An Analysis Of President Donald Trumps Use Of Language

Why are so many US politicians so old? | DW News

04.2018 | Tiffany Markman

Is Trumps unique brand of presidential oratory deliberate and strategic, is it the disjointed output of a disordered mind, or is it something else?

Like him or hate him, President Donald Trump is a unique politician because he doesnt speak like one. In many ways, hes used language to create a brand for himself one that leverages a feeling of strength, a sense of determination, and an impression that he can get the job done.

Sedensky points out that Trumps is a brand of presidential oratory not previously recorded different from what the public come to expect.

Now, is this deliberate and strategic, or are Trumps explosive noun phrases, self-interruptions, departures from the theme, flashes of memory and side remarks symptomatic of a person with a concentration problem?

Lets look at six of the linguistic devices commonly used in Trumpian speech: hyperbole, repetition and intensifiers directness sentence fragments digressions and segues grade level and sales talk.

For or against?

On the one hand, Barton Swaim, one-time speechwriter for former South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford, points out that Trumpian speeches are characterised by broken sentences and bizarre asides.

Theyre not sustained arguments but rather a mishmash of disjointed statements that dont combine into something greater. Are these the output, as many journalists, academics and scientists suggest, of a disordered mind?

What Did He Say About Running For President Again

While speaking to Sean Hannity, Trump said about a potential 2024 run: “I am looking at it very seriously, beyond seriously.

“From a legal standpoint, I don’t really want to talk about it yet.”

As the former president slammed the “rigged” 2020 election at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Sunday, a banner appeared across the Fox News report.

According to Daily Beast, the banner read “THE VOTING SYSTEM COMPANIES HAVE DENIED THE VARIOUS ALLEGATIONS MADE BY PRESIDENT TRUMP AND HIS COUNSEL REGARDING THE 2020 ELECTION.”

CNN reporter Oliver Darcy said the banner was on the screen for around 40 seconds.

What Did Trump Say About Mike Pence

At his protest, Trump pushed VP Pence to “do the right thing” and fight Biden’s win.

“I hope Mike is gonna do the right thing,” Trump said. “I hope so, I hope so, because if Mike Pence does the right thing, we win the election.”

He later said: “Mike Pence has to agree to send it back.”

However, Trump blasted Pence moments after the vice president wrote a letter explaining that he feels as though he does not have the “unilateral authority to decide which electoral votes should be counted,”

“Mike Pence didnt have the courage to do what should have been done to protect our Country and our Constitution, giving States a chance to certify a corrected set of facts, not the fraudulent or inaccurate ones which they were asked to previously certify. USA demands the truth!,” Trump tweeted.

Whos Next Republicans Who Might Go Up Against Trump In 2024

Donald Trumps announcement of a third White House run does not only pose serious questions for the country he divided against itself during his defeat of Hillary Clinton, his four chaotic years in power, his rancorous defeat by Joe Biden and his incitement of the January 6 insurrection.

But Trumps entrance into the race for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024 also poses existential questions for the Republican party itself. Since last weeks midterm elections failed to produce an expected red wave, leaving the Senate in Democratic hands and the House barely under GOP control, the primary landscape has shifted.

Here are seven Republicans who may fancy their chances of beating Trump to set up a White House run and one who might try to stop him winning again:

Trump concluded his speech after an hour.

Among his first campaign promises were a number of reforms that he lacked the authority to do, or realistically just cant do. This includes a vow to pass lifetime bans on lobbying by former members of Congress , a promise to make all drug crimes punishable by death, and another to simply end all homelessness.

Trump has demanded that all votes get tabulated by election day as many of his endorsed, election-denying candidates have also done.

Heres an explainer from my colleagues on why vote counting in the US takes a while:

According to CNN:

The Democratic National Committee seems eager to see Trump launch his candidacy.

Trump Hotels Charged Secret Service More Than Five Times Recommended Government Rate

Opinion

House Oversight Committee Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney detailed the new findings in a letter to Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle on Monday, noting that then-President Trump said federal employees traveling with him would be able to stay in his companys properties for free or at cost.

The exorbitant rates charged to the Secret Service and agents frequent stays at Trump-owned properties raise significant concerns about the former Presidents self-dealing and may have resulted in a taxpayer-funded windfall for former President Trumps struggling businesses, Maloney said.

During his presidency, Trump visited his properties 547 times, including 145 visits to his Mar-a-Lago Club in Florida, the investigation found, citing a study by Citizens for Ethics and Responsibility in Washington. Agents were required to stay at Trump Organization properties in order to protect the president as well as other dignitaries and foreign leaders.

The per diem for Secret Service is usually based on a formula that accounts for the season and location, the committee said, and higher rates are generally scrutinized by the agency.

