Newton went 4-7 for 49 yards , while Jones went 13-19 for 87 yards . Running back Rhamondre Stevenson provided the bulk of the teams offense, rushing 10 times for 127 yards and two touchdowns.
When asked how Newton has progressed in Year 2 under offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick had generally positive things to say after the game.

On the other side, the Eagles are coming off a 24-16 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in their first preseason game. Quarterbacks Jalen Hurts and Joe Flacco both played in the game. Hurts went 3-7 for 54 yards, and Flacco finished his day completing 10 of 17 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown. Philadelphia had 236 yards through the air and just 52 yards on the ground, though, so the offense will have to find the running game at some point.

New England Patriots Vs Philadelphia Eagles: What To Watch For
Its never a good thing to get demolished by a team in your conference. But it certainly isnt the end of the world when you leave that demolishing with an 8-1 record.
The Patriots might take another loss or two this season simply because their offense isnt that productive. Bill Belichick has coached a defense-first team this year, and for the most part, it has worked out. Even after the loss to the Ravens last week, New England is still number one in Defensive DVOA. If its season ends at 13-3 or 12-4, it will still be considered a Super Bowl contender heading into the postseason.
New England isnt perfect. Its run defense has been weak despite the overall dominance of the unit. We saw this against Baltimore, but Nick Chubb ran for 131 against them and Frank Gore went for 109, so it isnt a one-week issue.
Tom Brady has also been playing behind a particularly bad offensive line. Brady doesnt take a lot of sacks or throw a lot of picks, so it isnt as obvious as on other teams. A lot of the problem comes down to bad luck, but regardless of the reason, Brady has often been under siege.
On defense, Philadelphia just doesnt look dominant enough to make up for this anemic passing game. There are great players like Fletcher Cox, but an improving pass rush has been undermined by dumb mistakes, particularly in the secondary and from some particularly weak linebackers.

Why The Eagles Can Cover
The Eagles made significant changes in the offseason, sending Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts and hiring Nick Sirianni as head coach. Quarterback Jalen Hurts is expected to open the season as Philadelphias starting quarterback and provides big-play ability every time he touches the ball. Hurts started the final four games last season, completing 51.9 percent of his throws for 6.9 yards per attempt. He also proved to be lethal with his legs, rushing for 272 yards and three scores on the ground during that span. Hurts figures to get playing time on Thursday night while he continues to implement Siriannis new offensive scheme.
Veteran quarterback Joe Flacco is also expected to get his shot to impress on Thursday against the Patriots. Last week against the Steelers, Flacco completed 10-of-17 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown. A former Super Bowl MVP, Flacco knows how to decipher defensive schemes, which could help Philadelphia secure the victory on its home turf.
