Patriots Vs Eagles Preseason Game

Don't Miss

Matt Judon Is A Force

New England Patriots vs. Philadelphia Eagles | Preseason Week 2 2021 NFL Game Highlights

Simply put, Judon has been all over the place for the Patriots defense this summer and he made another immediate impact against the Eagles, getting in on the botched snap that helped Jalen Mills recover the fumble for New England, then getting another pressure two possessions later that forced a punt. Judon’s energy and physical play on the edge figures to be a huge part of the Patriots defense this season after he arrived signing a four-year deal this summer.

As a whole, the first-team defense forced a fumble and two straight punts before the team began to rotate in more players, but the performance did come against Joe Flacco and not Jalen Hurts, who was a thorn in their side during joint practices.

And again, pitching a shutout is something everyone on defense can feel pretty good about.

Can Nkeal Harry Step Up

Harry played the most offensive snaps of every Patriots receiver againste Washington last week, but finished with just one reception on only one target for four yards. Thats not what you want to see from the 2019 first-round pick. Its probably disappointing for all parties at this point.

Harry has looked dominant at times in training camp, but he needs to put it together during a game. This is Year 3 for the receiver. There are no more growing pains. Its time for Harry to dominate in the preseason. Can he do it against Philadelphia? If the Patriots are going to receive anything of value from Harry, the receiver needs to play better.

Observations:N’Keal Harry is sticking out in Patriots training camp. Will he stay around?

Why The Eagles Lost

Well, for one, they started Flacco at QB, thanks to Jalen Hurts coming down with a last-minute illness. The vet started his night by chasing down an errant snap and ended it with just 86 yards on 17 throws. Nick Mullens, the No. 3, was even worse, dancing around in the pocket while trailing by 30-plus. Aside from DeVonta Smith, who got consistent separation in his anticipated debut, no one really popped on the Eagles offense. The “D” wasn’t much better, with rookie Milton Williams maybe the lone standout on a night when other young backups like Zech McPhearson struggled to keep up in pass defense.

Cam Newtons Arm Looks Healthy

This certainly doesnt appear to be the 2020 version of Newton. No, this Newton has an arm not fighting tooth and nail to survive attached to his shoulder. He is back to slinging the ball, showing off the arm strength he once so effortlessly possessed.

Yet, it wasnt just the velocity that shined against the Eagles. Newton was also accurate, and he wasnt tiptoeing around the line of scrimmage, either. He completed 8 of 9 passes, averaging 11.4 yards per attempt both impressive marks. Additionally, Newton flashed with his legs and pocket maneuverability.

Sure, evading defensive linemen is a cerebral process as much as it is physical. But his feet were smooth, and his escape plans were flawless. He effortlessly ghosted multiple rushers on the night on his way to delivering accurate passes.

After two days of joint practice together the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles will put on actual uniforms and move over to Lincoln Financial Field for both squads second exhibition game.

In the olden days when teams played four preseason games, theyd use the third one as the primary dress rehearsal for regulars while leaving the fourth one as a final audition for fringe players attempting to make the end of the roster while the projected starters watched.

After no preseason last year, there are just three games before they start counting in 2021. Will this be the last time the New England regulars play until the opener against Miami? Could be.

Rhamondre Stevenson Is Winning The Preseason

Stevenson is the top performer so far in the 2021 NFL preseason, and its unlikely anyone catches up to him anytime soon. For a second straight week, he walks away with a multi-touchdown game.

Stevenson wowed people with his 91-yard TD scamper in his preseason debut. He ran for 127 yards on 10 carries and added another rushing touchdown against Washington. Somehow, he was even more impressive in the Patriots vs. Eagles game.

His feet are like lightning for a 230-plus pound running back. He makes much smaller defenders miss. His frame and explosiveness make him a difficult body to get to the ground. Defenders have to come with a bit of inertia to tackle him, which makes it easier for him to fool defenders in space.

Stevenson is also proving he can bring the thunder. Multiple times against the Eagles, he drug, drove, and shed tacklers on his way to creating yards after contact.

He fumbled in the fourth quarter, so theres a chance we never see him again Belichick hates fumbles. But what Stevenson flashed on the field was incredibly entertaining.

