Trump was the only president to never reach a 50% approval rating in the Gallup poll dating to 1938. The approval ratings showed a record partisan gap: 88 percent among Republicans, 7 percent among Democrats. Trump finished his term with a record-low approval rating of between 29 percent and 34 percent and a record-low average of 41 percent throughout his presidency.
In Gallups annual poll asking Americans to name the man they admire the most, Trump placed second to Obama in 2017 and 2018, tied with Obama for most admired man in 2019, and was named most admired in 2020. Since Gallup started conducting the poll in 1948, Trump is the first elected president not to be named most admired in his first year in office.

They agreed to the meeting under the pretense that a Russian government official had incriminating information of Trumps opponent Hillary Clinton and was willing to share it with the Trump camp.
Per the New York Times, which broke the story of the meeting, an email from intermediary Rob Goldstone to Don Jr. said the documents would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to your father.
Of Donald Jr.s response, the Times wrote, He replied within minutes: If its what you say I love it especially later in the summer.
This conduct was relevant in the Mueller investigation, which culminated in eldest Trump sibling being questioned in a 3-hour closed door session with the Senate Intelligence Committee that in turn prompted queries about whether Don Jr. lied to congress. Ultimately, though, this did not prove consequential in the subsequent impeachment proceedings against his father.
He has also been active in his fathers re-election campaign, and most recently spoke at the RNC.

Almost five months after leaving office, major publishing houses still are wary of publishing a book by former President Donald Trump, even though a post-White House memoir would almost assuredly be a best-seller.
Their reluctance is driven by several factors, though the underlying fear is that whatever Trump would write wouldnt be truthful.
t would be too hard to get a book that was factually accurate, actually, said one major figure in the book publishing industry, explaining their reluctance to publish Trump. That would be the problem. If he cant even admit that he lost the election, then how do you publish that?
Its unheard of for a former U.S. president to struggle to score a major book deal after leaving office. And the absence of Trumps own words from the literary world is made even more pronounced by the fact that several of his top aides and former Cabinet officials are writing books of their own. Former Vice President Mike Pence scored a seven-figure deal for two books with Simon & Schuster a decision that sparked some employees of the company, well-known Simon & Schuster authors, and others to circulate a petition accusing the storied book house of promoting bigotry.

A False Positive Scare
CNNs Oliver Darcy was all over this story from last week. Before Vice President Kamala Harris interview on Fridays The View, co-hosts Ana Navarro and Sunny Hostin were asked to leave the set because both had tested positive for COVID-19. Well, turns out, the results appear to have been false positives. They have subsequently taken three more tests and the results have been negative.
Navarro told CNNs Anderson Cooper on Friday that she is doing great. Meanwhile, Harris was supposed to be interviewed in person on The View set, but instead was interviewed remotely as she sat in a room isolated from hosts Joy Behar and Sara Haines.
It takes so much work to do an interview like this and its something that we were excited about, Navarro told Cooper. We were prepared to ask some tough questions. We were very proud to have the vice president come on The View and all of a sudden it turned into an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm. It was just surreal.

As president, Donald Trump repeatedly asked aides if China could be manufacturing hurricanes and sending them to damage the United States, three unnamed former senior officials told Rolling Stone on Tuesday.
Trump also reportedly wanted to know if using such a hurricane gun would constitute an act of war, and if so, whether the US could retaliate militarily.
China is a major nuclear power.
It was almost too stupid for words, one source told the magazine, which said the speaker was intimately familiar with the then sitting presidents inquiry.
I did not get the sense he was joking at all, the source added.
The news comes on the tail of former defense secretary Mark Espers claim, in a new book, that Trump wanted to hit drug labs in Mexico with missiles and then deny responsibility, and other hair-raising accounts of near foreign policy disaster.

In a memo not made public until now, then-White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows emailed to Vice President Mike Pences top aide, on New Years Eve, a detailed plan for undoing President Joe Bidens election victory, ABC News Chief Washington Correspondent Jonathan Karl reports.
The memo, written by former President Donald Trumps campaign lawyer Jenna Ellis, is reported for the first time in Karls upcoming book, Betrayal: The Final Act of the Trump Show demonstrating how Pence was under even more pressure than previously known to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
Ellis, in the memo, outlined a multi-step strategy: On Jan. 6, the day Congress was to certify the 2020 election results, Pence was to send back the electoral votes from six battleground states that Trump falsely claimed he had won.
The memo said that Pence would give the states a deadline of 7pm eastern standard time on January 15th to send back a new set of votes, according to Karl.
Then, Ellis wrote, if any state legislature missed that deadline, no electoral votes can be opened and counted from that state.
The day after Meadows sent Ellis memo to Pences aide, on Jan. 1, Trump aide John McEntee sent another memo to Pences chief of staff, Marc Short, titled, Jefferson used his position as VP to win.
I wouldnt dispute it, Trump said to Karl.

Some of them think Im traitorous or at the very least Ive succumbed to the evil influences of the mainstream media for accepting Trumps defeat.

He also calls his supporters folks, to show he is one of them .Trump doesnt repeat phrases and adjectives because he is stalling for time, Liberman says for the most part, hes providing emphasis and strengthening the association.
These are normal techniques, particularly in conversational speech. Is he reading cognitive science? No. He has 50 years of experience as a salesman who doesnt care who he is selling to, Lakoff says. On this account, Trump uses similar methods in his QVC-style pitch of steaks and vodka as when he talks about his plan to stop ISIS.

Gop Governor: Jan 6 Should Disqualify Trump From Holding Office
Gov. Asa Hutchinson reiterated on Sunday that he preferred a different GOP presidential candidate in 2024 who was not former President Trump, telling ABCs This Week that Jan. 6 should disqualify Trump from holding office again.
I do not believe that Donald Trump should be the next president of the United States, Hutchinson said. I think hes had his opportunity there. I think Jan. 6 really disqualifies him for the future.
Hutchinson went further, saying hed do everything in his power to make sure that there is an alternative GOP nominee for the 2024 presidential race.
I want to see everything I can do to make sure there is the alternative, and that Donald Trump is not the not the nominee of the party. Thats the first thing. And lets figure out how to do that, Hutchinson said.
But Hutchinson also acknowledged that Trump is polling well and still considered to be the front-runner for the partys nomination.
I think you have to start him out as the front-runner simply because hes polling that well. Hes the former president, Hutchinson said.
The Arkansas governor, who wont confirm if he is running for president in 2024 himself, also said Trumps campaign so far has been relatively quiet despite chaos that has surrounded Trump in the past, which could give other candidates a chance.
