What Can You Do About This

Jeep Patriot Review | 2007-2017

Thus far, weve had a rundown of all the major Jeep Patriot problems that you should know. But now, you might be wondering whats next. Maybe youre an owner of an old Jeep Patriot. Or, you might be in the market to buy one. In that case, these faults and issues should certainly be noted whenever you have the chance to inspect them in person. If you own a Patriot, then be extra attentive to any of the symptoms that we mentioned earlier. Things like the gearbox slipping, or engine stalling.

Perhaps you noticed some moisture or leaking in your Patriot. In that case, do consider or Jeep dealer. Inquire, and have it checked out if its serious. Remember that the costs are nothing when compared to your safety. Based on the comments left on CarComplaints.com, some of the common issues have rightfully scared the owners of these cars. The car might stall or struggle to get up to speed while youre driving. The suspension woes too can be very hazardous to you.

Those ball joints ultimately help to moderate the way the car sits on the ground and can affect how itll steer. A few owners noted that their Patriots can swerve left or right even when theyre holding the wheel straight. Those leaks, while it might seem like a discomfort, can be problematic. The water can leak into the electrical systems or electronics. Or, the leaking itself might trickle all the way into the underbody of the car. This can start corroding key structural components from the inside.

Engine Cutting Off While Turning

Honestly, this problems main reason could be the same as the last one mentioned above. However, it could also be completely different. After a while of usage, the engine of this vehicle tends to just completely die at times.

This mostly happens when the vehicle is turning. However, it can also happen while just driving normally. In either of the cases, this means losing accelerative control over the vehicle while driving, which can be extremely dangerous.

Worst Year: 2014 Jeep Compass

While nothing major affected the 2014 Jeep Compass, the model had many small yet annoying problems surrounding it. The model had various design flaws, which allowed water to leak into the interior and generate air noise around doors.

The brakes were noisy, and the electronic throttle control was extremely faulty. The headlights were not bright enough, and the license plate lighting was also not working properly.

These issues would combine to make an unbearable experience for owners, which is why I am placing this model in 4th place.

Are Jeep Patriots Good Cars

Before we talk about Jeep Patriot problems, we should understand more about why it became popular. Why is it that even four years after it ended production, some people still speak highly of it? The main reasons for this were its cost, and what you get for the money. It was a Jeep, after all, and one that was priced accessibly for consumers. Plus, getting insurance on it was quite cheap, too. Yet, youre still getting the full Jeep experience, with plenty of practicality, and .

There was plenty of luggage and cargo space, so the Patriot made a great family vehicle. Although not all models had 4WD, it was good enough for lighter use. However, its popularity also exposed some flaws in its inherent design. For one, Jeep made severe cost-cutting measures to keep the price low. So much so, that technology and creature comforts were basic at most. This is despite the fact that similarly priced crossovers and mini-SUVs had better kits installed. Built quality was lacking, too.

Are Jeeps Good On Gas

2008 Jeep Patriot Limited 2.4 petrol manual 4x4 SUV

Well, it depends on what Jeep youre thinking about. Their compact and more urban-focused crossover SUVs, like the Compass and Renegade, are very fuel-efficient for their class. You can often expect anywhere between low-20s to low-30s MPG, which isnt too bad given the competition. Jeep is also working on hybrids, so that might be able to elevate the fuel economy figures even higher. However, Jeeps larger vehicles, or those carrying powerful engines, arent nearly as good with gas. The Grand Cherokee and Wrangler are good examples of this, as they both score below par when it comes to fuel consumption. It doesnt help that the Wrangler isnt a particularly aerodynamic shape.

Worst Year: 2014 Jeep Patriot

Coming up on number three, right after its successor, is the 2014 model of the Jeep Patriot.

This model comes after the 2015 model in this list because it did not have the major problem of water leakage into the vehicles interior, as widespread as the 2015 model did.

However, that does not save this model because this model had more complaints overall regarding other issues. In terms of the body and paint issues, the aforementioned interior water leakage problem was present to some extent.

Other than that, some users complained that the vehicles doors were out of alignment. There were also issues regarding the engine and the vehicles electrical components.

What Are The Biggest Selling Points Of The Jeep Patriot

The Patriot is a compact crossover SUV, offering five doors to ensure you can get the most out of your car. The Patriot is the second cheapest model in Jeeps lineup, and as of 2017, you can be in the drivers seat for under $18,000. Not only is this model affordable off the lot, but it is also one of the cheapest cars to insure year after year. This vehicles efficiency is also quite impressive, giving you over 30 miles per gallon on the highway. That means you can drive over 400 highway miles before stopping for fuel.

