Classified Email On Unclassified Systems

What Everyone Missed In The Donald Trump Jr. Emails | All In | MSNBC

In November 2019, the Daily Beast reported on emails obtained by American Oversight that show former Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley had sent multiple emails containing classified information over an unclassified system because she had lost her password for such protected communications. Those emails, sent shortly after a July 2017 North Korean missile test, contained a number of redactions indicating that the content of fell under the Freedom of Information Acts classified national defense exemption.

Since the 2016 campaigns relentless focus on Clintons email practices seemingly did little to instill Trump appointees with a sense of the importance of their legal obligations or with the recognition that they are not above the law American Oversight is continuing to investigate the Trump administrations record-keeping practices and personal email use.

Lafayette Square Protester Removal And Photo Op

On June 1, 2020, federal law enforcement officials used batons, rubber bullets, pepper spray projectiles, stun grenades, and smoke to remove a largely peaceful crowd of protesters from Lafayette Square, outside the White House. Trump then walked to St. Johnâs Episcopal Church, where protesters had set a small fire the night before he posed for photographs holding a Bible, with senior administration officials later joining him in photos. Trump said on June 3 that the protesters were cleared because âthey tried to burn down the church and almost succeededâ, describing the church as âbadly hurtâ.

Religious leaders condemned the treatment of protesters and the photo opportunity itself. Many retired military leaders and defense officials condemned Trumpâs proposal to use the U.S. military against anti-police brutality protesters. The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General , later apologized for accompanying Trump on the walk and thereby âcreat the perception of the military involved in domestic politicsâ.

Biden White House Has Not Blocked Pat Cipollone From Testifying Source Says

From CNNs Kaitlan Collins

The Biden White House has not stood in the way of Pat Cipollones testimony, a source familiar with the White Houses thinking tells CNN tonight.

That is in line with President Bidens decision not to assert executive privilege over documents or testimony concerning the committees investigation of the extraordinary circumstances surrounding Jan. 6, 2021, the source said.

Liz Cheney, the committees vice chair, made clear at the end of Tuesdays hearing that the committee wants to hear from Cipollone, former President Trumps White House counsel who was present in the West Wing on Jan. 6, 2021. Cipollone sat for an informal interview in April.

Capitol Police Suit For Jan 6 Riots

Blassingame v. Trump, No. 21-cv-00858

Plaintiff: James Blassingame and Sidney Hemby, two Capitol police officers

Case Summary: On Mar. 30, 2021, two Capitol Police Officers sued Donald Trump for injuries they sustained during the Jan. 6 riots in DC. The officersJames Blassingame and Sidney Hembysay they were maced with bear spray, attacked with fists and flagpoles, and even crushed against a door as they tried to protect the Capitol from pro-Trump intruders.

Much like the other Jan. 6 suits against Trump, the officers pin their injuries on Trumps incendiary rhetoric before and during violence. Both allege that Trump directed the rioters to assault them, aided the rioters in committing those assaults, and negligently incited the riot in violation of DCs public safety codes. Blassingame also accuses Trump of directing intentional infliction of emotional distress, pointing to the racial slurs and taunts that the intruders allegedly hurled at him during the violence.

Case Status: The officers filed their suit in DC federal court on Mar. 30, 2021. On Apr. 28, 2021, the plaintiffs added two new conspiracy claims against Trump, one based on the KKK Act and the other on common law conspiracy. They allege that Trump illegally conspired with the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers to storm the Capitol, which in turn caused the plaintiffs injuries.

Update: Donald Trump filed a motion to dismiss on June 24, 2021.

Should Donald Trump Be Prosecuted

Donald Trump

After eight congressional hearings investigating the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol, one thing is clear: there is enough evidence to prosecute Donald Trump on a variety of charges. The committee has the option to refer cases to the Justice Department for prosecution, but such a step is not necessary. The Justice Department could decide to prosecute at any time, on whichever charges for which they find sufficient evidence. Already more than 800 people have been charged in connection with the January 6 eventsalthough most have been charged with lesser crimes. So far only 50 have pleaded guilty to felony charges.

But all along, the issue has been not what the 10,000 people who came to Washington D.C. for the rally knew or even what the 2,000 people who made it inside the Capitol building knew. All along the issue has been what did the president know and what did he intend? Was this a rally that simply got out of control? Or was it the first attempt ever by an American president to stage a coup detat?

If it was an attempted coup, it was a pretty pathetic and incompetent one.

Before Taking Office Trump Used A Samsung Galaxy

Samsungs Galaxy S6 Edge+ shown at Samsung Unpacked on on Aug. 13, 2015 in New York City.

Before he became president, Trump used a Samsung Galaxy smartphone, according to an October 2015 report from The New York Times. The exact model is unknown, but based on an analysis of the few photos out there of Trump using his smartphone, the folks over at Android Central believe it was the Galaxy S3. A photo from February 2016 showed Trump using what appeared to be the same Galaxy S3, which was originally released in 2012, as a presidential candidate.

