CLEVELAND, Ohio The Browns are now on a three-game losing streak as they were blown out at home by rookie quarterback Bailey Zappe and the Patriots, 38-15, on Sunday.
Zappe threw for 309 yards and two touchdowns in just his second start. The Patriots defense sacked Browns quarterback Jacoby Brissett four times and forced four turnovers.
The Browns run game was shut down for the first time all season as they gained just 70 yards on 18 carries.
Here is how social media reacted during Sundays game.
Browns Left The Game Banged Up
Offensive guard Wyatt Teller leaving the game in the first quarter was the most glaring injury the Browns faced on the day and the only one that Stefanski mentioned during his post-game press conference.
However, Myles Garretts shoulder is still not right after his car accident, as it has been evident on film and during live viewings against the Los Angeles Chargers and the Patriots. Garrett, however, continues to tough it out, giving his all for this team and still coming away with two sacks.
Right tackle Jack Conklin also came out of the game late, but that may have been more of a precautionary tale as he looked slightly limp. Conklin more than likely could have kept playing, but with the score the way it was, the Browns played it safe to save him for another week.
With the Baltimore Ravens up next, the Browns do not look to be in poor shape with injuries, but could certainly be healthier.
The New England Patriots Defense Does Enough
The New England Patriots defense picked up another two interceptions and the opportunistic offense took advantage of the second and put the ball into the end zone.

Job one was to stop Clevelands terrific running back Nick Chubb. Chubb is too good to be stopped completely. Hes averaging 118 yards per game. But they held him to a measly 56 yards. Job one was accomplished.
If you can just limit his production youre doing the job as a defense and have a chance to beat the Browns. The Pats defense did so for about three quarters before Chubbs talent began to take its toll. No surprise there.
An aggressive defensive approach, how about that, was just what the doctor ordered for New England as they drilled old friend Jacoby Brissett relentlessly.
In the final analysis, absent a desperation fourth-down pass completion that ultimately produced a touchdown for Cleveland, it was enough because the offense is finally starting to show the capability they were expected to have earlier.
On special teams, the Patriots botched an on-side kick with six minutes left that almost cost the team the game. Brendan Schooler, take a bow for that flub up. Luckily, the review bailed the Patriots out of a possible game-altering miscue.

- And finally, another congrats is in order for Bill Belichick, notching his 324th career win as a head coach. Hell be in sole possession of second all-time with a win next Monday night against the Chicago Bears at home, which is a very winnable game. He should surpass Don Shula within the next three seasons, barring some kind of disaster, and once that happens Im not sure another head coach will ever be able to surpass that. Andy Reid is the only active coach within shouting distance, and Reid is almost 100 wins behind Belichick. Never forget how lucky we are.
New England Patriots Offense Under Bailey Zappe Is Rolling
As noted, Zappe is running the offense like an old pro. He threw for 24 out of 34 , for 309 yards, with two touchdowns and critically important, no picks.
Hes got veteran poise, accurate throwing, great escapability, and obviously total command of this offense. Two games dont make a season make, but now after three, Zappe has proven hes the number one guy where it counts, on the field.

Wins dont lie and good performances dont either. Zappe is doing both. Before his injury, Mac Jones wasnt. Is it a tough call, possibly? But the NFL is all about one thing, and thats Ws. You ride the winning horse and that guy right now is Baliey Zappe.
Zappes acumen and a good running game and a decent receiving corps, and youve got a chance to do some good things. And now, with Zappe at the helm, the tight ends are actually doing something with six catches today.
The offense was thought in this space to be the better unit before the season started. It wasnt for the first five games. The defense carried the team and now the offense is starting to hold up its end of the bargain.
Who knows, its going to be interesting to see. But one thing is certain, Zappe has helped turn the offense and the season around and to change things at this point could be very risky business.

Were Patriots Right About Former Star Cb Jc Jackson
Now, with Jones waiting in the wings to come back in the likely near future, Patriot fans have to be optimistic about where there season stands, especially after the 1-3 start.
If the defense can maintain the level they’ve shown over the last two weeks, with Jones back in the fold this New England team is that much more dangerous.

