PRIMER, COLOR, AND CLEARCOAT – It goes without saying that you need paint to do a touch up paint job. Clearcoat provides a thin protective layer for your paint job while Primer is required for damage that has reached the original base material.
WAX AND GREASE REMOVER CLOTH – The wax and grease remover cloth is used to remove wax, grease, and contaminants before painting.
SANDPAPER – Wet-sanding the affected area removes rust and prepares the surface with a rough finish so the paint can stick better.
POLISHING COMPOUND – The polishing compound smooths everything out with a factory-grade finish.

The Equipment You Need To Fix Your Jeep
To achieve great results when restoring your Jeeps paint job, you must purchase the correct equipment for the job. Whether it is applying PR4 paint or PX8 paint, you will need:
- Wax and grease remover to ensure the area is clean before applying any products
- Primer this is used just before the Jeep touch up paint
- Jeep OEM Matched ERA Paints touch up paint
- Clear coat to seal the damaged area once the paint has been applied
- Sandpaper 320 or 600 grit sandpaper will help smooth off the damaged area.

The color code plate will be either on the drivers door jamb or under the hood on the radiator support. Jeep vehicle color codes can be preceded by a letter such as P or Q. For example if you are looking for color code ‘W7/GW7’, it may appear on your vehicle as ‘PW7/GW7’ or ‘QW7/GW7’ or ‘RW7/GW7’, etc. The actual color code is W7. Some of the colors below may be followed by the word ‘matt’, i.e. Color Description . These are trim or bumper colors.

Find Your Patriot Color & Paint Code
Jeep codes can be difficult to find as they may be located in several possible places. In newer Jeeps, you can find the color code located in the drivers side door jamb. Sometimes it may be located in the firewall or under the drivers seat. In the good old days, they used to do their best to hide the color code on top of the radiator support, making it virtually impossible to locate since it would get all covered with grease.

Anatomy Of A Jeep Color Code
In the example above, the paint code is “GBS“. Most jeep paint codes are three digits long. In this example, only the BS is the actual color code. This can also be shown as “QBS”, “PBS”, “TBS”, etc. – we’re not sure why they did it like this! The first letter is the mysterious “Year Code” which regardless of what the intent was, it just makes for confusing color codes.
“BS” corresponds to Deep Water Blue Pearl Clearcoat. Again, the G in the GBS is not part of the color code. Lately, Jeep has been wising up and just listing the paint codes as BS.
Two Tone Combination Jeep has many two tone combinations for some cars. Two tones are two different colors on your car. Jeep did not do a great job with two tone color coding and often the secondary color information is just missing so this makes it impossible to know without borrowing a color book from us what colors you actually have.
Same Color Code, Different Name Jeep, like all manufacturers, uses the exact same color across many models and then will have a different color name for each model. It’s the same paint! This is why the color code is so important to order the correct paint.
For example, BS above we call Deep Water Blue Pearl Clearcoat. It could also be called Blue Clearcoat, Ocean Clearcoat, etc. depending on what the marketing department decided to call it.
