigation on multiple fronts and possibly under indictment down the line.
Republican office holders reacted tepidly to the possibility of an announcement.
Sen. John Cornyn, R-Tex., told reporters that “anybody can run” and that the “world has changed considerably” in recent weeks. Cornyn said he doesn’t think Trump will be “the only one who will run for president in 2024 and Ill support the Republican nominee. But I don’t know that it will be him.”
Several Republicans, including long-time allies like former spokesperson Kayleigh McEnany, had urged Trump to delay his announcement, at least until after a Dec. 6 Senate runoff in Georgia. Trump refused.

Where Will Trump Announce His 2024 Presidential Run
Trumps advisors may have done him a favour by preventing a pre-election announcement, which would have tied his presence even more closely to the GOP underperformance. But after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a likely GOP challenger in 2024, enjoyed a strong performance in the midterms Trump may wish to re-establish his place at the head of the Republican Party.
As such, he is unlikely to risk losing face by delaying this announcement. At the Ohio rally he was clear about his next step: Im going to be making a very big announcement on Tuesday, November 15, at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida.
The choice of location, his private beach club from which he has conducted business since leaving office, is no surprise, but also hints at another element of Trumps likely campaign.
After DeSantis strengthened his vote share in Florida last week, Trump will want to put down a marker in the state he considers his home. He has already began firing shots at DeSantis in public and that will only intensify once a Trump 2024 run is confirmed.
Nobody should be surprised. This is how Trump does primaries, Michael Caputo, a former Trump administration official, told CNN. The question you have to ask is whether this format can work for him again.
If Trump Had Gone To The Capitol What Did He Intend To Do There
It was three months ago yesterday when U.S. District Court Judge David Carter concluded that the illegality of Donald Trumps plot to overturn the election was obvious. The next question at least one of them, that is is what crimes the former president committed. According to Cassidy Hutchinson, former White House Counsel Pat Cipollone was concerned about officials being charged with every crime imaginable, but thats a little broad.
Obstruction of a congressional proceeding would certainly be near the top of the list, as would conspiring to commit fraud. Witness tampering also appears to be in the mix. After yesterdays hearing, theres also renewed interest in the possibility of charges surrounding incitement to riot. The New York Times that stood out:
Until this point, we had not seen proof that he knew about the violence, said Daniel Goldman, a former federal prosecutor who served as the lead counsel during Mr. Trumps first impeachment and is currently running for Congress in New York. The testimony made very clear he was not only entirely aware of the threat, but wanted armed people to march to the Capitol. He was even willing to lead them.
Thats a handy and accurate summary: Theres compelling evidence that Trump summoned enraged followers, assembled an armed mob just south of the White House, filled them with lies, and had every intention of joining them as they descended on the nations seat of government.

When Might Trump Announce His 2024 Bid
Trump could declare his 2024 presidential campaign this summer maybe even this month.
In late June, InfoWars host Alex Jones claimed to have learned, exclusively, that Trump planned to make the announcement on July 4. Obviously, that didn’t happen, but there’s still plenty of reason to expect an early launch.
The Telegraph reported last week that Trump’s aides were “rushing to build up basic campaign infrastructure in time for an announcement as early as this month.” The New York Times said the former president “recently surprised some advisers by saying he might declare his candidacy on social media without warning even his own team.”
Officials Are Looking To Revive A Controversial Order Issued In Trump’s Waning Days And Have Already Identified 50000 Federal Positions To Target
Former aides close to President Trump are working to revive and expand his signature proposal to upend the federal civil service, according to a new report, and are working in conjunction with the former commander in chief to quickly purge thousands of federal employees if he were to return to office.
The plan, as detailed to Axiosand confirmed by Government Executive, would bring back Schedule F, a workforce initiative Trump pushed in the 11th hour of his term to politicize the federal bureaucracy. The former officials and current confidantes are, through a network of Trump-loyal think tanks and public policy organizations, creating lists of names to supplant existing civil servants. They have identified 50,000 current employees that could be dismissed under the new authority they seek to create, Axios reported and Government Executive confirmed, though they hope to only actually fire a fraction of that total and hope the resulting chilling effect will cause the rest to fall in line.
The former Trump administration officials envision quickly shifting many employees under the new classification, making those positions eligible for quick hiring and firing without the normal protections afforded to civil servants. The new flexibility would allow a future Trump administration to get rid of any employees it deems as standing in the way of implementing its agenda and replace them with loyalists.

