Trump Should Not Run For President In 2024 Majority Of Americans Say
As former President Donald Trump considers launching another bid for the White House, more than six in 10 Americans do not want him to run in 2024, according to a new PBS NewsHour/NPR/Marist poll. And while Trumps possession of more than 10,000 government documents at his Florida home seems not to have changed the minds of his steady supporters, a plurality of Americans think he has done something illegal.
The level of support for another Trump campaign remains virtually unchanged from December 2020, the month after he lost the presidential election and weeks before a mob of his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol in an effort to stop the certification of the Electoral College votes.
His numbers dont move. Theyre locked in, said Lee Miringoff, the director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion. The good thing for former President Trump is his numbers dont drop. The bad thing is hes only talking about a third of the electorate who are in his corner.

Thats not a great place to launch an election campaign, he added.
Just 28 percent of independents believe Trump should run again, this poll found, while two-thirds say the former president should sit out the next election. According to 2020 exit polling, 41 percent of independents had voted for Trumps reelection, suggesting a significant cratering of support since.

The Many Scandals Of Donald Trump: A Cheat Sheet
One of the women who accused Trump of sexual misconduct has sued him for defamation after he labeled her claims false.
Donald Trump is now president and not just a private citizen, but that doesnt mean hes free of the controversies that dogged him in his former life.
Last week, a few days before Trumps inauguration, the former Apprentice contestant Summer Zervos sued him in New York State, accusing the president of defamation. Zervos, whos represented by the famous lawyer Gloria Allred, was one of the several women who accused Trump of sexual assault or misconduct prior to the election. She claims that he kissed her and pressed his genitals against her nonconsensually. Trump denied those claims, saying all of the women who had accused him had made their stories up. So Zervos sued him for defamation.
I wanted to give Mr. Trump the opportunity to retract his false statements about me and the other women who came forward, she said, as my colleague Nora Kelly reported. She added that she would withdraw the suit if Trump said she had been truthful. That seems unlikely, because a spokeswoman dismissed the suit immediately.
The 2016 presidential campaign saw a long string of stories showing scandals involving Trump, both large and smallfrom questionable business dealings to allegations of sexual assault. While they did not derail his presidential hopes, many of them remain live issues as Trump begins his transition to the White House.

Fiscal And Economic Policy

In 2014, Indiana’s economy was among the slowest-growing in the United States, with 0.4 percent GDP growth, compared to the national average of 2.2 percent this was attributed in part to a sluggish manufacturing sector. and announced in 2016 that they would be closing two facilities in Indiana, sending 2,100 jobs to Mexico the Trump campaign criticized the moves and Pence expressed “deep disappointment”. Pence was unsuccessful in his efforts to persuade the companies to stay in the state, although the companies agreed to reimburse local and state governments for certain tax incentives they had received. The led by Pence had approved $24 million in incentives to ten companies who sent jobs abroad. $8.7 million had been paid out by August 2016.
Dont Put Anything In Writing
Theres little record of Trump owning a personal computer or writing emails. When running his business, his staff have described that he rarely put anything in writing or gave direct orders. Trumps former in-house lawyer Michael Cohen told Congress in 2019 that Trump spoke to him in code when he was giving him instructions about how to lie to Congress and Special Counsel Robert Mueller about Trump projects in Russia.
Being president meant more of Trumps actions and directives were recorded, even when he didnt want them to be. Trumps July 2019 phone call with Zelensky, for example, was documented by notetakers in the White House Situation Room, who routinely document conversations between Presidents and world leaders. Even though Trump denied there was anything wrong in the call, the notes describe Trump telling Zelensky, Theres a lot of talk about Bidens son, that Biden stopped the prosecution and a lot of people want to find out about that so whatever you can do with the Attorney General would be great.
Trump once berated his White House counsel Don McGahn for taking notes during an Oval Office meeting about the Mueller investigation. Why do you take notes? Lawyers dont take notes. I never had a lawyer who took notes, Trump said. McGahn said he took notes because hes a real lawyer and it creates a record. Ive had a lot of great lawyers, like Roy Cohn. He did not take notes, Trump said.

Relationship With The Press
Trump began promoting himself in the press in the 1970s, and continued to seek media attention throughout his career, sustaining a “lovehate” relationship with the press. In the 2016 campaign, Trump benefited from a record amount of free media coverage, elevating his standing in the Republican primaries.The New York Times writer Amy Chozick wrote in 2018 that Trump’s media dominance enthralled the public and created “must-see TV.”
As a candidate and as president, Trump frequently accused the press of bias, calling it the “fake news media” and “the enemy of the people“. In 2018, journalist Lesley Stahl recounted Trump’s saying he intentionally demeaned and discredited the media “so when you write negative stories about me no one will believe you”.
As president, Trump privately and publicly mused about revoking the press credentials of journalists he viewed as critical. His administration moved to revoke the press passes of two White House reporters, which were restored by the courts. In 2019, a member of the foreign press reported many of the same concerns as those of media in the U.S., expressing concern that a normalization process by reporters and media results in an inaccurate characterization of Trump. The Trump White House held about a hundred formal press briefings in 2017, declining by half during 2018 and to two in 2019.
Presidential Campaign And 2011 Hints At Presidential Run
In 2000, Trump ran in the California and Michigan primaries for nomination as the Reform Party candidate for the 2000 United States presidential election but withdrew from the race in February 2000. A July 1999 poll matching him against likely Republican nominee George W. Bush and likely Democratic nominee Al Gore showed Trump with seven percent support.
In 2011, Trump speculated about running against President Barack Obama in the 2012 election, making his first speaking appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference in February 2011 and giving speeches in early primary states. In May 2011, he announced he would not run, and he endorsed Mitt Romney in February 2012. Trump’s presidential ambitions were generally not taken seriously at the time.

