After losing her seat in Congress, Rep. Liz Cheney launched The Great Task with Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger , a PAC dedicated solely to ensuring that Trump does not get re-elected. Colorado Republican Senate nominee Joe O’Dea said he would “actively campaign against” Trump if he decided to run for re-election.

Whether or not Trump decides to run for re-election will impact the party substantially. Some candidates are withholding their announcements in anticipation of Trump’s announcement. For example, while Sen. Ted Cruz has not ruled out the possibility of running in 2024, he has said he is watching what Trump decides to do.

Finally, as many presume that President Biden will seek re-election as well, Americans aren’t exactly itching for a rematch between the two presidents, with a poll showing that only about 30 percent of Americans want either Biden or Trump to run for president in two years.

The political left is now repeating that mistake as its cultural and political vanguard sends a message of condescension, hostility and now ostracism to anyone who voted for Mr. Trump or has worked with or for him for the good of the country. Their relentless contempt might end up re-electing him.

On that score dont underestimate how the refusal by a restaurant in Lexington, Virginia, to serve White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders will resonate politically. Ms. Sanders had taken a seat at the Red Hen with several others on Friday when owner Stephanie Wilkinson asked her to leave. Ms. Wilkinson told the press, which is turning her into Rosa Parks, that her restaurant has certain standards that I feel it has to uphold, such as honesty, and compassion, and cooperation.

When Election Day arrives in Florida, Donald Trump will vote for a Republican whose political demise he may soon find himself plotting.

Months after Trump told The Wall Street Journal he would support Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis bid for reelection, the former President and his home-state governor appear increasingly likely to collide in a heated 2024 presidential primary. While neither has formally announced a presidential campaign, both have taken steps in the closing days of the 2022 cycle to cement themselves as team players and kingmakers locking horns in those pursuits.

We have a rift with Trump. Big shocker, said a source close to the DeSantis campaign, who was granted anonymity to speak candidly. Its no secret that things are cool between right now. Theyre not punching each other, but were not helping them and theyre not helping us.

How Is Trump’s Potential Announcement Affecting The Midterms

Despite no formal announcement having yet been made, Trump seems to be preparing for a potential campaign in 2024. He launched a new PAC known as MAGA, Inc., designed to funnel large amounts of money into key midterm races, Politico reports. The PAC is posited to be a way to boost himself ahead of a re-election bid.

Up until this point, Democrats have outspent Republicans in races all over the country because midterm elections tend to favor the party not currently holding office. Trump has spent minimally on Republican candidates throughout the majority of their campaigns but now seems to be coming in a pinch to provide financially. The new PAC can also be used to transfer money from his other leadership PAC, called Save America, to be used to expand his financial influence, The Washington Post reports.

Trump has a lot to gain from midterm elections given that he has endorsed numerous candidates across the country. Their victory would solidify his influence in the political sphere, while their loss could call a re-election bid into question, Politico continues.

The former president has also fractured the GOP in many ways. Many Republican candidates have also opted to remove references to Trump in their campaign platforms for fear that it is losing them support. According to a poll by PBS, 61 percent of Americans do not want Trump to run for re-election.

Aides to the former president are making quiet preparations for a 2024 presidential campaign that could be launched soon after next weeks midterm elections as Trump tries to capitalize on expected Republican wins to propel himself toward becoming the front-runner for his partys nomination.

Im like 95% hes going to run, said Reince Priebus, Trumps former White House chief of staff. The real question, he added, is are other big challengers going to run? If President Trump runs, he will be very difficult for any Republican to defeat.

Another campaign would be a remarkable turn for any former president, much less one who made history as the first to be impeached twice and remains embroiled in multiple and intensifying criminal investigations, including probes of classified information held at his Mar-a-Lago club and his effort to pressure election officials to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Trump has a history dating back to the 1980s of publicly toying with White House bids only to back down.

Trumps Reelection Campaign Is In Crisis

The past three months have been a catastrophe for President Trump. With the odds against his reelection lengthening, and just 126 days until the election, the time to turn things around is dwindling. The president could still win a narrow victory, but only if everything breaks right.

A presidents job approval is the single most accurate measure of his political standing. As recently as April 1, Trumps approval averaged 45.8%about the share of the popular vote he received in 2016and his disapproval 49.7%, his best showing since the first month of his presidency. By June 26, his approval stood at 40.6%, down 5.2 points, while his disapproval rose by 6.4 points to 56.1%.

In modern political campaigns, job approval is a good indicator of the popular vote percentage the incumbent president is likely to receive. The closer the contest gets to election day, the smaller the gap between these two metrics. During the past six elections involving incumbents , the difference between the presidents final pre-election job approval and his share of the popular vote has averaged about 1 percentage point.

This will not be easy. During the past six reelection campaigns, the only president who has been able to raise his job approval ratings by more than 6 points between June and November was Barack Obama. In 2012, he raised his approval from 46% to 52%, thus becoming the only modern incumbent to turn likely defeat into victory during his general election campaign.

