Prop 2: Funding Arts And Music Education

The League strongly supports a high-quality public education system in California. Because of a variety of voter-supported initiatives which limit and prescribe state and local spending, California does not provide the level of financial support for its schools that the League considers adequate. This proposition would provide additional financial resources , specifically for music and arts education.

San Diego County Sheriff

Undersheriff Kelly Martinez, second in command at the San Diego County Sheriffs Department, led in the primary with 37.5% of the vote. She has the backing of former three-term Sheriff Bill Gore as well as much of the political establishment, including four of the five county supervisors. If elected, she would be the countys first female sheriff.

Martinez faces former city prosecutor John Hemmerling, a Republican who received 20.4% of the vote in June. Hemmerling drew controversy over comments critical of transgender women, and resigned from the city in May. He has since been endorsed by retired sheriffs commander Dave Myers, who came in third in the primary.

The Impact Of Growth Patterns

It would also be a mistake to settle on simple explanations for the shift in San Diegos electoral map, Clumpner said. The regions demographics and growth patterns play a significant role.

For example, areas like Mira Mesa and Mission Valley have built more dense housing in the past decade, which draws in residents who are more likely to be lower income and younger. Those voters are less likely to be Republican, he said.

That changes the issues that they care about and how they live their lives, like their access to public transit, the proximity to jobs, how close they are to their neighbors, Clumper said. In a different environment, the same voters might be behaving in a different way because they would care about different issues.

Clumpner also points to how the shift from red to blue has largely been driven by voters in northern coastal areas. Since 2004, Carlsbad, La Jolla, Del Mar, Oceanside and Rancho Santa Fe have all seen drops in Republican registrations.

They have always been more moderate areas, but I think issues like climate change and in particular the Trump era and how polarizing it was really pushed those areas to be much more staunchly Democratic than they were before, he said.

However, he said, those areas can still skew conservative on local issues concerning housing and transportation.

Meanwhile, Kousser said local politics can be like the weatherif you dont like it, just wait awhile and it will change.

You can cast your ballot or drop off you main in ballot at one of the more than 200 vote centers across the county.

Theyre open from 8 until 5 today.

Tomorrow theyll be open from 7 in the morning until 8 at night when the polls close.

If you plan to mail in your ballot, it must be postmarked by tomorrow.

The Bexar County Executive Committee is composed of the County Chair, Vice Chair and Precinct Chairs. The County Chair and Precinct Chairs are elected by popular vote at the Republican Primary Election held in March of each even-numbered year. Voters residing in each of the countys voting precincts elect their respective Precinct Chairs. Officers are either elected or appointed according to CEC bylaws. Ex officio members of the CEC include the SREC members of the countys SDs and appointed Party officers. In even number years, Senatorial District Conventions are held in Bexar County to elect Delegates to the Republican Party of Texas state convention and to pass resolutions that may be included in RPT platform.

Prop 2: Kidney Dialysis Clinics Requirements

This measure would require operators of chronic dialysis clinics to have a minimum of one licensed physician, nurse practitioner, or physician’s assistant at a clinic whenever patients are being treated, offer the same level of care to all patients regardless of how payment is being made, and make reports about dialysis-related infections to the states health department, in addition to submitting federal agency reports containing the same information. Consent of the California Department of Public Health would be required prior to any clinics closure or reduction of hours of operation.

Many Demographic Traits Of Likely Voters Differ Across Parties

• Independents and Democrats are more likely to be young adults than are Republicans , while Republicans are more likely to be age 55 and older than are Democrats or independents .
• Democratic likely voters are much more likely to be women than men , while independents are much more likely to be men than women Republicans are more evenly divided.
• Independents and Democrats are much more likely to be college graduates than are Republicans .
• About one in four Democrats have household incomes under $40,000, compared to about two in ten Republicans and independents .

Most Independent Likely Voters Lean Toward A Major Party

• In surveys over the past year, independent likely voters have been more likely to lean Democratic than Republican 11% did not lean toward either party.
• These shares have shifted since 2018, when 43% leaned Democratic, 29% leaned Republican, and 28% did not lean toward either party.
• Independent likely voters are much more likely to be moderate than liberal or conservative .
• Overall, about three in four Republican likely voters say they are conservative, while 63% of Democratic likely voters describe themselves as liberal. Conversely, only 9% of Democrats label themselves as conservative, while just 4% of Republicans call themselves liberal.