The Secret Service received authorization for additional flexibility for expenses during protective missions, including per diem expenses above the government rate, Maloney said in her letter to the Secret Service.

What Happened At Capitol Hill On January 6 2021

Vice President Pence was ushered from the Capitol, as the building was put on lockdown, sources told Bloomberg.

Senators began to evacuate the building as cops said tear gas was deployed in the rotunda, Bloomberg reported.

One video shared on social media showed cops using batons as they clashed with demonstrators.

Video showed protesters running across the grass and toward the building in an attempt to occupy it after the fence was broken as some tried to occupy the building.

Trump Slams Ivanka And Denies Saying Pence Deserves To Hang In Truth Social Meltdown

After video showed Ivanka Trump going before the Jan. 6 House committee to say she didnt believe her dads wild theory that the 2020 election was stolen, former President Donald Trump returned the favor by attacking her credibility as a witness.

In a flurry of missives sent via his Truth Social channel early Friday, Trump also denied having agreed with rioters chants to hang Mike Pence andjust for good measurereaffirmed his baseless claim that the election was stolen.

Ivanka told the congressional panel that she had changed her mind about whether or not the election was rigged after William Barr, Trumps attorney general for most of 2020, told her that it wasnt. I respect Attorney General Barr, Ivanka said on the video, So I accepted what he was saying.

The comment seems to have touched a nerve with her father, who rushed to tell his followers that they should pay no mind to what his daughter had said. Ivanka Trump was not involved in looking at, or studying, Election results, the former president wrote. She had long since checked out and was, in my opinion, only trying to be respectful to Bill Barr and his position as Attorney General .

It wasnt just Ivankas testimony that left Trump all hot and bothered.

At the hearing Thursday, Chairman Bennie Thompson directly blamed Trump for the attack on the Capitol after the 2020 election.

The Maga Scene At Mar

Inside his Mar-a-Lago club, hundreds of supporters packed the opulent Grand Ballroom in the hours before Trump took the stage, greeting each other as if gathering for a glitzy reunion. Two Make America Great Again! signs framed the podium while, in the back of the room, dozens of reporters captured the moment.

During his announcement, Trump alluded to the midterm elections a week ago, where the Republican Party did not live up to its expected performance, and a number of Trumps own endorsed candidates in key races lost their elections. While Republicans are on the verge of taking control of the U.S. House of Representatives, Democrats still control the U.S. Senate.

Much criticism is being placed on the fact that the Republican Party shouldve done better and frankly, much of this blame is correct, Trump said. But the citizens of our country have not yet realized the full extent and gravity of the pain our nation is going through they dont quite feel it yet but they will very soon.

He added that, by 2024, it will sadly be much worse.

The voting will be much different in 2024, he predicted.

Trump Claims He Hardly Knows Hutchinson

Donald Trump Says He’s Running For President Again And NSW Flood Crisis Continues

Trump, as he often does with aides and allies with whom he was once close but later turned against him, claimed on Tuesday that he hardly know Hutchinson and personally rejected a request she made to join his post-presidency staff at Mar-a-Lago.

When she requested to go with certain others of my team to Florida after my having served a full term in office, I personally turned her request down, Trump said on Truth Social during Hutchinsons live testimony.

Trump attempted to cast Hutchinsons testimony on Tuesday as revenge, claiming she was very upset and angry that I didnt want her at his Palm Beach residence.

The former Presidents attempt to distance himself from Hutchinson, whom he described as bad news on Tuesday, came after the committee showed renderings of the West Wing to demonstrate just how close she was to the Oval Office as an assistant to Meadows. Multiple former White House aides also publicly vouched for Hutchinsons proximity to Trump and his chief of staff before and during her appearance on Tuesday.

Anyone downplaying Cassidy Hutchinsons role or her access in the West Wing either doesnt understand how the Trump worked or is attempting to discredit her because theyre scared of how damning this testimony is, former White House deputy press secretary Sarah Matthews tweeted.

They are probably risking their careers. Decorated careers, the adviser said.

Trump Running For President Again In 2024 Amid Dipping Popularity Legal Probes

PALM BEACH Donald Trumps presidential announcement Tuesday included the usual rhetorical targets of China, the news media, and President Joe Biden.

One name, however, was conspicuously absent from the former presidents lips: Ron DeSantis.

Saying he wanted to keep the night elegant, Trump refrained from mentioning the Republican widely considered his top rival for the GOP presidential nomination, instead training his ire on the incumbent president who defeated him in 2020 and touting himself as the one Republican capable of restoring the countrys greatness.

In order to make America great and glorious again, I tonight am announcing my candidacy for president of the United States, Trump said inside the opulent Grand Ballroom of his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach. Americas comeback starts right now.