During the presidential campaign, Data Scientist David Robinson conducted an analysis of the tweets from Trumps Twitter handle , and concluded that posts coming from Trump himself were written on an Android, while those from his handler originated from an iPhone.

Trumps Android-sent Tweets were generally more hyperbolic relying heavily on negative words like badly, crazy and weak to describe his adversaries, according to the study. Trumps iPhone messages, on the other hand, struck a more positive tone.

My analysis concludes that the Android and iPhone tweets are clearly from different people, posting during different times of day and using hashtags, links, and retweets in distinct ways, Robinson wrote. Whats more, we can see that the Android tweets are angrier and more negative, while the iPhone tweets tend to be benign announcements and pictures.

In The 2016 Presidential Campaign Chants Of Lock Her Up Lock Her Up Were Regular Features At Trump Rallies

Soon after FBI agents raided his Mar-a-Lago estate, former President Donald Trump posted a statement decrying the weaponization of the justice system. He called the search political targeting at the highest level, and contrasted what was happening to him with what happened to his 2016 Democratic opponent.

Hillary Clinton was allowed to delete and acid wash 33,000 emails AFTER they were subpoenaed by Congress, Trump said Aug. 8 on his social media platform, Truth Social. Absolutely nothing has happened to hold her accountable.

In the 2016 presidential campaign, chants of lock her up, lock her up were regular features at Trump rallies.

While she was never charged, Clintons use of a private email account for exchanges with her staff during her time as secretary of state drew an FBI investigation.

Now, according to news accounts, the Justice Department is probing Trump and the classified documents he took with him to Mar-a-Lago after he left office. The Justice Department has not responded to questions about the search, so we dont know what if anything was removed from the property.

Trump Still Uses His Personal Cell Phone Despite Warnings And Increased Call Scrutiny

President Donald Trump has continued to use his personal cell phone to make calls, despite repeated warnings from his staff that the practice could leave him vulnerable to foreign surveillance, multiple officials told CNN.

The Democratic impeachment inquiry has resurrected concerns about the security and potential vulnerability of the Presidentâs communications. Witness testimony revealed some top officials repeatedly failed to follow protocol intended to prevent sensitive phone conversations, including those involving the President, from being intercepted by foreign intelligence services.

Several former US officials have told CNN it is highly likely that US Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondlandâs cell phone call to Trump from a restaurant in Ukraine over the summer was picked up by intelligence agencies from numerous foreign countries, including Russia.

Normally, a US ambassador talking to the President would do so from the embassy using a secure line, one former intelligence official told CNN. Cell phones, the former official said, were much more vulnerable than calls made at secure communications facilities.

Congressâ ability to subpoena Giulianiâs call logs from cell phone companies suggests that the calls were not encrypted through an application service like Signal or Whatsapp, nor were the calls were made on a secure line.

President Donald Trump has been handing out his cellphone number to world leaders and urging them to call him directly, an unusual invitation that breaks diplomatic protocol and is raising concerns about the security and secrecy of the U.S. commander in chiefs communications.

Trump has urged leaders of Canada and Mexico to reach him on his cellphone, according to former and current U.S. officials with direct knowledge of the practice. Of the two, only Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has taken advantage of the offer so far, the officials said.

Trump also exchanged numbers with French President Emmanuel Macron when the two spoke immediately following Macrons victory earlier this month, according to a French official, who would not comment on whether Macron intended to use the line.

All the officials demanded anonymity because they were not authorized to reveal the conversations. Neither the White House nor Trudeaus office responded to requests for comment.

Presidents generally place calls on one of several secure phone lines, including those in the White House Situation Room, the Oval Office or the presidential limousine. Even if Trump uses his government-issued cellphone, his calls are vulnerable to eavesdropping, particularly from foreign governments, national security experts say.

Church Service And White House Reception

On the morning of the inauguration, on January 20, after staying the night at the Blair House, the traditional house used by the incoming president-elect due to its proximity to the White House, Trump and his wife, Melania, and Mike Pence and his wife, Karen, attended a church service at St. Johns Episcopal Church. The tradition dates back to James Madison, with every president since then attending the church service the morning of their inauguration. The service was led by Robert Jeffress, a Southern Baptist minister who campaigned for Trump during the election.

After the church service, Trump and his wife went to the White House to meet with President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. The Obamas greeted the Trumps, and Melania presented the couple with a gift. They then posed for photos in front of the White House press corps. The presentation of a gift was a tradition started by Michelle Obama when she presented George W. Bush and Laura Bush with a gift on the day of her husbands inauguration in 2009. Afterward, they held a tea reception inside the White House, along with Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill Biden, and Mike Pence and his wife, Karen Pence. As per tradition, following the meeting between the president and the president-elect, they shared the presidential motorcade limousine, and made their way to the Capitol for the inaugural ceremony.