New England Patriots Zap Cleveland Browns To Even Record At 3
The New England Patriots swept aside the Cleveland Browns 38-15 as predicted in this space using the time-worn formula of taking away the oppositions biggest strength and winning the turnover battle big-tie with four.
In the process, rookie quarterback Bailey Zappe showed that he controls the offense and frankly should control the quarterback position of the Patriots, with or without a healthy Mac Jones. Theres really no controversy here. Zappe is on a roll and he should start.
Zappe did what he needed to do to take out Cleveland and even the Patriots record. No offense to Mac, but Zappe has proven he deserves the top spot, rookie or no rookie. Hes taken control of the new offense and turned it into a strength rather than the early liability the unit was in the first four games. He looks like hes run it for five years.
The unit still has a long way to go and the playcalling is still lacking and too vanilla with far too little deception, but Zappe is doing what he needs to do. Hes not making mistakes and hes throwing touchdown passes rather than interceptions. Do those two things, and you have a chance to win any game.
Yet, unlike earlier in the season against Pittsburgh, the offense was unable to sustain a drive and keep the ball out of Clevelands hands. So, theres still lots of work to do before the offense is anywhere near a finished product.

Things Get Especially Interesting Late
After the Patriots made it 24-6 it looked like they might run away with it, but as has been the case with the Browns all season long they made things interesting in the fourth quarter. The Patriots had their chances to put it away again, even after Cleveland made it 24-9, but a missed field goal by Nick Folk led to an 8-play, 75-yard touchdown drive by the Browns that closed the score to 24-15 after a missed two-point attempt.
The Browns would then attempt an onside kick that was initially ruled as a recovery for Cleveland, but upon further review the call was overturned and the ball given to New England. The Patriots were unable to pick up a first down, punting the ball back to the Browns with under five minutes to go and that’s when special teams came through, with Brendan Schooler recovering a muffed punt deep inside Cleveland territory.
Tyquan Thornton took an end around to the house on the next play for his second touchdown of the game to close it out.

Why Bet The Browns:
The running game of the Browns is set to be the only offensive constant in this contest given the quarterback issues on both sides. Cleveland has averaged 192.4 rushing yards per game this season, despite everyone in the building knowing they are looking to run the ball each game. They should be able to keep moving the ball on the ground here en route to a win.
Mills Interception Henry Td Ices It
The Browns costly mistakes continued into the second half, with Brissett throwing his second interception of the game, this time to Jalen Mills. Down by 11, Cleveland’s margin for error was quickly deteriorating and Brissett’s second-down throw was well off the mark thanks to pass rush pressure from Ja’Whaun Bentley, giving Mills an easy takeaway.
The offense would respond this time with a touchdown score when it looked like they might hit another stop sign just outside the 20-yard line. On 3rd-and-1, Patriots offensive coaches stayed aggressive, using play action for Zappe to find Hunter Henry for a 31-yard touchdown that made it 24-6.

The Cleveland Browns were the latest team to get Zapped by the New England Patriots and rookie quarterback Bailey Zappe, who now owns a 2-0 record as a starter to begin his NFL career.
The Patriots beat the Browns 38-15 in Cleveland due to a highly efficient performance from Zappe and a dominant effort from New Englands defense.
Offensive spotlight: Zappe went 24-of-34 for 309 yards with two touchdowns and zero interceptions. Based on PFF’s first review, he got rid of the ball at an average 2.61-second clip. He didnt make any big-time throws but also wasnt marked with any turnover-worthy plays. The Patriots made effective use of play action, as Zappe went 6-of-7 for 144 yards and a touchdown with a play fake. Zappe was also penalized for delay of game and intentional grounding, so it wasnt all positives from the rookie, but it was still an impressive display in just his second career start.
Defensive spotlight: Browns edge defender Myles Garrett was battling through injuries during the game but finished with two sacks, including a strip sack, and three hurries. He finished the game with a game-high 24-percent pass-rush win rate.

“We’ll work out what we can do with it in the near future,” Stefanski said, via Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal. I believe he isá in the meeting rooms with our guys and it’s lá with the guys now, what é It’s great for him and for us to have him back with his teammates. “As you know, we put a huge premium on trying to win that turnover battle week in and week out. We have to take care of the rock on the offensive side. We have to take it away on the defensive side. We just didn’t do either. We had a giveaway on punt team, as well. You are not going to win games with that type of turnover margin, as everybody knows. Jacoby understands you have to take care of the ball, and it is as simple as that.”