We all know Jeeps reputation for being a versatile and rugged brand of vehicles, and the Patriot is no different. Whether you are heading across the country on long stretches of highway or through the backwood roads to get to your favorite hiking spots, you can be sure that the Patriot can do the job.

Another big selling point is for those who live in areas where it snows over the winter months. With the Jeep Patriots ability to switch between front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, we can maximize the ease and efficiency of driving. Fuel efficiency is undoubtedly better when driving in front-wheel drive, but for the days with a thick sheet of snow or ice on the ground, the Patriot can conquer it with ease.

Worst Year: 2015 Jeep Patriot

Taking second place on this list is the 2015 model of the Jeep Patriot. This model was placed right after the 2008 model because although it did not have as many problems as the 2008 model, the problems there were quite severe.

The main problem faced by this model was its issues with the body and paint of the vehicle. Specifically, the problem was the sealing of the vehicle. There were widespread reports of water leaking into the vehicles interior due to rain.

This damaged the interior of the vehicle and caused a lot of noise, even without rain, when driving at high speeds.

The main reason I think caused this was that there was some mismanagement when it came to the design sizes of the vehicle, which were not caught until it was too late.

The Only Jeep You Should Buy

Coming on top of this Worst Years list is the second model, right after this vehicles debut. After garnering a lot of positive feedback from the 2007 model, Jeep seems to have gone lax and left a lot more slide with the 2008 model of the Jeep Patriot.

This is evident from the myriad of problems that this vehicle faced. This model is the one that faces the most number of complaints out of the few models that were released for this vehicle.

I honestly cannot be more disappointed in a vehicle than I am with this. With the lack of variants or trims for this vehicle, the focus was entirely on the one available vehicle, and it did not lead to a good impression when the problems started to show up.

These problems included windshields and windows, body and paint, fuel system, transmission, suspension, engine, and even electrical problems.

Though, the Mirages presence on the organizations worst used car list shouldnt come as too much of a surprise. The organization gave the used Mitsubishi Mirage a 5.3 overall score. The good news is that you dont have to buy the 2019 Mitsubishi Mirage. As a matter of fact, there are several used cars that make for even better options. Among them are well-known models like the Honda Fit, Chevrolet Sonic, and even the Hyundai Accent, U.S. News reports. And if none of those models strike your fancy? Best Year: 2010 Jeep Patriot

Lastly, the 2010 model of the Jeep Patriot will be making this list.

This model comes last place in this list because there is nothing particularly interesting about this model other than the fact that it fixed a lot of the major problems introduced in its two predecessor models, the 2008 and 2009 models of the Jeep Patriot.

I say this because this model had a significantly lower number of complaints compared to those two. Other than that, this model had a relatively nice fuel economy, which is rare among the Jeep Patriot models.

Safety features like anti-lock disk brakes, whiplash-reducing head restraints, and traction control were made standard in this model.

There could be many reasons why your Jeep Compass is running loud. For the sake of this question, I will be answering concerning the engine as even though other parts can get noisy, they arent necessarily loud.

Your engine could be abnormally loud due to bad and dirty Spark plugs, malfunctioning oxygen sensors, or simply due to a fault in the engine itself.

Its not the most reliable used SUV out there, and owners have reported plenty of problems with it to the NHTSA. Not to mention, Consumer Reports gave it a one out of five owner satisfaction rating, which is pretty dismal.

Fortunately, there are better options out there. Take, for example, the 2013 Honda CR-V. While U.S. News gave the used Jeep Patriot a 6.3 overall rating, the organization gave the used Honda CR-V an 8.5 overall rating, making it one of the best used cars you could pick over the used Jeep Patriot.

Best Year: 2013 Jeep Patriot

Coming on number three on this list is the 2013 model of the Jeep Patriot. This model is an interesting one because this came in three separate trims.

This model had the sport, latitude, and limited edition trims available. The limited variant of this model comes with rear disk brakes as well.

Another optional safety feature with this model throughout all the other variants is the front side airbags. These, plus the standard airbags that come with every variant, make the unfortunate accident situations quite safe.

This model is not higher on this list because the legroom for the back seats is not good. You might find yourself feeling uncomfortable on long trips.

Water Leaking Into The Vehicles Interior

This is a problem that has been present from the beginning when it comes to this vehicle. The problem was most likely related to engineering oversight, so the windshield and sunroof seals do not work very well.

Other than that, the interior is made of quite poor material, which is why this problem can cause major damage to the interior in a very short amount of time.
