Red States Outnumber Blue States
In February 2016, Gallup reported that for the first time since Gallup started tracking, red states now outnumber blue states.
In 2008, 35 states leaned Democratic and this number is down to only 14 now. In the same time, the number of Republican leaning states rose from 5 to 20. Gallup determined 16 states to be competitive, i.e., they leaned toward neither party. Wyoming, Idaho and Utah were the most Republican states, while states that leaned the most Democratic were Vermont, Hawaii and Rhode Island.

Neilia Hunter was born on July 28, 1942, in Skaneateles, New York, to Louise and Robert Hunter who were Presbyterians. She attended Penn Hall, a secondary boarding school in Pennsylvania. She was active in the school’s French club, hockey, swimming and student council. After secondary school, she attended Syracuse University and was a school teacher in the Syracuse City School District. She was an English teacher at the Bellevue Academy in Syracuse, New York. Republicans Respond To Biden’s Speech
Representative Kevin McCarthy of California, the top House Republican, said it was Democrats who were dismantling Americans democracy before our very eyes.
“Instead of trying to bring our country together to solve these challenges, President Biden has chosen to divide, demean and disparage his fellow Americans,” McCarthy said in Biden’s hometown of Scranton, Pennsylvania. “Why? Simply because they disagree with his policies.”
After the speech, Republicans said Biden was maligning the 74 million people who voted for Trump in the 2020 election.

Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. was born on November 20, 1942, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, as World War II raged overseas. The first child of Catherine Eugenia Jean Finnegan Biden and Joseph Robinette Biden Sr., Joey, as he was known, was a scrappy kid from a working-class Irish Catholic family. By now, Joe Jr. had been joined by his sister Valerie two brothers, James and Frank, would complete the family.
On his spring break in 1964, he met Neilia Hunter, a Syracuse University student. They married in 1966 and had three children, Beau , Hunter , and Naomi , who was known as Amy.
Supported by his sister Valerie, who served as campaign manager, his brother Jimmy, who was his chief fundraiser, and his wife, Neilia, Biden barnstormed the state, going door to door in the suburbs and at the shore, and won by less than 3,000 votes out of a total 228,000 cast. In his victory speech, the young Senator-elect graciously called the defeated incumbent a real gentleman.

President Joe Biden has built a bit of momentum of late â buoyed by lower gas prices, strong jobs numbers and a series of legislative victories.
And with that momentum has come two things:
1) Improved poll numbers for Biden.
2) Less chatter about whether Biden will â or should â run again.
But, less chatter is not no chatter.

It is true that Biden cast himself a bridge figure.
In March 2020 â just before Covid-19 shut down the country â Biden was campaigning with then-California Sen. Kamala Harris, New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. And he said this: âLook, I view myself as a bridge, not as anything else. Thereâs an entire generation of leaders you saw stand behind me. They are the future of this country.â

Domestic Initiatives And Activities
The Joining Forces program with Michelle Obama, which was put on hiatus by Melania Trump, has been revived by Biden. During visits to Joint Base LewisMcChord and Naval Air Station Whidbey Island in the state of Washington, Biden said that “the men and women of our armed forces can’t be at their best when they are worried that their families are struggling,” and praised the joint base for having dedicated spaces for service children on the autistic spectrum. During 2021, Biden visited 16 military installations and worked with Joining Forces to hold over 20 events for military families focusing on employment, entrepreneurship and other issues. In the same year, the Office of the First Lady joined the U.S. National Security Council in launching the Joining Forces Interagency Policy Committee to secure proposals across the federal government to support military families.
In March 2022, Biden and Doug Emhoff hosted the Ukrainian ambassador to the United States, Oksana Markarova, in her box at the State of the Union address.
Senate Foreign Relations Committee
Biden was a longtime member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He became its ranking minority member in 1997 and chaired it from June 2001 to 2003 and 2007 to 2009. His positions were generally liberal internationalist. He collaborated effectively with Republicans and sometimes went against elements of his own party. During this time he met with at least 150 leaders from 60 countries and international organizations, becoming a well-known Democratic voice on foreign policy.
Biden voted against authorization for the Gulf War in 1991, siding with 45 of the 55 Democratic senators he said the U.S. was bearing almost all the burden in the anti-Iraq coalition.
Biden became interested in the Yugoslav Wars after hearing about Serbian abuses during the Croatian War of Independence in 1991. Once the Bosnian War broke out, Biden was among the first to call for the “lift and strike” policy of lifting the arms embargo, training Bosnian Muslims and supporting them with NATO air strikes, and investigating war crimes. The George H. W. Bush administration and Clinton administration were both reluctant to implement the policy, fearing Balkan entanglement. In April 1993, Biden spent a week in the Balkans and held a tense three-hour meeting with Serbian leader Slobodan Miloevi. Biden said he had told Miloevi, “I think you’re a damn war criminal and you should be tried as one.”

In 1972, Biden defeated Republican incumbent J. Caleb Boggs to become the junior U.S. senator from Delaware. He was the only Democrat willing to challenge Boggs, and with minimal campaign funds, he was given no chance of winning. Family members managed and staffed the campaign, which relied on meeting voters face-to-face and hand-distributing position papers, an approach made feasible by Delaware’s small size. He received help from the AFLCIO and Democratic pollster Patrick Caddell. His platform focused on the environment, withdrawal from Vietnam, civil rights, mass transit, equitable taxation, health care, and public dissatisfaction with “politics as usual”. At the time of his election, he was 29 years old, but he reached the constitutionally required age of 30 before he was sworn in as Senator.

Biden’s husband was elected president and took office on January 20, 2021. Approval Ratings Popularity And Controversy
In October 2021, Biden was placed the seventh most popular first lady out of twelve recent first ladies from an online survey poll by Zogby Analytics.
During the first year and a half of being first lady, a CNN poll revealed that Biden’s favorability ratings had declined, from 58 percent favorable to 28 percentage unfavorable at the time of her husband’s inauguration, compared to 34 percent favorable to 29 percent unfavorable during JuneJuly 2022. A popularity dip of that extext was unusual, as first ladies usually have stronger ratings than their husbands do and stay high even when their husbands’ ratings decline. In August 2016, Joe Biden, his sister Valerie Biden Owens and son Hunter attended a ceremony that renamed a southeastern Kosovar highway “Joseph R. ‘Beau’ Biden, III” to honour Beau’s contribution to Kosovo for training its judges and prosecutors. That year the Major Joseph R. “Beau” Biden III National Guard/Reserve Center in New Castle, Delaware was named in his honor. On November 14, 2017, Joe Biden published a memoir titled Promise Me, Dad: A Year of Hope, Hardship, and Purpose, where he reflects on Beau Biden’s illness and death.
On March 2, 2020, Joe Biden mentioned Beau in a speech, comparing him to former South Bend Mayor, Pete Buttigieg, after Buttigieg endorsed Biden for the 2020 presidential election.

Presidential Runs And Vice Presidency
Biden pursued the 1988 Democratic presidential nomination but withdrew after it was revealed that parts of his campaign stump speech had been plagiarized from British Labour Party leader Neil Kinnock without appropriate attribution. His 2008 presidential campaign never gained momentum, and he withdrew from the race after placing fifth in the Iowa Democratic caucus in January of that year. After Barack Obama amassed enough delegates to secure the Democratic presidential nomination, Biden emerged as a front-runner to be Obamas vice presidential running mate. He resigned from the Senate post shortly before taking the oath of office as vice president on January 20, 2009. In November 2012 Obama and Biden were reelected for a second term, defeating the Republican ticket of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan.
