What drives Donald Trump | Maggie Haberman

Krystal L. Williams, an assistant professor at the University of Alabama College of Education who has studied federal funding of H.B.C.U.s, points to publicly available data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System on this matter. The data suggest an increase of about 6 percent in federal appropriations, grants and contracts from the 2016-2017 academic year to 2017-2018, the most recent year for which such data is available.

Trump Signed The Biggest Wilderness Protection & Conservation Bill In A Decade And Designated 375000 Acres As Protected Land

This is misleading. While Mr. Trump did sign the John D. Dingell Jr. Conservation, Management and Recreation Act of 2019, he has stripped protections from far more land than he has preserved. Most notably, he removed some two million acres in Utah that had been part of the Bears Ears National Monument and the Grand Staircase-Escalante in Utah. According to a study published in May 2019 in Science, Mr. Trump is responsible for the largest reduction in the boundaries of protected land in U.S. history.

Judicial And National Security

President Donald Trump took drastic measures to bring security and a peace of mind back to every American. Trump remade the Federal Judiciary with record setting appointments, fixed our broken immigration system, stopped ISIS in their tracks and brought troops home from around the globe.

Rebalanced refugee assistance to focus on overseas resettlement and burden-sharing.

Calvin Taylor Story Inspiring

In 1970-71, Kennedy and Riviera Beach High Schools combined to become Suncoast High School. I was the young white teacher who took over Calvin Taylor’s classes mid year when he became Race Relations Counselor on campus. His description of himself in the Accent article is so true. As an introduction to reading A Raisin in the Sun, I talk with my students about integration in Palm Beach County and always include stories of Calvin Taylor. Thank you for your example. Faculty members learned lessons from you, too.

Remember The Oath People

To all of those elected officials who continue to follow the disgraced ex-president, I ask them to check their oath of office. As an ex-military person, I carry oath in my wallet. When I get weary I pull it out and read it: “I do solemnly swear to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.” Nothing more is needed.

Trumps Accomplishments Were Many

CBC News: The National | Pakistan relief, Credit card fees, Trump biography

On Feb. 1, 2020, Joe Biden stated, We are in the midst of a crisis with the coronavirus. We need to lead the way with science, not Donalds Trumps record of hysteria, xenophobia and fear-mongering. He is the worst possible person to lead our country through a global health emergency.

Trump further diminished the United States in the eyes of the world by expanding his travel ban. This new African Ban is designed to make it harder for Black and brown people to immigrate to the United States. Its a disgrace and we cannot let him succeed.

Due to Obama and Biden Administration, President Trump lacked sufficient ventilators to help treat COVID-19 virus patients. He asked for help from corporations, businesses, military, medical field, scientists, etc. United States citizens brought out their talents providing aide and items needed.

In December 2020, Dr. Qanta Ahmed, Pulmonologist, at NYU Langone stated, It is remarkable America is the first country in the world to first vaccinate its populations with COVID-19 virus. Incredible when President Trump said vaccine deliveries may start next week.

On Nov. 27, 2021, Biden declared new travel restrictions due to the new omicron COVID variant to Namiba, Mozambique, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho and South Africa effective Nov. 29, 2021.

The First Step Act Provides Rehabilitative Programs To Inmates Helping Them Successfully Rejoin Society And Not Return To Crime

It is true that the First Step Act calls for the Bureau of Prisons to significantly expand these opportunities, but because of a lack of funding, around 25 percent of people who spend more than a year in federal prison have not completed any program, according to the Brennan Center for Justice, which backed the bill.

Let The Space Shuttle Die And Killed The Planned Moon Mission

List of Donald Trump

Allowed the expensive , badly designed, and dangerous shuttle program to make its final launch on July 8, 2011. Cut off funding for the even more bloated and problem-plagued Bush-era Constellation program to build a moon base in favor of support for private-sector low-earth orbit ventures, research on new rocket technologies for long-distance manned flight missions, and unmanned space exploration, including the largest interplanetary rover ever launched, designed to investigate Marss potential to support life.

Under His Leadership Isis Has Lost Most Of Its Territory And Been Largely Dismantled

American-led strikes against the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq began in 2014, predating the Trump administration. In 2018, Mr. Trump claimed in a tweet that ISIS had been defeated and ordered a withdrawal of U.S. troops within 30 days. He eventually gave military leaders more time after their objections. By 2019, the Islamic State had lost nearly all of its territory, but the group remains a threat.

Job Creation & Unemployment

  • On August 6, 2020, President Trump signed an Executive Order Ensuring that Essential Medical Supplies are Produced in the United States This executive order is increasing the American production of essential medical supplies and is cutting down the United States’ reliance on foreign producers of medicines. This order will support American jobs by accelerating the domestic manufacturing of essential medicines, medical countermeasures, as well as their critical inputs, and ensuring long-term demand for those products. By relocating medical supply chains back to the United States, Trump is ending foreign reliance and making sure that the U.S. has the resources necessary to respond to public health emergencies and security threats. Donald Trumps Costly Legacy

History will judge the Trump presidency to have been a consequential one, but more for its destructive effects than for its achievements.

