When you buy a new vehicle, the last thing you want to be doing is spending a bunch of money right off the bat on maintenance and issues. The professionals at Kelley Blue Book put together a list of the vehicles that cost drivers the least amount of money in maintenance and repairs during the first 5 years of ownership. The 2015 Jeep Patriot took first place in the SUV/Crossover class! Read on to learn more.
What Makes The 2015 Jeep Patriot A Great Buy
There is a lot to love about the 2015 Patriot, but ones of the key factors that makes it a great buy is that there is a real focus on value inside and outside. The affordable front-wheel drive Sport trim comes in at under $18,000 MSRP, and that makes it one of the least expensive sport utility vehicles on the market. To go along with the low depreciation rate, the 2015 Jeep Patriot has a great resale value. When you buy a Jeep, you can rest assured that you are choosing a great value.
Other aspects about the 2015 Jeep Patriot that we love include: the boxy, traditional shape that harkens back to the original Jeep vehicles, the optional trail rated capability, the optional four-wheel drive, and the endearing and lifelong community that makes up Jeep owners across the world. When you buy a Jeep, you are not only choosing a vehicle that has great resale value, but you are becoming a part of a brand that is loved and recognized worldwide.
Used 2015 Jeep Patriot Pricing
The 2015 Jeep Patriot has an alluring Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price starting under $17,500. That makes the Patriot the least expensive new SUV, but youll have to compromise on creature comforts such as power windows and air conditioning. Better-equipped versions run in the $20,000 range, and a top-line Limited with options can top $31,000. At these prices, most models of the Patriot still undercut the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Ford Escape and Subaru Forester, but all of those rivals are newer and generally more appealing. Still, theres no denying that the Patriot is an inexpensive SUV to buy and own, and its just coming off a win for the Kelley Blue Book 5-Year Cost to Own Award in the Compact SUV/Crossover category. Be sure to check the KBB.com Fair Purchase Price to see what others in your area are paying for their new Jeep Patriot. Long-term residual value is another aspect in which the 2015 Patriot lags competitors.

Kbb Vehicle Review And Rating Methodology
Our Expert Ratings come from hours of both driving and number crunching to make sure that you choose the best car for you. We comprehensively experience and analyze every new SUV, car, truck, or minivan for sale in the U.S. and compare it to its competitors. When all that dust settles, we have our ratings.
We require new ratings every time an all-new vehicle or a new generation of an existing vehicle comes out. Additionally, we reassess those ratings when a new-generation vehicle receives a mid-cycle refresh basically, sprucing up a car in the middle of its product cycle with a minor facelift, often with updates to features and technology.
Rather than pulling random numbers out of the air or off some meaningless checklist, KBBs editors rank a vehicle to where it belongs in its class. Before any car earns its KBB rating, it must prove itself to be better than the other cars its competing against as it tries to get you to spend your money buying or leasing.
Our editors drive and live with a given vehicle. We ask all the right questions about the interior, the exterior, the engine and powertrain, the ride and handling, the features, the comfort, and of course, about the price. Does it serve the purpose for which it was built?
We take each vehicle we test through the mundane parking, lane-changing, backing up, cargo space and loading as well as the essential acceleration, braking, handling, interior quiet and comfort, build quality, materials quality, reliability.

Driving The Used 2015 Jeep Patriot
Jeeps have long been regarded more for their off-road capability than on-road comfort. Most models of the Patriot, though, dont stand out in either setting. While its true you can get a Patriot that is Trail-Rated to get through mud, snow and up to 19 inches of water, one must option up to the Freedom Drive II package in order to do so. On the asphalt where most Patriots will roam, Jeeps least expensive SUV is simply outclassed by newer rivals that offer better performance, handling and ride quality. Neither of the Patriots 4-cylinder engines feels very strong, and the CVT transmission does more for fuel economy than it does for performance, although the 6-speed automatic helps improve the latter. Highway ride and handling are okay, as long as you dont compare the Patriot to a more refined small SUV of which there are plenty.

The Most Affordable New Jeep Ever
Kelley Blue Book recently awarded the 2015 Jeep Patriot with the 5-Year Cost to Own Award. The 2015 model is the third Patriot in a row to earn the accolade.
Not only does the Patriot have a lower starting MSRP than other Jeep models, it also has a low cost of ownership, making it the most affordable vehicle in its segment. Kelley Blue Book also named the 2014 Jeep Patriot number one on the list of the 10 Most Affordable SUVs.
Consumer Guide Automotives 10 Coolest Cars Under $18,000 award was also given to the Jeep Patriot in 2013. With recognition in the low-cost category nearly every year that it has been available on the market, the Jeep Patriot is without a doubt one of the most affordable crossover SUVs ever made.
With a starting MSRP of only $16,795, the Patriot truly is Jeeps most affordable SUVs. Competitors like the Nissan Rogue and Kia Sportage both have starting MSRPs significantly higher than that of the Patriot. The Rogue starts at $20,150, while the Sportage cant be purchased for less than $21,900.
The initial cost to own the Patriot is obviously less than the competition, and thanks to Kelley Blue Books 5-Year Cost to Own Award, it is also obvious that the Patriot has the best overall value down the road.

How Do They Calculate Cost To Own Ratings
Taking into consideration a variety of factors, the professionals at KBB are able to estimate the projected cost of owning a vehicle for 5 years. The factors that contribute to the calculations include fuel, insurance, repairs, maintenance, financing, state fees, and depreciation. The most important factor in the calculation is depreciation. Different vehicles depreciate at different rates, and it just so happens that the Jeep brand vehicles have some of the lowest depreciation rates on the road today.
