Trumps Approval Rating Holding Steady At 43 Percent With 55 Percent Disapproving
The same poll found that 35 percent of voters including 74 percent of Republicans but just 30 percent of independents and 3 percent of Democrats believe President-elect Joe Biden did not win the election legitimately.
Sixty-one percent of all voters but just 21 percent of Republicans say Biden did win legitimately.
While a record 10 House Republicans broke ranks to vote for Trumps impeachment last week, his approval rating among Republicans shows few signs that GOP voters are widely disillusioned with him.
Almost 9 in 10 Republicans 87 percent give Trump a thumbs-up, compared with 89 percent who said the same before the November election.
And even for the half of Republicans who say they prioritize the GOP in general over allegiance to Trump, his high approval remains unmoved by recent events.
Among Republicans who say their primary loyalty is to Trump over the party, 98 percent approve of his performance. For those who say they prioritize the party over the president, his approval still stands at 81 percent virtually unchanged from October.
In the NBC News survey, nearly a third of GOP voters surveyed 28 percent said Trumps words and actions related to the violence at the Capitol reinforced their vote for Trump.
Just 5 percent said they now regretted their support for him, and two-thirds 66 percent said their feelings had not changed.
An additional 9 percent say Trump is not as good as most.
Roughly Half Of Americans Approve Of What Biden Has Done So Far
About half of Americans 49 percent said they approve of how Biden has served as president so far, less than two months into his presidency, according to the latest poll. But as was the case with his predecessor, whose last year in office was marred by the pandemic, much of that support comes from people who identify as members of his own party. Among Democrats, Bidens approval rating was 87 percent. But only 11 percent of Republicans and43 percent of independents said they approved of the president.

Another 42 percent of Americans disapprove of what Biden has done so far as president, including 81 percent of Republicans and 43 percent of independents.
Still, Biden currently has a higher job approval rating than former President Donald Trump ever reached during his four years in the White House, according to Marist polling data. And support for Biden seems to be growing. In this latest poll, 52 percent of Americans said they had a favorable impression of him. Thats up from 41 percent in October 2019 in the midst of Trumps first impeachment. Since then, Biden has inched up in favorability.
Republicans in Congress face steeper job disapproval, with 64 percent of Americans saying they do not like what they are seeing, an increase of 6 percentage points over January 2019, including 38 percent of Republicans and 85 percent of Democrats.

Its a problem that, unlike Trumps hold over the nuclear codes, wont go away Wednesday at noon. The overwhelming majority of Republicans think Trump has done a great job. Yes, he got clobbered by Biden, but 74 million people still wanted him to be president for another four years. Obama, by comparison, never received more than 66 million votes.
This popularity among Republicans is reflected in Congress, where not only do the vast majority of elected Republicans approve of Trump, they went on the record to support his effort to overthrow the election, and then voted against impeaching him in the wake of the insurrection at the Capitol. All of these people will remain in Congress for another two years at least. This too is more than a little concerning considering the role many of them played in leading the armed insurrection. They certainly seem like theyre going to continue to push Trumps baseless claims about election integrity, social media bias, and a Democratic agenda built around turning America into a crime-ridden socialist wasteland, too.
In fact, its already started. They want to digitally erase us online, pursue us in the flesh, make us unemployable and make it difficult for conservatives to be able to assemble and share ideas, Rep. Matt Gaetz said of Democrats during an interview with Sean Hannity on Monday. Its not just like tear-rolling-down-the-side-of-the-cheek depressing, he added. Its draw-the-warm-bath-and-get-a-sharp-blade depressing.