New England Patriots Vs Philadelphia Eagles Betting Analysis

  • Venue: Lincoln Financial Field
  • Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  • TV-Time: NFL – 7:30 p.m. ET

With handicapping preseason games the two biggest things you need to focus on are playing time and depth. How long are coaches gonna play their starters and how good are these teamsâ second and third units? The Patriots have shown, at least in game 1, that the depth is definitely there. Cam Newton will once against start the game off but the real star of the show for Patriots backers will be rookie first-round pick Mac Jones who completed 13/19 passes for 97 yards along with an 82.0 passer rating in his debut, which leads all rookies. This means that when both teams start pulling their starters, the Patriots will be putting in their future starting quarterback to get him as much usage as possible.

On the Eagles side of the ball, I expect Jalen Hurts to get a longer leash this time around after a somewhat uninspiring preseason debut. Every single quote out of NFL insiders seems to be indicating that the respect for Hurts goes up on a daily basis and heâs truly a winner over the locker room. I think the Eagles first squad is actually gonna take off to an early lead but when it becomes a battle of depth and the end of the roster Iâm siding with the Patriots. I think this will actually be a really close game but when it boils down to future franchise quarterback Mac Jones vs Veteran backup Joe Flacco ill side with the up and comer.

Yeah, it’s a preseason game, and yeah, the Eagles’ players that matter played a hell of a lot better during joint practices between these two teams this week, but they still got their asses handed to them, which isn’t ideal.

  • The lost 35-0, as you saw.
  • They got outgained, 486-163.
  • The Pats had 31 first downs to the Eagles’ 14.
  • Eh, I could keep going, but whatever.

    Loser: Te Devin Asiasi

Eagles vs. Patriots Highlights | NFL 2018 Preseason Week 2

Hunter Henry, Jonnu Smith, and Matt LaCosse were all inactive entering the game against Philadelphia with various injuries. This left Asiasi as the only tight end on the roster.

Despite getting reps at multiple points in the game, Asiasi only saw one target that resulted in an incompletion.

Asiasi was a third-round pick last season and lost his job to the two newcomers this offseason and may even find himself behind LaCosse. This was not the type of performance that inspires confidence in the young tight end.

Why Bet On The Philadelphia Eagles

Its been a disappointing 2020 season for the Eagles after failing to make the playoffs for the first time in four years. They faced internal problems that held back the team. The tension between Doug Pederson and Carson Wentz affected the entire team, and general manager Howie Roseman faced difficulties containing the conflict. Eventually, the team survived 2020, but it came at a price.

Although weve yet to see rookie DeVonta Smith in the preseason due to injury, the Eagles saw Quez Watkins step up in their opening preseason game. The second-year wideout led the team with 79 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Seasoned signal-caller Joe Flacco displayed his prowess as well after going 10 of 17 for 178 passing yards and a touchdown, while Jalen Hurts hit 3 of 7 for 54 passing yards. Theres a good chance that we see Flacco in the next game together with Nick Mullens.

    Patriots Vs Eagles Preseason Preview

The Patriots won their first preseason game against the Washington Football Team, 22-13. Quarterbacks Cam Newton and Mac Jones both saw action, with the rookie Jones getting more snaps. Newton went 4-7 for 49 yards , while Jones went 13-19 for 87 yards . Running back Rhamondre Stevenson provided the bulk of the teams offense, rushing 10 times for 127 yards and two touchdowns.

When asked how Newton has progressed in Year 2 under offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick had generally positive things to say after the game.

Well, definitely way ahead of where we were at this time last year, but again, as I said, its I think the same for everybody,Belichick said.Just practice and fundamentals and then taking that to the execution that we need to have at game speed. Again, for all of us players, coaches, everybody. Last night was the step, but we have a long way to go, and we all need to improve in those areas.

On the other side, the Eagles are coming off a 24-16 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in their first preseason game. Quarterbacks Jalen Hurts and Joe Flacco both played in the game. Hurts went 3-7 for 54 yards, and Flacco finished his day completing 10 of 17 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown. Philadelphia had 236 yards through the air and just 52 yards on the ground, though, so the offense will have to find the running game at some point.

    Winner: Olb Matthew Judon

Preseason week 2 Patriots vs Eagles: Game time, TV ...

