In order to keep their slim playoff hopes alive, the Patriots need a win at home on Thursday night against a Bills team that hasn’t looked as dominant in the past month as it did to start the season. Kick off is set for 8:15 p.m. ET tonight with the game streaming nationally on Prime Video and for free on Twitch.

However, Buffalos inconsistency has completely changed expectations for this team.

The first regular-season game Kevin OConnell participated in during his fleeting NFL playing career came in late-game relief for New England in a rare lopsided loss.
The Patriots had a bye the following week, and sure enough coach Bill Belichick had them ready for a bounce-back victory. Even after Tom Brady was lost for the year with a knee injury in the opener, the Patriots finished that 2008 season with an 11-5 record.

Why The Bills Won
Stefon Diggs worked his magic. Josh Allen was obviously a big reason, too, as per usual, and his efforts were never more invaluable than on Buffalo’s second touchdown of the night — a highlight-reel scramble in which Allen found Gabe Davis in the end zone after waiting until the last minute on the sideline. But Diggs is so often the catalyst on otherwise stalled drives, and his numbers would’ve been even better if not for a ticky-tack holding call. James Cook also did well with 20+ touches, leading the backfield, and Isaiah McKenzie was an effective safety valve. The defense, of course, deserves just as much, if not more, credit. Despite logging just a single sack deep into the fourth, that unit was dominant on third downs, bottled up the Pats’ signature ground game and got big-time pressures and/or deflections from veterans like Tremaine Edmunds and Jordan Poyer.