San Diego County Board Of Supervisors

In District 2, which includes much of East County south of Route 78, two Republicans are vying to succeed legendary Supervisor Dianne Jacob, who is termed out after 28 years. Former state Sen. Joel Anderson is seeking a political comeback after losing a Board of Equalization race in the 2018 Democratic wave. His opponent is Steve Vaus, the well-know musician who is currently Mayor of Poway and who has Jacobs endorsement. Vaus earned high marks for his community leadership as national attention focused on Poway following the synagogue shooting in 2019. Anderson is endorsed by the San Diego County Republican Party, but Vaus has high-profile Republican endorsements from San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and Sheriff Bill Gore.

State Sen. Ben Hueso, who is termed out, was a late entrant in the race to succeed Supervisor Greg Cox in District 1 in south county, but led in the March primary. He is a former member of the state Assembly and the San Diego City Council. He faces Southwestern Community College board member Nora Vargas. Both candidates are Democrats.

General Election: San Diego County Voter Guide

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA While many San Diego County voters have already cast their mail-in ballots and returned them, some will venture out to vote centers on Tuesday to either mark their ballots or hand them in for counting.

In cities across the county, voters will decide on local measures and races for city councils, mayors, the Board of Supervisors, State Senate, State Assembly and U.S. Congress. Voters will also weigh in on the County Board of Education, school district boards, college governing boards, community services and water districts, among other races.

San Diego County has 1.95 million registered voters, according to the County Registrar of Voters. More than one-third of the county’s registered voters had already voted in the election by Oct. 26, the Registrar of Voters reported.

According to California Secretary of State Alex Padilla’s office, statewide, there are 21.2 million registered voters, an increase of 800,000 since the primary in March.

Prop : Reproductive Freedom

A recent decision by the U.S. Supreme Court held that the U.S. Constitution does not protect the right to abortion. While access to abortion is no longer federally protected and is under attack across the country, we can safeguard access in California. Proposition 1 will amend the California Constitution to enshrine the fundamental right to choose an abortion, use or refuse contraceptives , and make individual decisions on reproductive health. These rights are consistent with existing state laws and our state constitutional rights to privacy and equal protection.

San Diego City Attorney

Incumbent is being challenged by public advocacy lawyer Cory Briggs, who accuses the incumbent of incompetence and has proposed eliminating the office to save money. Briggs has made a name for himself with a series of high-profile lawsuits against public agencies. Elliott, a former deputy city attorney, emphasizes her efforts to combat domestic violence and sex trafficking, but has been accused of lack of oversight in the purchases of 101 Ash Street and new streetlights with video cameras for police surveillance. Elliott has widespread official support, from the local Democratic Party to the police union and the Chamber of Commerce, while Briggs is running as an outsider, promising a taxpayers-first approach to the office.

Prop : Yes Or No To Banning Flavored Tobacco Products

In 2020, California passed a law banning the in-person sale of flavored tobacco products, like candy-avored e-cigarettes and menthol cigarettes, at stores and vending machines. Sellers violating the law would be subject to criminal misdemeanor prosecution. A YES vote on Prop 31 is a vote to keep the ban in place. More than two million middle and high school students in the U.S. use e-cigarettes which deliver large doses of addictive nicotine. In California, 96 percent of high school e-cigarette users choose flavored products.

State Assembly District 76

The San Diego Union-Tribune recently e-mailed a series of questions to candidates running for State Assembly District 76, which includes Carlsbad, Oceanside, Encinitas and Vista. Incumbent Democratic Assemblywoman Tasha Boerner Horvath is challenged by Republican Melanie Burkholder, who did not respond to this survey after several requests.

Do you believe Californians deserve more opportunities to gamble, specifically with wagering over the outcome of sporting events? If so, these are for you. Prop. 26 favors existing Indian casinos by requiring that sports betting to take place there or at racetracks, while Prop. 27 permits betting both in casinos and online via companies like FanDuel, DraftKings and BetMGM. If youre against more gambling, then voting no on both preserves the status quo.

San Diego City Council

Incumbent City Council members Jen Campbell, Monica Montgomery-Steppe and Vivian Moreno are up for re-election in Districts 2, 4 and 8, but only in Campbells case is there anything but token opposition. Both Montbomery-Steppe and Moreno polled over 60% in the primary.

Campbell, a physician who is backed by Mayor Todd Gloria, the Chamber of Commerce and much of the Democratic Party establishment, has been under fire from neighborhood activists for her efforts to find a compromise on short-term rentals and her support for redeveloping the dilapidated Midway District. She faced numerous challengers in the primary, but led with 29.8% of the vote to Republican real estate agent Linda Lukacs 25.4%.

The District 6 seat is open, with former radio personality and environmental activist Tommy Hough and nonprofit director Kent Lee vying to succeed Chris Cate. Hough, who serves as a county planning commissioner, has been actively campaigning for the position for several years. Lee, who led in the primary by 40.7% to 37.1%, has the support of the chamber.