Judon may have only finished with one tackle on the stat sheet, but his impact was felt on multiple plays. Whether he was affecting a running backs path or getting in the face of Eagles quarterback Joe Flacco, it was evident that the linebacker was everywhere.

Many questioned whether or not paying Judon would work out for Belichick and company. However, he seems to be doing exactly what he was in Baltimore, and thats making winning plays.

    Loser: Wr Nelson Agholor

In a game where a lot of players popped, Agholor was extremely quiet. Through the first three drives , the former Eagle was on the field for 14 snaps.

Despite the reps, Agholor didnt receive a target.

New England made Agholor their highest-paid wide receiver this offseason, but he has yet to show anything on the game field. Its extremely early, but it would be nice to see a pass even thrown his way.

    Mac Jones Finally Warmed Up

It took Jones a while to warm his arm up. Yet, he found it in the Patriots vs. Eagles game Thursday night. He tested Washington downfield twice last week, but he never really challenged the defense with velocity to a tight window. That changed against the Eagles. It took him a game, but the arm finally loosened up.

Now, I wont sit here and lie to you about Jones arm strength it is very much average. Watch the difference in how he delivers a pass with velocity compared to any of the other first-round rookie QBs. Jones puts his entire being into making the ball jump out of his hand.

Still, he did just that, and he didnt just do it once. Jones drove passes into tight windows multiple times against multiple coverages. One was a dart close to 20 yards downfield against man coverage. The other impressive throw came against spot-drop zone coverage. He threaded the needle to a sitting receiver that closed quickly.

But he was so much more impressive than just that. At one point, Jones went 13-of-19 with 3 dropped passes and one spike. Furthermore, the Patriots scored 3 touchdowns in Jones four drives.

Could there be a starting QB battle in New England heading into Week 1?

As long as Newton plays well for the Patriots in practice, hell continue as the presumed Week 1 starter. Still, Jones is proving he belongs in the NFL and in the conversation for the starting job.

FULL Highlights: New England Patriots Top Plays vs. Philadelphia Eagles (Preseason Week 2)

In the Patriots preseason opener, Rhamondre Stevenson made a big play, taking it to the house on a 91-yard touchdown run. Stevenson was a stud running back in college and he flashed his abilities in the Patriots first preseason game. New England is known to utilize a committee approach in the backfield, which gives Stevenson a real opportunity to earn a role on the offense. Look for Rhamondre Stevenson to make some noise against the Eagles, as he should receive a good chunk of work.

    New England Vs Philadelphia Moneyline

    New England -120, Philadelphia +100

New England opened as a -2.5 favorite with a moneyline at -135. But the market has shifted towards Philadelphia.

Normally with a 1-point line, it’s tempting to just jump on the moneyline and buy that extra point with the notion that the game almost certainly won’t end in a tie. However, this is preseason football, and there’s no overtime in preseason football anymore which allows for a better chance at a tie — especially when neither team cares that much about winning.

As for picking a side, the common sentiment out of joint practices gave the edge to the Eagles. Jalen Hurts was said to be the most impressive quarterback on the field, but to be fair, the Patriots also were without their starting tight ends.

Still, it feels like the Eagles are healthier and playing better than a team that has a regular season win total of 6.5. But there have been rumblings that Philly’s starters won’t see much time in this game.

On the other hand, you have a legitimate quarterback competition unfolding for New England with Cam Newton and Mac Jones both jockeying for the Week 1 starting spot. One would imagine that they’ll combine for a heavy majority of the reps. However, they’re still lacking weapons: The only tight end to practice Tuesday was Devin Asiasi.

The ‘oh And A Lot Of Other Guys Didn’t Play’ Award : A Bunch Of Starters

The entire first-team defensive line didn’t play. Neither did the first-team offensive line. Neither did Darius Slay.

Hell, the third-team defensive line that got pushed around throughout the entire second half of the first preseason game was playing in the first quarter. How did that go? Well…

Poor DE at the top of the screen. Gets obliterates by the RB then finally picks himself up, only to get shoved back by the RT. Also, smart by the RT. I think theres rules against how aggressive you can be when hes on the ground but once he gets back up, fair game.