Trump Loves Lying About Polls
As Ive extensively detailed, Trump is shameless when it comes to lying about polling. Last month, for instance, he repeatedly touted a disreputable Zogby poll that inflated his general approval rating by about 10 percent. Earlier in the summer, when internal Trump campaign polling that showed the president lagging behind Democratic frontrunner Joe Biden in key battleground states leaked to the media, Trump responded in much the same way by tweeting out a disreputable poll from Rasmussen showing his overall approval rating at an inflated 50 percent.
But Trump has reserved his most shameless polling-related lies for claims about his Republican approval rating. In July, for instance, he tweeted that his GOP approval was the highest in the history of the Republican Party. That includes Honest Abe Lincoln and Ronald Reagan. Poll: Donald Trump Ends Presidency With Lowest Approval Rating
President Donald Trump will leave office with the lowest approval rating of his presidency, according to a Pew Research poll.
The poll conducted from January 8-12 shows Trump currently has a 29 percent approval rating.
The Pew poll differs sharply from a Rasmussen poll released Friday showing the president still holds an approval rating of 48 percent.
The Pew poll shows 68 percent of Americans disapprove of Trumps performance after the riots on Capitol Hill, up nine points.
In August, the Pew poll showed Trump had a 38 percent favorable approval rating and in June he had a 39 percent rating. Trumps highest rating in the Pew poll was at 45 percent in March 2020.
Since August, the president has suffered a 17-point decline in approval from Republicans and Republican-leaning individuals in the poll.
The poll shows Trumps approval ratings among Republicans going from a record high of 85 percent in 2020 to the current 60 percent approval rating, a decline of 25 points.

The riots on Capitol Hill appear to have damaged Trumps approval ratings.
Fifty-two percent say Trump should bear a lot of the blame after his supporters stormed Capitol Hill last week but 47 percent of respondents say that the president deserved a little of the blame or nothing at all.
A wide majority of Americans in the poll also do not want to see Trump continue as a major political figure in the future.

Trump Will Leave Office With His Lowest Approval Rating Ever

Throughout four years of scandals and investigations, President Trump has maintained an approval rating that rarely budged from a 10-point band between 35 and 45 percent. Nothing he could say, do or tweet appeared to dramatically change public opinion of him.
But the events of Jan. 6 when a violent mob of Trump supporters incited by the president stormed the Capitol appear to have damaged him in his final days in office in a way that finally moved the needle.
Mr. Trump is set to depart office on Wednesday with an approval rating of 29 percent, the lowest of his presidency, according to a new poll from the Pew Research Center.
About 75 percent of the public said Mr. Trump bore some responsibility for the violence and destruction of Jan. 6, which put the lives of the vice president and members of Congress at risk and resulted in five deaths, according to the survey.
And his behavior since the election a period during which he has repeatedly tried to contest his loss, relied on conspiracy theorists for advice, encouraged supporters who do not view President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. as legitimate, and refused to concede has cost Mr. Trump support even with those individuals who have loyally supported him up until now.
According to Pew, the share of his supporters who described his conduct as poor has doubled, to 20 percent from 10 percent, over the past two months.

Polls Put Trumps Approval Rating Lower
Despite the recent decline in Biden’s approval, Trump’s ratings were lower during his time in office.
“Biden’s approval rating has clearly taken a turn for the worse in the past several weeks, but he is still faring better than Trump at this point in their presidencies,” Burden said. “Trump had one of the lowest and steadiest approval ratings of any modern president.”
FiveThirtyEight put the polling average for Trump’s approval rating at 38.8% on Sept. 9, 2017, his first year in office. The lowest point of his term came on Dec. 16, 2017, with an average approval rate of 36.4%.
This claim is also wrong looking only at the YouGov poll.
YouGov reported Trumps approval rating never increased far above 40% and reached a term low of 34% in a poll conducted Nov. 10-14, 2017.
In other words, Trump’s low is well below Biden’s current level in YouGov polling.
According to Gallup, Trumps approval rating ranged between 34% and 49% over the course of his presidency. Trump hit the lower end of that range in January, following the insurrection at the Capitol.
United States Presidential Approval Rating
In the United States, presidential job approval ratings were first conducted by George Gallup to gauge public support for the president of the United States during their term. An approval rating is a percentage determined by polling which indicates the percentage of respondents to an opinion poll who approve of a particular person or program. Typically, an approval rating is given to a politician based on responses to a poll in which a sample of people are asked whether they approve or disapprove of that particular political figure. A question might ask: Do you approve or disapprove of the way that the current president is handling their job as president?
Like most surveys that measure opinions, individual poll results may be inaccurate. Many unscientific approval rating systems exist that show inaccurate statistics. Examples that self select, such as online questions are of this type however, the aggregate approval rating is generally accepted by statisticians as a statistically valid indicator of the comparative changes in the popular United States mood regarding a president.