Current political and economic issues succinctly explained.

We can finally state with confidence that US President Donald Trump will leave the White House, however reluctantly, on January 20. As his four years in office come to an end, it is not too soon to raise the question of how he will be viewed.

History will judge Trump to have been a consequential US president, in that he left America and the world much changed. He will also be seen as one of the worst, if not the worst ever.

    More on:

True, Trump did accomplish some useful things. Domestically, he pushed policies a cut to the too-high corporate tax rate the easing of some overly burdensome regulations that appear to have contributed to robust economic growth. In foreign policy, he deserves credit for moving the US policy vis-à-vis an increasingly repressive, powerful, and assertive China in a more sober, critical direction. He was also right to provide defensive arms to Ukraine, given that part of that country is under Russian occupation.

    Great Healthcare For Americans

“Confidence Man”: Maggie Haberman on Donald Trump

Empowered American patients by greatly expanding healthcare choice, transparency, and affordability.

Issued unprecedented reforms that dramatically lowered the price of prescription drugs.

    • Lowered drug prices for the first time in 51 years.
    • Launched an initiative to stop global freeloading in the drug market.
    • Finalized a rule to allow the importation of prescription drugs from Canada.
    • Finalized the Most Favored Nation Rule to ensure that pharmaceutical companies offer the same discounts to the United States as they do to other nations, resulting in an estimated $85 billion in savings over seven years and $30 billion in out-of-pocket costs alone.
    • Proposed a rule requiring federally funded health centers to pass drug company discounts on insulin and Epi-Pens directly to patients.
    • Ended the gag clauses that prevented pharmacists from informing patients about the best prices for the medications they need.
    • Ended the costly kickbacks to middlemen and ensured that patients directly benefit from available discounts at the pharmacy counter, saving Americans up to 30 percent on brand name pharmaceuticals.
    • Enhanced Part D plans to provide many seniors with Medicare access to a broad set of insulins at a maximum $35 copay for a months supply of each type of insulin.
    • Reduced Medicare Part D prescription drug premiums, saving beneficiaries nearly $2 billion in premium costs since 2017.
    • Ended the Unapproved Drugs Initiative, which provided market exclusivity to generic drugs.

Stock Market Has Reached Record Highs

The highest closing record of the Dow Jones industrial average, the index of 30 top U.S. companies, was reached in February, after investors appeared to be encouraged that the trade wars initiated by Mr. Trump were being resolved. Recent interest-rate cuts in 2019 also contributed. This March, the Dow fell a record 2,013.76 points to 23,851.02, after it became clear that the U.S. economy would lock down because of the pandemic. That drop was followed by two more record-setting point drops.

What Has President Trump Accomplished A Lot

His achievements span everything from the economy to diversity and second chances.

    JOBS & THE ECONOMY

President Trump took office in the aftermath of the Obama/Biden malaise. Experts repeatedly told us that mediocre economic growth was the new normal. President Trump rejected that mindset and enacted policies that would make America great again.

    • President Trump enacted the first serious tax reform legislation in decades.
    • Tax rates were cut across the board.
    • The standard deduction was doubled.
    • The per child tax credit was doubled.
    • Small business owners were allowed to deduct 20% of their business income.
    • Corporate tax rates were slashed from 35% to 21%.
    • The Trump Administration cut 8 old regulations for every new one issued, removing 25,000 pages from the Federal Register.
    • President Trump renegotiated NAFTA, renegotiated the trade deal with South Korea, and withdrew from the job-killing Paris Climate Accord.

    The U.S. economy took off.

Of course, the coronavirus pandemic created unprecedented economic disruptions this year. The Trump Administration took quick action to combat the virus and boost our economy.

  • Trump issued executive orders to streamline the vaccine process and launched Operation Warp Speed to produce 300 million doses of a vaccine in record time, hopefully by the end of the year, if not sooner.
  • Trump invoked the Defense Protection Act to facilitate the emergency production of 200,000 ventilators and the acquisition of personal protective equipment.

    Failure: The Us Economy

Trump often took credit for the robust US economy before the pandemic, ignoring that much of the growth began during the Obama administration.

The US faced one of the worst economic crises in its history under Trump, which was intrinsically linked to his disastrous response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Coronavirus lockdowns in early 2020 and reduced consumer spending led to tens of millions of job losses as whole segments of the economy sputtered. The economy has since begun adding back jobs, but is far from a full recovery as the US struggles to contain the coronavirus and Biden takes over.

Roughly 22 million jobs were lost from February to April. Though nearly half of those jobs have been recovered, the unemployment rate is still at 7.9% . The pre-pandemic unemployment rate was 3.4%.

As Trump left office, the US national debt was at the highest levels since World War II. And US economic growth was set to average just above 0% for Trump’s first term because of the pandemic recession, according to The Washington Post.

Though the economy is still far from recovered, Trump also failed to bring Congress together to pass a second coronavirus stimulus package prior to Election Day as Americans across the country struggled to cover rent and other bills. The GOP-controlled Senate instead prioritized confirming Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, essentially placing the economy and the livelihoods of Americans on the back-burner.
