At Donald Trump rallies and news conferences, the invocation is very often printed in the cameras lines of sight to ensure maximum exposure:

If you assumed this is a fundraising ploy, youd be wrong. The Republican presidential front-runner is self-funding his campaign, remember?


Instead of money, Trump ostensibly wants a channel to communicate directly with voters. His website advertises exclusive updates for those who subscribe to the texting service.

One problem: Trump doesnt seem to use the service very often.

Two weeks ago, on the day of the Wisconsin primary, I signed up and prepared for The Donald to Make My iPhone Great Again with the exclusive updates I had been promised. Heres how it went.

And then nothing for 14 days.

Last week, Fix colleague Philip Bump had the good idea to subscribe using a New York ZIP code to see whether the Trump campaign might be targeting residents of the Empire State ahead of the primary. He got nothing for five days.


Finally, on primary day Tuesday, the first exclusive updates arrived.

Later, after I asked the campaign about its use or underuse of the text line, both Bump and I received this message.

What. A. Waste.

Maybe, in another message, Trump could ask subscribers to name the No. 1 issue in the campaign: Text A for immigration, B for terrorism, C for trade, D for gun rights.

    The Trump administration has demonstrated a complete disinterest in assisting small farms, as Secretary Perdue made explicit at an event in October 2019, where he was quoted as saying, In America, the big get bigger and the small go out. I dont think in America we, for any small business, we have a guaranteed income or guaranteed profitability.

    One of Trumps first actions in office was to withdraw Obama-era rules that protected livestock farmers from exploitation by powerful agriculture monopolies. Specifically, the Trump administration revoked rules that would prohibit meatpackers from paying different prices to farmers with similar products and banned them from retaliating against growers who organized collectively for better contract terms. The rules also prohibited bad-faith negotiation practices or the spurious cancelation of contracts with farmers. The set of rules, formulated by the Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration , also strengthened enforcement by lowering the standard for farmers bringing suit against meatpackers under the Packers and Stockyards Act. In place of these rules, the Trump administration finalized far weaker rules that some farmer advocates say cement the ability of packers to engage in unfair practices.

    Trumps Record Of Hate

    Since Trump was sworn into office, our nations federal courts have halted his draconian and illegal executive actions from being implemented, while millions of people across the country have become more politically engaged, standing up against hate and bigotry.

    But Trump is a bully and so is his administration. He will do everything in his power to tear back the progress made under former President Obama, including rolling back and undermining laws that help the LGBTQ+ community and other minority groups.

    Fridays positive jobs report might have been a day of exclamation points and all-caps self-congratulation for Donald J. Trump if he were A) still president, and B) still allowed to post on Twitter.

    Instead, there was a somber tweet from the White House chief of staff, Ron Klain, who downplayed the 379,000 newly created jobs as not good enough, and Mr. Trump himself used a muted megaphone he once eschewed email to address an array of topics tailor-fit for social media.

    Despite being delayed by years of litigation and politics by the Democrats, the wall is almost finished and can be quickly completed. Doing so will save thousands of lives, Mr. Trump wrote in an email on Friday, responding to recent White House moves to reverse his immigration and border wall policies.

    Keep illegal immigration, crime, and the China Virus out of our country! he added in the email, sent by his post-presidential office.

    Political campaigns tap companies such as Hustle or RumbleUp that employ hundreds of people who each send thousands of text messages to potential voters. Theyre exactly like the text messages that you or I send to our friends and family, and are categorized as peer-to-peer, or P2P messages. Thats different from whats known as application-to-peer, or A2P, messages, which are more formal blast text messages.

    Since P2P messages are normally supposed to be more limited exchanges between individuals, systems may flag accounts that send too many messages. If, for instance, you send more than 1,000 messages in a day, those messages will likely get blocked.


    Companies will work with the carriers ahead of time to get prior approval to send these mass messages.

    The Donald Trump presidential campaign has been charged with violating the Telephone Consumer Protection Act by sending unwanted political text messages to cellular phones. The Telephone Consumer Protection Act was passed in 1991 under President George H.W. Bush to protect the public from receiving unwanted telemarketer calls. Today, it equally applies to unsolicited text messages.

    The Donald Trump presidential campaign has been charged with violating the Telephone Consumer Protection Act by sending unwanted political text messages to cellular phones.

    The Telephone Consumer Protection Act was passed in 1991 under President George H.W. Bush to protect the public from receiving unwanted telemarketer calls. Today, it equally applies to unsolicited text messages. Marketers must receive prior express written consent from their clients before texting them and adding them to their subscription lists.