Polling Average Put Bidens Approval Rating Higher Than 39%
Experts say approval ratings should be calculated by looking at an average between polls not a single poll. On the day the claim was made, the polling average for Bidens approval rating was 45.2%.
The best practice to look at multiple polls and not to fixate on an individual poll, which can be cherry-picked to make inaccurate arguments,Barry Burden, director of the Elections Research Center and professor of political science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, said in an email.
The website FiveThirtyEight rates how different polls vary in terms of accuracy and statistical bias. It calculates approval ratings for presidents based on a weighted average that takes into account poll quality and uncertainty.
According to that polling average, Bidens approval rate was 45.2% on the day the claim was posted.
The Facebook post appeared to refer to an Economist/YouGov poll conducted Sept. 4-7. It reported 39% of American adults approved of Biden. YouGov noted this was the first time the majority of Americans disapproved of Biden during his presidency.
However, Burden told USA TODAY this poll was unusually low.

Trump Leaves On A Personal Low Note
The 34% job approval rating for Trump in Gallup’s Jan. 4-15 poll is one point lower than his prior lowest single rating, registered on several occasions in late 2017. The first of these came in August 2017, as Trump was facing intense criticism over his unvarnished threats against North Korean aggression and his response to deadly violence by a white nationalist at a protest in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Between October and December of that year, his approval fell to 35% on three separate occasions as Justice Department officials charged several of Trump’s 2016 campaign figures with crimes in the Russia investigation, including former Trump National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, who pleaded guilty to lying to officials in the investigation in December 2017.
His support fell below 40% in two June 2020 polls amid racial justice protests in response to the death of George Floyd at the hands of police and growing displeasure with his handling of the pandemic. By the time of the 2020 election in which he sought a second term, his support had recovered somewhat, and 46% approved of the job Trump was doing.
Trump is the only president not to register a 50% job approval rating at any point in his presidency since Gallup began measuring presidential job approval in 1938. Likewise, he is the only president who did not have a honeymoon period of above-average ratings upon taking office. His initial 45% job approval rating proved to be his high point for his first year as president.
Trump Is A Barometer For Republican Views Of Supreme Court

The U.S. Supreme Court has been issuing rulings that tend to favor conservatives, but its approval ratings have dropped among Republicans as well as Democrats, according to an analysis by my Reuters colleagues and a recent Gallup poll, both released on July 28.
A year ago, 58% of Americans approved of the court, its highest rating in about 11 years, according to the poll. This year, the courts approval rating dipped to 49%, and a historical gap between Republicans and Democrats narrowed to nothing: Members of both parties have identical approval ratings of 51% .
The courts reputation has taken a hit among Republicans, despite it taking a sharp turn toward the right, both in terms of its membership and decisions.
Former President Donald Trump appointed three new justices since 2017, moving the court further to the right than it had been for decades. Republican approval of the court expectedly surged in Gallups polls after those appointments.
And, a recent Reuters analysis of the courts shadow docket rulings from the past 12 months found that the courts 6-3 conservative majority repeatedly favored religious groups and Trumps administration, while denying almost 100 other emergency applications by private individuals and groups.

Pew Research Center has been tracking views of the U.S. and confidence in the U.S. president over the past 20 years. For this report, we used data from a survey conducted across 33 countries from May 18 to Oct. 2, 2019, totaling 36,923 respondents. The surveys were conducted face-to-face across Africa, Latin America, the Middle East and South Asia and on the phone in North America and the Asia-Pacific. As has been the case throughout his presidency, U.S. President Donald Trump receives largely negative reviews from publics around the world.