Trumps decision reopens a tumultuous chapter in American politics, one in which Trumps fans adored his blunt style but critics felt he tore at the countrys social fabric criticism that, along with concerns over his response to the coronavirus pandemic and the 2020 George Floyd racial justice protests, ultimately undermined his reelection campaign.

What Did Trump Say In His Maga Protest Speech Today In Washington

For the second consecutive day, MAGA fans rolled into Washington DC in their continued support of Trump and his baseless claims of a rigged election.

“We’ll never give up. We’ll never concede,” Trump said. “We will not take it anymore.”

Trump insisted: “This was not a close election.”

He later questioned: “Does anybody really believe Joe had 80million votes?”

Despite the baseless claims from Trump and his supporters, election official have repeatedly said there’s zero evidence of fraud that would have altered the election results.

Trump then slammed late-night vote counting the presidential election as “explosions of bulls***.”

Get Insights Into Florida Politics

Trump begins the presidential race, according to most data, in the pole position, leading all of his competitors but falling short of an outright majority of support from Republican voters at this early stage.

A survey from Politico/Morning Consult released this week, for instance, found him winning 47% in a hypothetical GOP primary.

DeSantis was the next closest competitor, receiving 33% support.

Trumps declaration comes against the backdrop of his continued refusal to accept the results of the 2020 election, which he lost, insisting without evidence that Biden stole the race from him. Trumps repeated claims culminated on Jan. 6, 2021, when a group of his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol and forced lawmakers to evacuate the building, temporarily halting the elections certification process.

The incident led 10 House Republicans to join Democrats in impeaching the then-president, the second time he had been impeached in four years. The Senate voted to acquit Trump in both cases.

Trumps announcement also comes three months after the FBI executed a search-and-seizure operation at Trumps Mar-a-Lago home, the site of his announcement Tuesday, related to his handling of classified documents.

During his speech, Trump reiterated his longstanding view that he is the target of a coordinated conspiracy among government and law enforcement officials to undermine his presidency.

Reporter: Do You Think Race Relations Have Gotten Better Since Youve Taken Office President Trump: I Think Theyve Gotten Better

Trump: My Idea to Inject Disinfectant Was Prank on Reporters

Border walls, massive increases in deportations and muslim bans. To top it all off, groups of white nationalists who would never dare show their faces in public now have a President that will not condemn them unless pressed by the rest of the public. Seems to me like race relations are in a nosedive.

What Did Donald Trump Say In His Cpac Speech

During his CPAC speech, former President Donald Trump accused of “election meddling,” slammed big tech, and repeated his unsubstantiated claims that the 2020 election was stolen from him.

He also blasted Democrats and tech giants throughout his speech, which lasted well over an hour.

He said: The radical lefts attack on free speech is unlawful, unconstitutional, and un-American.”

He criticized tech giants like , Facebook, and , all of which he announced he is suing earlier this week.

Trump said: They want to take everybody down. They go too far. Theyre like a spoiled child.”

Trump slammed the Joe Biden administration for its handling of the immigration crisis.

He claimed that “illegal immigrants are being resettled around our cities and towns at the taxpayer’s expense”.

Trump added: “When I was president, illegal alien criminals knew that if they crossed our border, they would be caught, they would be detained and sent to jail, or we would send them the hell back to where they came from.

“Biden’s border crisis is also helping drive an unprecedented crime wave.”

He called CPAC the “greatest political movement in the history of our country”.

He said: “You never stopped fighting for me, and I will never stop fighting for you.”

Greed And Cheating: Prosecutor Outlines Tax Fraud Allegations Against Trump Organization

Opening arguments began Monday in the high-profile criminal tax fraud case against the Trump Organization, the former president’s family-run company that helped make him a household name.

This case is about greed and cheating, prosecutor Susan Hoffinger told jurors in her opening statement about what she alleged was a “clever scheme.”

Two corporations that are a part of the company, Trump Corp. and Trump Payroll Corp., “paid their already highly paid executives even more by cheating on their taxes,” Hoffinger said.

Donald Trump is listed as a possible witness in the trial in New York, where prosecutors will argue that the company he ran for decades engaged in a 15-year scheme to compensate top executives off the books to help them and the company avoid paying taxes.

Trump, who hasnt been charged with any wrongdoing, has blasted the investigation as a politically motivated witch hunt.

Presiding over the case, acting New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan told potential jurors last week that in addition to the former president, his three oldest children Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump and Eric Trump could be called as witnesses. All three have held key positions at the company.

Supreme Court is the name of New Yorks highest trial court.

No one else has been charged.

Referring to Weisselberg, Hoffinger told the jury that “for 35 years he reported directly to Donald Trump.” He had “signatory authority for bank accounts,” she said.