Only one president, Grover Cleveland, has ever lost a re-election bid and come back to reclaim the White House. In modern times, one-term presidents have worried more about rehabilitating their legacies by taking on nonpartisan causes Democrat Jimmy Carter by building housing for the poor and George H.W. Bush by raising money for disaster aid, for example than about trying to shape national elections. But Trump retains a hold on the Republican electorate that is hard to overstate, and he has no intention of relinquishing it.

“There’s a reason why they’re called ‘Trump voters,'” Miller said. “They either don’t normally vote or don’t normally vote for Republicans.”

Trump lost the popular vote by more than 7 million last year and the Electoral College by the same 306-232 result by which he had won four years earlier but he got more votes than any other Republican nominee in history. And it would have taken fewer than 44,000 votes, spread across swing states Georgia, Arizona and Wisconsin, to reverse the outcome.

Republicans, including Trump allies, say it’s too early to know what he will do, or what the political landscape will look like, in four years. A busload of Republican hopefuls are taking similar strides to position themselves. They include former Vice President Mike Pence, who is speaking to New Hampshire Republicans on Thursday, an event that the Concord Monitor called the kickoff of the 2024 race.

Trump Considering Launching Fresh White House Bid After Midterm Elections

WASHINGTON, Nov 3 – Former President Donald Trump is considering launching a third bid for the White House this month and is speed-dialing confidantes to hash out possible scenarios as he looks to benefit from expected Republican wins in Tuesday’s midterms, three Trump advisers said.

“I think like a moth to a flame, Trump will run in 2024,” one senior adviser told Reuters, speaking on condition of anonymity. “I think that he wants to run and announcing before Thanksgiving gives him a great advantage over his opponents and he understands that.”

An announcement in the coming weeks could also box out potential rivals for the party’s nomination, the advisers said, though they added it was possible the former president could still delay a decision or change his mind.

A representative for Trump did not respond to a request for comment.

One source familiar with Trump’s plans said he intends to announce his re-election campaign shortly after Tuesday’s elections and has been sounding out potential staff about joining the effort. The source was approached by the campaign to gauge interest.

Nonpartisan election forecasters and polls say it is highly likely Republicans will win a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives and also have a shot of taking control of the Senate, which would give them the power to block President Joe Biden’s legislative agenda for the next two years.

A Trump run could mean a rematch of the 2020 Biden-Trump election.

The Potential To Do ‘big Stuff’

Graham, who is currently facing calls to testify in a criminal probe related to Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election, said Trump would now be able to position himself as the president of hope and action as the political and economic climate darkens under President Joe Biden.

Here’s what Trump might say, said Graham.

“Alright, you’ve lived through four years of this. You get a chance to start over,” he said.

“Remember me? I may not be your cup of tea, but when I was president, our border was secure, we had the lowest illegal crossings in 40 years. I did it,” he continued.

“When I was president, I stood up to China and they listened. When I was president, we had the strongest military since Ronald Reagan. When I was president, I destroyed the caliphate. When I was president, we had conservative judges, not liberal judges. He has a story to tell,” said Graham.

Ultimately, however, Graham acknowledged that it may take more than policy pledges for Trump to regain favor among American voters.

“His problem is personal,” he said. “His policies have stood the test of time. But has he worn the American people out in terms of his personality? Time will tell.”

It has become conventional political wisdom that the White House misread Joe Bidens mandate. Democrats confused opposition to Donald Trump with support for a progressive economic and social agenda. Republicans ought to be wary of making a similar mistake with regard to current public attitudes about Mr. Bidens job performance.

Eighteen months into his presidency, Mr. Biden can point to few accomplishments for his party to run on in the November midterm elections. There are symbolic victories, such as the appointment of a black woman to the Supreme Court, but the administrations signature proposal, Build Back Better, has gone nowhere. Worse for Democrats, the problem isnt Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Its members of the presidents own party who have stood in the way.

A rivalry that had mostly existed behind the scenes burst into public view this week after DeSantis recorded a robocall endorsing Republican businessman Joe ODea, an underdog in the Colorado Senate race who vowed earlier this month to actively campaign against Trump if he mounts a third presidential bid. While the Florida governor has supported other Republican midterm candidates, none of them have been as explicitly critical of Trump as ODea.

The move did not go unnoticed by the former President, who has spent months griping to aides about DeSantis and amplifying claims that he would handily beat the governor in a Republican primary.

A BIG MISTAKE! Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform of DeSantis endorsing ODea. Three days later, Trump announced plans for a rally in South Florida with the states senior senator, Marco Rubio. DeSantis was not invited, a source told CNN.

The first signs of a strain in Trumps relationship with DeSantis began last fall amid the Florida Republicans soaring popularity and thinly veiled criticism of Trumps Covid-19 policies as president.

Despite efforts by allies of both men to defuse tensions, their strained relationship has persisted for months and now appears at a crescendo as Trump readies a post-midterm 2024 campaign announcement and DeSantis barrels toward reelection with potentially historic support from Florida Hispanics.