    Like many other organizations that use SMS marketing, the Donald Trump presidential campaign allows supporters to sign up for text message updates by texting an SMS short code. Supporters must supply their zip code in order to be signed up for news from the campaign.

    Thornes attorney, Joseph Siprut of Siprut PC, has stated that based on the information we have at this point, were very confident that a violation was made and we intend to pursue it to the gates of hell. As of this writing, the Trump campaign has yet to comment.

    Former President Donald Trump attempted to convey a cryptic message to Attorney General Merrick Garland following the FBI raid of Trumps Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, The New York Times reported over the weekend.

    The report said Trump wanted Garland to know he had been speaking with people around the country who were enraged by the FBI search.

    A person familiar with the exchange told the paper that the message Trump wanted to be conveyed to Garland was: The country is on fire. What can I do to reduce the heat?

    The Times said a person close to the former president had reached out to a Justice Department official to give Garland the message. It wasnt clear whether the message reached Garland.

    Severalpeopleonsocialmediasuggested Trumps message to Garland could be interpreted as a veiled threat.

    Robert Maguire, a research director at the nonprofit Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, said the message appeared to suggest that Trump could fan the flames of violence.

    Former President Donald Trump has a large and fiercely loyal following of supporters, and now hes given them a way to request a personalized message.

    Trumps post-presidential website has a section where supporters can request a message from the ex-president and former first lady Melania Trump for a special occasion.

    Its not uncommon for a former president to give people a way to reach, and you can request a personalized memento from former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton.

    Requesting a message from the Trumps is fairly easy and can be submitted electronically directly from his website. The form asks about the occasion, information on the recipient and requestor and any additional details the former president should know.

    Receiving a message from Trump isnt guaranteed, though, and requires planning because it can take up to six weeks to get a greeting. The office wont provide status updates, either, and advises people to not resubmit a request because a duplicate request will supersede the original submission and delay processing.

    Record high numbers of people turned out in last Novembers election, and although he lost to Joe Biden, Trump received the most votes of any Republican presidential candidate in history.     The January 7 speech was seen by Mr Trumps aides as an effort to make up for his inaction the day before, when he waited hours to tell the rioters to leave the Capitol and then when he did, in a video filmed in the Rose Garden, he told the rioters they were very special.

    In the video released by Ms Luria, Trump aide Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trumps husband, says he had spoken with other aides and they were trying to put remarks together for the president.

    We felt like it was important to further call for de-escalation, Mr Kushner tells the committee.

    When the committee asks Mr Kushner why Mr Trump crossed out specific lines, he responds, twice: I dont know.

    Former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson said the scramble to get Mr Trump to speak again on January 7 was partly because of large concern within the White House that some of his cabinet officials might try to invoke the constitutional process of the 25th Amendment to remove him from office.

    The newly released video also includes testimony from John McEntee, then the director of the White House presidential personnel office and one of Mr Trumps closest aides at the time.

    Mr McEntee says in the video Mr Kushner asked him to nudge this along to make sure Mr Trump delivered the speech, and confirms the former US president was reluctant to do so.

    Pat Cipollone, the former top White House lawyer, also says he believes Mr Trump should have forcefully laid out the consequences for the rioters.

    Twitter may be maintaining its ban on Donald Trump, but the former president is finding other ways to get his message out.

    The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday published a lengthy letter to the editor from Trump charging, inaccurately, that the 2020 presidential election won by Joe Biden was rigged.

    The nearly 600-word letter is replete with loosely sourced and largely debunked claims of fraud in Pennsylvania, a state that President Biden won by 81,660 votes, handing him 20 electoral college votes that helped secure his victory.

    Trump took issue with an Oct. 24 piece from the Journals reliably conservative editorial board, which argued that the statewide margin between Trump and Biden was too vast for a debate over the status of approximately 10,000 mail-in ballots that arrived after the Election Day deadline to be germane to the outcome. The country is lucky the election wasnt closer, the board wrote. If the election had hung on a few thousand Pennsylvanians, the outcome might have been picked by the U.S. Supreme Court.

    Well actually, the election was rigged, which you, unfortunately, still havent figured out, Trump retorted baselessly in his letter, before listing a few examples of how determinative the voter fraud in Pennsylvania was. Trump cited talking points from Audit the Vote PA, a little-known organization that has promoted unsubstantiated claims of election fraud, which he described as highly respected.

    What Have Outgoing Presidents Written To Their Successors In The Past

    Many past letters from former to incoming presidents have been published.

    An early example is a telegram from Herbert Hoover to Franklin Roosevelt, who took office in 1933.

    Mr Hoover was badly defeated in the 1932 election, but still sent his best wishes to his successor.
