Patriots Vs Raiders Takeaways: A Fitting Ending To An Ugly Pats Loss

Dinner Cruise from Patriots Point Charleston, SC

Patriots-Raiders takeaways: A fitting ending to an ugly Pats loss originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

There are devastating losses, and then there’s what the New England Patriots experienced Sunday in Las Vegas.

The Patriots were on the verge of 8-6 as they held a seven-point lead with 32 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. That’s when Raiders quarterback Derek Carr launched a 30-yard pass caught in the end zone caught by Keelan Cole, whose foot appeared to be just barely out of bounds.

However, upon further review, officials ruled Cole’s catch as a touchdown. You be the judge on that one.

A controversial call, to say the least.

The Raiders tied it at 24 with their extra point and the Patriots had 30 seconds to either win it or send it to overtime. They did neither. Disaster struck on the game’s final play as Jakobi Meyers’ last-ditch lateral was intercepted by ex-Patriots star Chandler Jones, who returned it for the game-winning TD.

What just happened?? The @Raiders win on the final play!! #NEvsLV

NFL

The 30-24 loss has significant postseason implications for the Patriots as they now find themselves outside of the AFC playoff picture with three regular-season games remaining.

Here are our takeaways from a wild one at Allegiant Stadium. Next up for the Patriots is a must-win matchup vs. the Cincinnati Bengals at Gillette Stadium.

Patriots Point Dinner Cruise

What a great time The volunteers who work at Patriots Point Naval Museum had our annual dinner cruise with Spirtline Cruises. Just about 130 volunteers and wife’s attended. It couldn’t have been any better. The food and service was awesome. We had a choice of Seafood, Pork, or steaks. Everyone enjoyed the evening.

Seating location was terrible my view was directly into bathroom every time the womens bathroom door was opened, I had bright light directly in my line of vision. Our table should never had been positioned there. Trying to maximize seating capacity at expense of customer experience.Food was typical rubber chicken you would expect at low budget banquet. Only one soup option was provided: she crab. Since I dont eat crab meat, I was provided with bowl of mushy, obviously barely defrosted fruit which was unsatisfying. The green salad was minimally adequate. The mashed potatoes were salty. Green beans were okay, but again, hardly outstanding given the price. Service was only adequate felt hurried and perfunctory. No narration was given as to sights to be noted and, although I am a local, it would have been appreciated. It mostly felt as though we were going aimlessly in the dark to kill time, ending up back at dock at 9:15pm rather than 9:30 as advertised. All in all, a very disappointing experience. I will not take visitors on this dinner cruise again. Overpriced and over promised!

Patriots fans and Rhamondre Sevenson fantasy owners no longer have to worry about the second-year running back’s ankle injury. He returned to action Sunday and picked up right where he left off.

Stevenson had 19 carries for 172 yards, including a 34-yard touchdown that gave the Patriots a lead with 3:43 left in the game.

Meyers Explains His Intent On Costly Play In Patriots’ Loss To Raiders

It’s a little ridiculous that a league like the NFL would not have better camera angles for the end zone, considering many of the most important plays in every game happen in that area of the field.

The Patriots’ final possession of the game resulted in a botched lateral attempt by Stevenson and Meyers that led to a Chandler Jones touchdown and a 30-24 win for the Raiders. It was one of the most stunning plays in a long time.

There were a lot of plays/factors that cost the Patriots a win Sunday. This review on the Cole touchdown was among the most notable ones.

East Beaver Creek & Yonge Street

East Beaver Creek is home to the citys Town Hall along with the headquarters of several multinational corporations. This is one of the few areas in Richmond Hill that is very urban-like in its architectural development and overall layout. Yonge Street, as many know, is considered to be one of the largest streets in the world. A portion of this street runs directly through Richmond Hill, and is home to several old churches.

Edelman Has Angry Reaction To Patriots’ Shocking Loss Vs Raiders

The Raiders punted on their ensuing possession, which was followed by the Patriots going 3-and-out and punting on their next possession.

Las Vegas, as a result, got the ball back with 2:11 left on the clock on its own 19-yard line. Eight plays later, the Raiders got all the way to the Patriots’ 30-yard line. On a second-and-10 play with 32 seconds left, Raiders quarterback Derek Carr threw a deep pass that was caught by wide receiver Keelan Cole in the back left corner of the end zone.

The ruling on the field was a completed catch and a touchdown. But the replay angles made it look like Cole’s left foot/toes clearly hit the white sideline as he was landing. The play was reviewed, and to the surprise of many people, the call stood as a touchdown.

Here’s a video of the play and a still shot of Cole’s left toe appearing to hit the sideline.

If this game is not flexed to Sunday afternoon, this is overturned with a shot from the NBC pylon camera. I really think the evidence is clear and obvious, but we have seen calls like this stand before.

Patriots players past and present were also surprised at the review decision:

That was not no damn td

James White

NFL Senior VP of Officiating Walt Anderson told ESPN’s Mike Reiss that “there was nothing that was clear and obvious that foot was touching the white.”

Did Nfl Screw Up Review Of Late Raiders Touchdown In Game Vs Patriots

Did NFL screw up review of late Raiders touchdown in game vs. Patriots? originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

The New England Patriots lost to the Las Vegas Raiders on one of the craziest plays in NFL history, but you could make a strong case that the visiting team at Allegiant Stadium never should have been in that position in the first place.

The Patriots went up 24-17 with 3:43 remaining in the fourth quarter when Rhamondre Stevenson ran 38 yards for a touchdown and Jakobi Meyers caught a pass for the 2-point conversion.

Pats Defense Can’t Bail Out Inept Offense

Yet again, Mac Jones and the Patriots couldn’t get much of anything going in the passing game.

No matter how much Jones despises the quick game, Matt Patricia insists on sticking with it. The Patriots’ offensive game plan consisted almost entirely of screens and quick passes near the line of scrimmage.

When Jones threw it downfield, the results weren’t a whole lot better. He was inaccurate for most of the day and the numbers show it as he finished just 13-of-31 for 112 yards and zero TDs .

Safety Kyle Dugger did his best to pick up the slack. He got the second half started with a pick-six that gave the Patriots much-needed momentum.

The short-handed secondary, missing cornerbacks Jalen Mills and Jack Jones, did a fantastic job keeping Davante Adams and the Raiders wideouts in check. Rookie swiss army knife Marcus Jones stepped up and played a big role in the unit’s success.

The Patriots defense tallied three sacks — one from Ja’Whaun Bentley and halves from Christian Barmore, Davon Godchaux, Lawrence Guy, and Josh Uche. It was a quiet day from Matt Judon, who didn’t make an appearance on the stat sheet.