Georgia Election Tampering Probe
A special grand jury was selected in May to consider evidence in a Georgia prosecutor’s inquiry into Trump’s alleged efforts to influence that state’s 2020 election results. read more
The investigation focuses in part on a phone call Trump made to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, a Republican, on Jan. 2, 2021. Trump asked Raffensperger to “find” the votes needed to overturn Trump’s election loss.
Legal experts said Trump may have violated at least three Georgia criminal election laws: conspiracy to commit election fraud, criminal solicitation to commit election fraud and intentional interference with performance of election duties.
Trump could argue he was engaging in constitutionally protected free speech.
A California federal judge said on Wednesday in a separate lawsuit that Trump had knowingly made false voter fraud claims in a Georgia election lawsuit, according to emails the judge reviewed. read more

The expansion would have moved 1000 jobs into the state. Thousands protested against the policy. Five Republican state representatives voted against the bill, and , the Republican mayor of Indianapolis, criticized it as sending the “wrong signal” about the state.

Approval Ratings And Scholar Surveys
Trump was the only president to never reach a 50% approval rating in the Gallup poll dating to 1938. The approval ratings showed a record partisan gap: 88 percent among Republicans, 7 percent among Democrats. Until September 2020, the ratings were unusually stable, reaching a high of 49 percent and a low of 35 percent. Trump finished his term with a record-low approval rating of between 29 percent and 34 percent and a record-low average of 41 percent throughout his presidency.
In Gallup’s annual poll asking Americans to name the man they admire the most, Trump placed second to Obama in 2017 and 2018, tied with Obama for most admired man in 2019, and was named most admired in 2020. Since Gallup started conducting the poll in 1948, Trump is the first elected president not to be named most admired in his first year in office.

Reporters cracked up laughing at Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosis response to the question Was this President a crook?
On Friday, Speaker Pelosi held a press conference, at which she took a raft of questions about the ever-deepening scandal around the FBI raid at Trumps Mar-a-lago resort home, which Trump and many Republicans responded to by waging a campaign to baselessly smear the FBI, which appears to have been the motivation for an attack on an FBI headquarters in Cincinnati that was carried out by a supporter of Trump 42-year-old Ricky Shiffer who was angry about the raid on Mar-a-Lago.
But there was a moment of levity toward the end, when Pelosi sidestepped one reporter who wanted to ask about the attack in favor of another reporter whod been quicker on the draw.
The reporter began by suggesting that Speaker Pelosi has been reticent about characterizing Trump then asked her Was this President a crook?:

Were all being played for fools! FH said. And I blame Donald Trump for making it worse!
So, youre joining the Trump scapegoaters? I asked.
FH scoffed. You dont get it. Trump himself is playing into the hands of the people who hate him. Hes his own worst enemy! He knows nothing about politics and yet he thinks hes smarter and tougher than the professionals.
And yet he won.
He won because barely enough voters hated Hillary more than Donald. For the country, his win was a fortunate fluke. He saved us from four more years under the Clintons. But, instead of seeing his victory for the lucky break it was, he took it as a sign that he was right all along about politics being easy. Today, he still thinks hes immune to the rules of a ruthless game.
Thats what you thought, too, when you took that job with Mayor Jones.
FH sighed. Okay, I admit that it took me a while to learn the ropes. But I found out in a hurry that politics is a lot harder than it looks from the outside.
But now youre disappointed in the midterms, and youre blaming Trump.
We were talking about Trump.

Trump Has Used Other Peoples Donations To His Charity To Benefit Himself
Donald Trump has a charitable family foundation to which, in recent years, he has given hardly any money, instead raising the vast majority of its funds from others. Thats rather dishonest of him, since he constantly claims that the foundations donations are from his own pocketbook. But the more serious problem is that hes then used several hundred thousand dollars of that foundation money in deeply questionable ways that may well have run afoul of laws against self-dealing with charity money.
For instance, in September, the Washington Posts David Fahrenthold the reporter whos absolutely owned the Trump Foundation beat reported that Trump used $258,000 of the foundations money to settle legal problems involving his for-profit businesses.
Again, what Trump seems to have done here is used other peoples charity donations to get his own businesses off the hook for lawsuits. Which seems … pretty corrupt.
And eventually, Farenthold found another bombshell. Businessman Richard Ebers bought almost $1.9 million worth of goods and services from Trump or his businesses, but he was told to pay Trumps tax-exempt foundation instead, according to Fahrentholds sources. But according to the law, Trump should have paid taxes on that money as income and his campaign refuses to say whether he did so.