Donald Trump’s Plan For Revenge Is Now Clear
Nothing Trump has done since November 3 indicates that his behavior will be any more measured after January 20. He will do all he can to stoke his base, likely with an eye to the 2024 election. To that end, he will stop at nothing to command the publicity that is his electoral oxygen.
New Years Day may have marked the beginning of the end of Donald Trumps power. On January first, the Republican-led Senate voted 81-13 to join the Democratic-led House in overriding the presidents veto of the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2021. It was the first override of a Trump veto.
Ironically, the bill was named after a Republican, Mac Thornberry, the highly respected outgoing ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee. Thornberry had long been recognized as a thoughtful defense expert. Whether as chairman or as ranking member of the committee, he successfully worked with Adam Smith, his Democratic opposite number, as well as with his Republican and Democratic Senate counterparts to pass in timely fashion five consecutive highly complicated and progressively lengthy defense authorization bills.

The State Of The Race
Now that Trump has officially jumped into the race, several political action committees flush with cash are ready to help.
He controls four PACs with more than $US121 million at his disposal, according to former Republican strategist Karl Rove.
While US campaign finance laws bar him from immediately transferring this cash to his campaign, the PACs could independently support his candidacy.
Trump may still wield considerable power over the Republican Party, but his advantage is by no means insurmountable for potential challengers.
And polls suggest Republican voters are happy to explore their options as well.
Trump still retains the support of 53 per cent of Republicans, according to a New York Times/Siena College poll conducted last month.
But DeSantis is hot on Trump’s tail among the 30-44 age group, and ahead among voters with a college degree.
If he prevails, he will attempt to do to Joe Biden what the ageing Democrat did to him: unseat a one-term president.
President Biden, who has still not confirmed his own 2024 plans, has long maintained that he returned to politics at the age of 78 specifically to vanquish Trump from American life.
The president’s approval rating may have recently dipped to an all-time low, and some Democrats are even calling for him to step aside.
Biden And The Democrats Are Already Raising Money Off Of Trump’s Announcement
President Joe Biden and the Democrats didn’t waste any time raising money off of Trump’s announcement they emailed potential donors while the former president was still speaking.
“He will fail,” said the solicitation signed by Biden, and “people like you stepping up will be a big part of how its done.”
Biden went on to tout Democratic wins in the midterm elections.
“And if you step up now,” the email said, “our party will defeat MAGA Republicans again in 2024.”

Trump’s Announcement Speech: A Lot Like His Rally Speeches
The ex-president’s speech sounded a lot like his remarks at political rallies throughout the 2022 midterm elections, with the notable exception that he flatly said, finally, he was “announcing my candidacy for president of the United States.”
Otherwise, Trump talked about and exaggerated his record in office on issues like COVID, trade, energy, crime and immigration, as well as China, Russia, Iran, while attacking various these developments during the Joe Biden administration.
Trump also distorted the results of the 2022 elections. He said Republicans will likely win control of the U.S. House, but did not mention that their margin may be less than a half-dozen seats much smaller that Trump and the Republican had hoped.
He acknowledged that the GOP lost ground in the Senate, but added that “we cannot lose hope.”
What Trump did not mention: A rising number of party members have blamed those losses on him, and suggested that he step aside for 2024.
Trump did not heed that advice.
“We will not stop,” he said.

Trump Should Not Run For President In 2024 Majority Of Americans Say
As former President Donald Trump considers launching another bid for the White House, more than six in 10 Americans do not want him to run in 2024, according to a new PBS NewsHour/NPR/Marist poll. And while Trumps possession of more than 10,000 government documents at his Florida home seems not to have changed the minds of his steady supporters, a plurality of Americans think he has done something illegal.
The level of support for another Trump campaign remains virtually unchanged from December 2020, the month after he lost the presidential election and weeks before a mob of his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol in an effort to stop the certification of the Electoral College votes.
His numbers dont move. Theyre locked in, said Lee Miringoff, the director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion. The good thing for former President Trump is his numbers dont drop. The bad thing is hes only talking about a third of the electorate who are in his corner.

Thats not a great place to launch an election campaign, he added.
Just 28 percent of independents believe Trump should run again, this poll found, while two-thirds say the former president should sit out the next election. According to 2020 exit polling, 41 percent of independents had voted for Trumps reelection, suggesting a significant cratering of support since.

In deciding to make his announcement from the ballroom of Mar-a-Lago, his private Palm Beach club, Trump is rejecting the advice of prominent Republicans who cautioned against launching a presidential campaign so soon after the GOP’s disappointing midterm election results.
Trump’s entry into the race unofficially kicks off the 2024 Republican presidential primary, a contest that has shifted dramatically in the past week.
Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis’s 19-point victory in his reelection campaign on Nov. 8 electrified Republicans nationwide, becoming the brightest spot on a day when Democrats won most of the high-profile Senate and governors’ races.
DeSantis is reportedly assembling a presidential campaign team and preparing to challenge Trump for the GOP nomination. Before last week, DeSantis was a long shot for president in 2024, but after Tuesday, he’s a strong contender.
Should Trump win the Republican nomination, he will likely face President Joe Biden in a rematch of the 2020 presidential contest. Biden has yet to formally launch his reelection campaign, but plans for a campaign have reportedly solidified in recent weeks.
